1 Samuël 17
1 En de Filistijnen verzamelden hun heir ten strijde, en verzamelden zich te Socho, dat in Juda is; en zij legerden zich tussen Socho en tussen Azeka, aan het einde van Dammim.
And they gathered [the] Philistines armies their for battle and they were gathered Socoh which [belongs] to Judah and they encamped between Socoh and between Azekah in Ephes Dammim.
2 Doch Saul en de mannen van Israel verzamelden zich, en legerden zich in het eikendal; en stelden de slagorde tegen de Filistijnen aan.
And Saul and [the] man of Israel they were gathered and they encamped in [the] valley of Elah and they deployed battle to meet [the] Philistines.
3 De Filistijnen nu stonden aan een berg aan gene, en de Israelieten stonden aan een berg aan deze zijde; en de vallei was tussen hen.
And [the] Philistines [were] standing to the mountain from this and Israel [were] standing to the mountain from this and the valley [was] between them.
4 Toen ging er een kampvechter uit, uit het leger der Filistijnen; zijn naam was Goliath, van Gath; zijn hoogte was zes ellen en een span.
And he came out [the] man of the champions from [the] camps of [the] Philistines [was] Goliath name his from Gath height his [was] six cubits and a span.
5 En hij had een koperen helm op zijn hoofd, en hij had een schubachtig pantsier aan; en het gewicht van het pantsier was vijf duizend sikkelen kopers;
And a helmet of bronze [was] on head his and body armor of scales he [was] clothed and [the] weight of the body armor [was] five thousand shekels bronze.
6 En een koperen scheenharnas boven zijn voeten, en een koperen schild tussen zijn schouders;
And leg armor of bronze [was] on feet his and a javelin of bronze [was] between shoulders his.
7 En de schacht zijner spies was als een weversboom, en het lemmer zijner spies was van zeshonderd sikkelen ijzers; en de schilddrager ging voor zijn aangezicht.
(And [the] wood of *Q(K)*) spear his [was] like a beam of weavers and [the] blade of spear his [was] six hundred shekels iron and [the] bearer of the body shield [was] walking before him.
8 Deze nu stond, en riep tot de slagorden van Israel, en zeide tot hen: Waarom zoudt gijlieden uittrekken, om de slagorde te stellen? Ben ik niet een Filistijn, en gijlieden knechten van Saul? Kiest een man onder u, die tot mij afkome.
And he stood and he called out to [the] battle lines of Israel and he said to them why? do you come out to deploy battle ¿ not [am] I the Philistine and [are] you? servants of Saul commission for yourselves a man so he may come down to me.
9 Indien hij tegen mij strijden en mij verslaan kan, zo zullen wij ulieden tot knechten zijn; maar indien ik hem overwin en hem sla, zo zult gij ons tot knechten zijn, en ons dienen.
If he will be able to fight with me and he will strike down me and we will become of you slaves and if I I will prevail to him and I will strike down him and you will become of us slaves and you will serve us.
10 Verder zeide de Filistijn: Ik heb heden de slagorden van Israel gehoond, zeggende: Geeft mij een man, dat wij te zamen strijden!
And he said the Philistine I I defy [the] battle lines of Israel the day this give to me a man so let us fight together.
11 Toen Saul en het ganse Israel deze woorden van den Filistijn hoorden, zo ontzetten zij zich, en vreesden zeer.
And he heard Saul and all Israel [the] words of the Philistine these and they were dismayed and they were afraid exceedingly.
12 David nu was de zoon van den Efrathischen man van Bethlehem-Juda, wiens naam was Isai, en die acht zonen had, en in de dagen van Saul was hij een man, oud, afgaande onder de mannen.
And David [was] a son of a man an Ephrathite this from Beth-lehem Judah and name his [was] Jesse and [belonged] to him eight sons and the man in [the] days of Saul he was old he had gone among men.
13 En de drie grootste zonen van Isai gingen heen; zij volgden Saul na in den krijg. De namen nu zijner drie zonen, die in den krijg gingen, waren: Eliab, de eerstgeborene, en zijn tweede Abinadab, en de derde Samma.
And they had gone [the] three [the] sons of Jesse old they had gone after Saul to battle and [the] name of - [the] three of sons his who they had gone in the battle [was] Eliab the firstborn and second his [was] Abinadab and the third [was] Shammah.
14 En David was de kleinste; en de drie grootsten waren Saul nagevolgd.
And David he [was] the young and three old they had gone after Saul.
15 Doch David ging henen, en kwam weder van Saul, om zijns vaders schapen te weiden te Bethlehem.
And David [was] going and [was] returning from with Saul to shepherd [the] flock of father his Beth-lehem.
16 De Filistijn nu trad toe, des morgens vroeg en des avonds. Alzo stelde hij zich daar veertig dagen lang.
And he drew near the Philistine rising early and [the] evening darkened and he took his stand forty day[s].
