Jeremia 19
1 Zo zegt de HEERE: Ga henen en koop een pottenbakkerskruik, en neem tot u van de oudsten des volks, en van de oudsten der priesteren.
Yahweh said this, “Go and purchase a potter's clay flask while you are with the elders of the people and the priests.
2 En ga uit naar het dal des zoons van Hinnom, dat voor de deur der Zonnepoort is, en roep aldaar uit de woorden, die Ik tot u spreken zal;
Then go out to the Valley of Ben Hinnom at the entry of the Broken Pottery Gate, and there proclaim the words that I will tell you.
3 En zeg: Hoort des HEEREN woord, gij koningen van Juda en inwoners van Jeruzalem! Alzo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels: Ziet, Ik zal een kwaad brengen over deze plaats, van hetwelk een ieder, die het hoort, zijn oren klinken zullen;
Say, 'Hear the word of Yahweh, kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, says this, “See, I am about to bring disaster on this place, and the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle.
4 Omdat zij Mij verlaten, en deze plaats vervreemd, en anderen goden daarin gerookt hebben die zij niet gekend hebben, zij, noch hun vaders, noch de koningen van Juda; en hebben deze plaats vervuld met bloed der onschuldigen.
I will do this because they have abandoned me and profaned this place. In this place they offer sacrifices to other gods that they did not know. They, their ancestors, and the kings of Judah have also filled this place with innocent blood.
5 Want zij hebben de hoogten van Baal gebouwd, om hun zonen met vuur te verbranden, aan Baal tot brandofferen; hetwelk Ik niet geboden, noch gesproken heb, noch in Mijn hart is opgekomen?
They built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to him—something that I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind.
6 Daarom, ziet, de dagen komen, spreekt de HEERE, dat deze plaats niet meer zal genoemd worden het Tofeth, of dal des zoons van Hinnom, maar Moorddal.
Therefore, see, the days are coming—this is Yahweh's declaration—when this place will no longer be called Topheth, the Valley of Ben Hinnom, for it will be the Valley of Slaughter.
7 Want Ik zal den raad van Juda en Jeruzalem in deze plaats verijdelen, en zal hen voor het aangezicht hunner vijanden doen vallen door het zwaard, en door de hand dergenen, die hun ziel zoeken; en Ik zal hun dode lichamen het gevogelte des hemels en het gedierte der aarde tot spijze geven.
In this place I will make the plans of Judah and Jerusalem useless. I will make them to fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hand of the ones seeking their lives. Then I will give their corpses as food to the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the earth.
8 En Ik zal deze stad zetten tot een ontzetting en tot een aanfluiting; al wie voorbij haar gaat, zal zich ontzetten en fluiten over al haar plagen.
Then I will make this city a ruin and the object of hissing, for everyone passing by it will shudder and hiss regarding all of its plagues.
9 En Ik zal hunlieden het vlees hunner zonen en het vlees hunner dochteren doen eten, en zij zullen eten, een iegelijk het vlees zijns naasten, in de belegering en in de benauwing, waarmede hen hun vijanden, en die hun ziel zoeken, benauwen zullen.
I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters; each man will consume the flesh of his neighbor in the siege and in the anguish brought on them by their enemies and the ones seeking their lives.”'
10 Dan zult gij de kruik verbreken voor de ogen der mannen, die met u gegaan zijn;
Then you will break the clay flask in the sight of the men who went with you.
11 En gij zult tot hen zeggen: Zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen: Alzo zal Ik dit volk en deze stad verbreken, gelijk als men een pottenbakkersvat verbreekt, dat niet weder geheeld kan worden; en zij zullen hen in Tofeth begraven, omdat er geen andere plaats zal zijn om te begraven.
You will say to them, 'Yahweh of hosts says this: I will do this same thing to this people and this city—this is Yahweh's declaration—just as Jeremiah shattered the clay flask so that it could not be repaired again. People will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no place left for any more dead.
12 Zo zal Ik deze plaats doen, spreekt de HEERE, en haar inwoners; en dat om deze stad te stellen als een Tofeth.
This is what I will do to this place and its inhabitants when I make this city like Topheth—this is Yahweh's declaration—
13 En de huizen van Jeruzalem en de huizen der koningen van Juda zullen, gelijk alle plaatsen van Tofeth, onrein worden, met al de huizen, op welker daken zij aan al het heir des hemels gerookt en aan vreemde goden drankofferen geofferd hebben.
so the houses of Jerusalem and of the kings of Judah will become like Topheth—all the houses on whose rooftops the unclean people worship all the stars of the heavens and pour out drink offerings to other gods.'”
14 Toen nu Jeremia van Tofeth kwam, waarhenen hem de HEERE gezonden had, om te profeteren, stond hij in het voorhof van des HEEREN huis, en zeide tot al het volk:
Then Jeremiah went from Topheth, where Yahweh had sent him to prophesy. He stood in the courtyard of Yahweh's house and he said to all the people,
15 Zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels: Ziet, Ik zal over deze stad, en over al haar steden, al het kwaad brengen, dat Ik over haar gesproken heb; omdat zij hun nek verhard hebben, om Mijn woorden niet te horen.
“Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, says this, 'See, I am about to bring to this city and to all of its towns all the disaster that I have proclaimed against it, since they stiffened their neck and refused to listen to my words.'”
