Jeremia 47
1 Het woord des HEEREN, dat tot den profeet Jeremia geschiedde, tegen de Filistijnen; eer dat Farao Gaza sloeg.
The word of Jehovah which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh had smitten Gaza.
2 Zo zegt de HEERE: Ziet, wateren komen op van het noorden, en zullen worden tot een overlopende beek, en overlopen het land en de volheid van hetzelve, de stad en die daarin wonen; en de mensen zullen schreeuwen, en al de inwoners des lands zullen huilen;
Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, waters rise up out of the North, And they shall become an overflowing torrent, And shall overflow the land, and all that is therein, —The city, and them that dwell therein; And the men shall cry aloud, And all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
3 Vanwege het geluid van het geklater der hoeven zijner sterke paarden, vanwege het geraas zijner wagenen, en het bulderen zijner raderen; de vaders zien niet om naar de kinderen, vanwege de slappigheid der handen;
At the noise of the stamping of the horses, At the rattling of his chariots, And at the rumbling of his wheels, Fathers look not back for their children, For feebleness of hands,
4 Vanwege den dag, die er komt om alle Filistijnen te verstoren, om Tyrus en Sidon allen overgeblevenen helper af te snijden; want de HEERE zal de Filistijnen, het overblijfsel des eilands van Kafthor, verstoren.
Because of the day which cometh, To lay waste all the Philistines, To cut off from Tyre and from Sidon Every helper that remaineth. For Jehovah will lay waste the Philistines, The remnant of the country of Caphtor.
5 Kaalheid is op Gaza gekomen; Askelon is uitgeroeid, met het overblijfsel huns dals; hoe lang zult gij uzelven insnijdingen maken?
Baldness is come upon Gaza, Askelon is in ruins, And the remnant of their valley! How long wilt thou cut thyself?
6 O wee, gij zwaard des HEEREN! Hoe lang zult gij niet stil houden? Vaar in uw schede, rust en wees stil!
Ah! sword of Jehovah, How long ere thou wilt be quiet? Retire into thy scabbard, Rest, and be still!
7 Hoe zoudt gij stil houden? De HEERE heeft toch aan het zwaard bevel gegeven; tegen Askelon en tegen de zeehaven, aldaar heeft Hij het besteld.
But how canst thou be at rest, Since Jehovah hath given thee a charge against Askelon, And against the coast of the sea? There hath he appointed it.