17 En Isai zeide tot zijn zoon David: Neem toch voor uw broeders een efa van dit geroost koren, en deze tien broden, en breng ze terloops in het leger tot uw broederen.
And he said Jesse to David son his take please to brothers your [the] ephah of roasted grain this and ten bread[s] this and bring [them] quickly the camp to brothers your.
18 Maar breng deze tien melkkazen aan de oversten over duizend; en gij zult uw broederen bezoeken, of het hun welga, en gij zult van hen pand medenemen.
And [the] ten [the] portions of milk these you will bring to [the] commander of the thousand and brothers your you will pay attention to welfare and pledge their you will take.
19 Saul nu, en zij, en alle mannen van Israel waren bij het eikendal met de Filistijnen strijdende.
And Saul and they and every man of Israel [are] in [the] valley of Elah fighting with [the] Philistines.
20 Toen maakte zich David des morgens vroeg op, en hij liet de schapen bij den hoeder, en hij nam het op, en ging henen, gelijk als Isai hem bevolen had; en hij kwam aan den wagenburg, als het heir in slagorde uittoog, en men ten strijde riep.
And he rose early David in the morning and he left the flock with a watchman and he lifted up and he went just as he had commanded him Jesse and he came the camp towards and the army which was going out to the battle line and they shouted a war cry in the battle.
21 En de Israelieten en Filistijnen stelden slagorde tegen slagorde.
And it deployed Israel and [the] Philistines battle line to meet battle line.
22 David nu liet de vaten van zich, onder de hand van den bewaarder der vaten, en hij liep ter slagorde; en hij kwam en vraagde zijn broederen naar hun welstand.
And he left David the baggage from with him on [the] hand of [the] keeper of the baggage and he ran the battle line and he came and he asked of brothers his to welfare.
23 Toen hij met hen sprak, ziet, zo kwam de kampvechter op; zijn naam was Goliath, de Filistijn van Gath, uit het heir der Filistijnen, en hij sprak achtereenvolgens die woorden; en David hoorde ze.
And he - [was] speaking with them and there! [the] man of the champions [was] coming up [was] Goliath the Philistine name his from Gath (from [the] battle lines of *Q(K)*) [the] Philistines and he spoke according to the words these and he heard David.
24 Doch alle mannen in Israel, als zij dien man zagen, zo vluchtten zij voor zijn aangezicht, en zij vreesden zeer.
And every man of Israel when saw they the man and they fled from before him and they were afraid exceedingly.
25 En de mannen Israels zeiden: Hebt gijlieden dien man wel gezien, die opgekomen is? Want hij is opgekomen, om Israel te honen; en het zal geschieden, dat de koning dien man, die hem slaat, met groten rijkdom verrijken zal, en hij zal hem zijn dochter geven, en hij zal zijns vaders huis vrijmaken in Israel.
And he said - [the] man of Israel ¿ have you seen the man who comes up this for to defy Israel [he is] coming up and it will be the man who he will strike down him he will make rich him the king - rich[es] great and daughter his he will give to him and [the] house of father his he will make free in Israel.
26 Toen zeide David tot de mannen, die bij hem stonden, zeggende: Wat zal men dien man doen, die dezen Filistijn slaat, en den smaad van Israel wendt? Want wie is deze onbesneden Filistijn, dat hij de slagorden van den levenden God zou honen?
And he said David to the men who were standing with him saying what? will it be done for the man who he will strike down the Philistine this and he will remove reproach from on Israel that who? [is] the Philistine uncircumcised this that he has defied [the] battle lines of God living.
27 Wederom zeide hem het volk achtervolgens dat woord, zeggende: Alzo zal men den man doen, die hem slaat.
And it said to him the people according to the manner this saying thus it will be done for the man who he will strike down him.
28 Als Eliab, zijn grootste broeder, hem tot die mannen hoorde spreken, zo ontstak de toorn van Eliab tegen David, en hij zeide: Waarom zijt gij nu afgekomen, en onder wien hebt gij de weinige schapen in de woestijn gelaten? Ik ken uw vermetelheid, en de boosheid uws harten wel; want gij zijt afgekomen, opdat gij den strijd zaagt.
And he heard Eliab brother his old when spoke he to the men and it burned [the] anger of Eliab on David and he said - why? this have you come down and with whom? have you left [the] fewness of the sheep those in the wilderness I I know arrogance your and [the] wickedness of heart your that so as to see the battle you have come down.
29 Toen zeide David: Wat heb ik nu gedaan? Is er geen oorzaak?
And he said David what? have I done now ¿ not a word [was] it.
30 En hij wendde zich af van dien naar een anderen toe, en hij zeide achtereenvolgens dat woord; en het volk gaf hem weder antwoord, achtervolgens de eerste woorden.
