Psalmen 58
1 Voor muziekbegeleiding; "Verderf niet." Een puntdicht van David. Meent gij nu werkelijk recht te spreken, En met rechtvaardigheid de mensen te richten?
“To the chief musician Al-tashcheth, by David, a Michtham.” Do you indeed, who are dumb, speak righteously? do ye judge in uprightness, O ye sons of men?
2 Neen, in uw hart pleegt gij onrecht, En uw handen banen de weg voor geweld in het land.
Even in [your] heart ye work injustice: on the earth do ye weigh out the violence of your hands.
3 De schurken: ze zijn ontaard van hun moederschoot af; De leugenaars: sinds hun geboorte bedorven!
The wicked are estranged [from goodness] from the womb: those who speak lies go astray from their very birth.
4 Ze zijn venijnig als giftige adders; Ze stoppen hun oren als dove slangen,
They have poison like the poison of a serpent: [they are] like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;
5 Die niet luisteren naar de stem van bezweerders, En van bekwame belezers.
Which will not hearken to the voice of conjurers, yea, that of the wisest of all charmers.
6 O God, sla ze de tanden stuk in hun mond; Jahweh, ruk uit het gebit van dat broed!
O God, break out their teeth in their mouth: the jaw-teeth of the young lions tear thou out, O Lord.
7 Laat ze verdwijnen als wegzinkend water, Als gras langs de weg, dat verdort,
Let them melt away as water [which] runneth off: when each one bendeth [his bow to shoot] his arrows, let them be as if cut in pieces.
8 Als een slak, die zich oplost in slijm, Als een misdracht, die het zonlicht niet ziet;
As a snail which melteth, let him pass away; like the untimely birth of a woman which hath not seen the sun.
9 Voordat de doornen hun ketels verhitten: Onverbrand of verbrand, Hij vaagt ze weg.
Before your pots can feel the thorns, will he take them away with a whirlwind, both the green and the burning.
10 De rechtvaardige zal zich verheugen, Als hij die wraak mag aanschouwen, En met zijn voeten plassen in het bloed van die schurken. En de mensen zullen dan zeggen:
The righteous will rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he will bathe his steps in the blood of the wicked.
11 "Toch heeft het zijn nut, rechtvaardig te zijn; Toch is er een God, die recht doet op aarde!"
So that a man shall say, Verily fruit will come for the righteous: verily there is a God that judgeth on the earth.