And he turned away from beside him to [the] front of another [person] and he said according to the manner this and they brought back him the people word according to the word the former.
31 Toen die woorden gehoord werden, die David gesproken had, en in de tegenwoordigheid van Saul verkondigd werden, zo liet hij hem halen.
And they were heard the words which he spoke David and people told before Saul and he sent for him.
32 En David zeide tot Saul: Aan geen mens ontvalle het hart, om zijnentwil. Uw knecht zal heengaan en hij zal met dezen Filistijn strijden.
And he said David to Saul may not it fall [the] heart of anyone on him servant your he will go and he will fight with the Philistine this.
33 Maar Saul zeide tot David: Gij zult niet kunnen heengaan tot dezen Filistijn, om met hem te strijden; want gij zijt een jongeling, en hij is een krijgsman van zijn jeugd af.
And he said Saul to David not you will be able to go against the Philistine this to fight with him for [are] a youth you and he [is] a man of war since youth his.
34 Toen zeide David tot Saul: Uw knecht weidde de schapen zijns vaders, en er kwam een leeuw en een beer, en nam een schaap van de kudde weg.
And he said David to Saul shepherding he was servant your for father his the flock and it came the lion and with the bear and it carried off a sheep from the flock.
35 En ik ging uit hem na, en ik sloeg hem, en redde het uit zijn mond; toen hij tegen mij opstond, zo vatte ik hem bij zijn baard, en sloeg hem, en doodde hem.
And I went out after it and I struck it and I rescued [it] from mouth its and it rose up on me and I took hold on beard its and I struck it and I killed it.
36 Uw knecht heeft zo den leeuw als den beer geslagen; alzo zal deze onbesneden Filistijn zijn, gelijk een van die, omdat hij de slagorden van den levenden God gehoond heeft.
Both the lion as well as the bear he has struck down servant your and he will be the Philistine uncircumcised this like one from them for he has defied [the] battle lines of God living.
37 Verder zeide David: De HEERE, Die mij van de hand des leeuws gered heeft, en uit de hand des beers, Die zal mij redden uit de hand van dezen Filistijn. Toen zeide Saul tot David: Ga heen, en de HEERE zij met u!
And he said David Yahweh who he delivered me from [the] hand of the lion and from [the] hand of the bear he he will deliver me from [the] hand of the Philistine this. And he said Saul to David go and Yahweh he will be with you.
38 En Saul kleedde David met zijn klederen, en zette een koperen helm op zijn hoofd, en kleedde hem met een pantsier.
And he clothed Saul David garments his and he put a helmet of bronze on head his and he clothed him body armor.
39 En David gordde zijn zwaard aan over zijn klederen, en wilde gaan; want hij had het nooit verzocht. Toen zeide David tot Saul: Ik kan in deze niet gaan, want ik heb het nooit verzocht; en David leide ze van zich.
And he girded David sword his over garments his and he fell short to walk for not he had put to [the] test and he said David to Saul not I will be able to walk in these [things] for not I have put to [the] test and he removed them David from on himself.
40 En hij nam zijn staf in zijn hand, en hij koos zich vijf gladde stenen uit de beek, en leide ze in de herderstas, die hij had, te weten in den zak, en zijn slinger was in zijn hand; alzo naderde hij tot den Filistijn.
And he took stick his in hand his and he chose for himself five smooth [ones] of stones - from the wadi and he put them in [the] bag of shepherds which [belonged] to him and in the pouch and sling his [was] in hand his and he drew near to the Philistine.
41 De Filistijn ging ook heen, gaande en naderende tot David, en zijn schilddrager ging voor zijn aangezicht.
And he came the Philistine coming and approaching to David and the man [the] bearer of the body shield [was] before him.
42 Toen de Filistijn opzag, en David zag, zo verachtte hij hem; want hij was een jongeling, roodachtig, mitsgaders schoon van aanzien.
And he looked the Philistine and he saw David and he despised him for he was a youth and red with handsome of appearance.
43 De Filistijn nu zeide tot David: Ben ik een hond, dat gij tot mij komt met stokken? En de Filistijn vloekte David bij zijn goden.
And he said the Philistine to David ¿ a dog [am] I that you [are] coming against me with sticks and he cursed the Philistine David by gods his.
44 Daarna zeide de Filistijn tot David: Kom tot mij, zo zal ik uw vlees aan de vogelen des hemels geven, en aan de dieren des velds.
And he said the Philistine to David come! to me so let me give flesh your to [the] bird[s] of the heavens and to [the] animal[s] of the field.
45 David daarentegen zeide tot den Filistijn: Gij komt tot mij met een zwaard, en met een spies, en met een schild; maar ik kom tot u in den Naam van den HEERE der heirscharen, den God der slagorden van Israel, Dien gij gehoond hebt.
And he said David to the Philistine you [are] coming against me with sword and with spear and with javelin and I [am] coming against you in [the] name of Yahweh of hosts [the] God of [the] battle lines of Israel whom you have defied.
46 Te dezen dage zal de HEERE u besluiten in mijn hand, en ik zal u slaan, en ik zal uw hoofd van u wegnemen, en ik zal de dode lichamen van der Filistijnen leger dezen dag aan de vogelen des hemels, en aan de beesten des velds geven; en de ganse aarde zal weten, dat Israel een God heeft.
The day this he will deliver up you Yahweh in hand my and I will strike down you and I will remove head your from on you and I will give [the] corpse[s] of [the] army of [the] Philistines the day this to [the] bird[s] of the heavens and to [the] animal[s] of the earth so they may know all the earth that there a God [belongs] to Israel.
47 En deze ganse vergadering zal weten, dat de HEERE niet door het zwaard, noch door de spies verlost; want de krijg is des HEEREN, Die zal ulieden in onze hand geven.
So they may know all the assembly this that not by sword and by spear he saves Yahweh for [belongs] to Yahweh the battle and he will give you in hand our.
48 En het geschiedde, toen de Filistijn zich opmaakte, en heenging, en David tegemoet naderde, zo haastte David, en liep naar de slagorde toe, den Filistijn tegemoet.
And it was that he arose the Philistine and he came and he drew near to meet David and he hurried David and he ran the battle line to meet the Philistine.
49 En David stak zijn hand in de tas, en hij nam een steen daaruit, en hij slingerde, en trof den Filistijn in zijn voorhoofd; zodat de steen zonk in zijn voorhoofd, en hij viel op zijn aangezicht ter aarde.
And he sent David hand his into the bag and he took from there a stone and he slung [it] and he struck the Philistine to forehead his and it sank the stone in forehead his and he fell on face his [the] ground towards.
50 Alzo overweldigde David den Filistijn met een slinger en met een steen; en hij versloeg den Filistijn, en doodde hem; doch David had geen zwaard in de hand.
And he was strong David more than the Philistine with the sling and with the stone and he struck down the Philistine and he killed him and [was] a sword there not in [the] hand of David.
51 Daarom liep David, en stond op den Filistijn, en nam zijn zwaard, en hij trok het uit zijn schede, en hij doodde hem, en hij hieuw hem het hoofd daarmede af. Toen de Filistijnen zagen, dat hun geweldigste dood was, zo vluchtten zij.
And he ran David and he stood to the Philistine and he took sword his and he drew out it from sheath its and he killed him and he cut off with it head his and they saw the Philistines that he had died mighty [man] their and they fled.
52 Toen maakten zich de mannen van Israel en van Juda op, en juichten, en vervolgden de Filistijnen, tot daar men komt aan de vallei, en tot aan de poorten van Ekron; en de verwonden der Filistijnen vielen op den weg van Saaraim, en tot aan Gath, en tot aan Ekron.
And they arose [the] men of Israel and Judah and they shouted a war cry and they pursued the Philistines until coming you [to] Gath and to [the] gates of Ekron and they fell [those] slain of [the] Philistines on [the] way of Shaaraim and to Gath and to Ekron.
53 Daarna keerden de kinderen Israels om, van het hittig najagen der Filistijnen, en zij beroofden hun legers.
And they returned [the] people of Israel from hotly pursuing after [the] Philistines and they plundered camps their.
54 Daarna nam David het hoofd van den Filistijn, en bracht het naar Jeruzalem; maar zijn wapenen leide hij in zijn tent.
And he took David [the] head of the Philistine and he brought it Jerusalem and weapons his he put in own tent his.
55 Toen Saul David zag uitgaan den Filistijn tegemoet, zeide hij tot Abner, den krijgsoverste: Wiens zoon is deze jongeling, Abner? En Abner zeide: Zo waarachtig als uw ziel leeft, o koning! ik weet het niet.
And just as saw Saul David going out to meet the Philistine he said to Abner [the] commander of the army son of whom? this [is] the youth O Abner and he said Abner [by] [the] life of self your O king if I knew.
56 De koning nu zeide: Vraag gij het, wiens zoon deze jongeling is.
And he said the king ask you son of whom? this [is] the youth.
57 Als David wederkeerde van het slaan des Filistijns, zo nam hem Abner, en hij bracht hem voor het aangezicht van Saul, en het hoofd van den Filistijn was in zijn hand.
And just as returned David from striking down the Philistine and he took him Abner and he brought him before Saul and [the] head of the Philistine [was] in hand his.
58 En Saul zeide tot hem: Wiens zoon zijt gij, jongeling? En David zeide: Ik ben een zoon van uw knecht Isai, den Bethlehemiet.
And he said to him Saul son of whom? [are] you O youth and he said David [the] son of servant your Jesse [the] Beth-lehemite.
