Psalmen 36
1 Voor muziekbegeleiding. Van David, den dienaar van Jahweh. De zonde fluistert den boze haar inblazingen toe. In het diepst van zijn hart; Geen vreze Gods Staat hem voor ogen.
[Wicked people continually desire to] sin. They consider [IDM] that they do not need to revere God.
2 Want ze heeft hem met blindheid geslagen, Zodat hij zijn misdaad kent noch haat.
Because they are very proud, they do not think that God will discover their sins and condemn them (OR, they do not think about their sins and hate themselves for it).
3 Het woord van zijn mond Is leugen en bedrog. Hij weigert, zich verstandig en goed te gedragen;
[Everything] that they say is deceitful and full of lies; they no longer do what is good and are no longer wise.
4 Zelfs op zijn sponde bedenkt hij nog slechtheid. Het verkeerde pad gaat hij op, En wendt zich niet af van het kwaad.
While they are lying on their beds, they plan to do things to harm [others]; they are determined to do things that are not good, and they never refuse [to do what is] evil.
5 Maar uw goedheid, o Jahweh, reikt tot de hemel, En tot aan de wolken uw trouw;
Yahweh, your faithful love for us reaches as high as the heavens, you faithfully [do what you have promised]; [it is as though your doing that] extends up to the clouds.
6 Uw gerechtigheid is als de bergen Gods, Als de onmetelijke oceaan uw gericht. Mensen en dieren helpt Gij, o Jahweh;
Your righteous behavior is [as permanent as] the highest mountains [MET], your acting justly [will continue as long as] the deepest oceans [exist]. You take care of people and you take care of animals.
7 Hoe heerlijk is uw genade, o God! Daarom zoeken de kinderen der mensen Hun toevlucht in de schaduw uwer vleugelen;
God, your faithful love for us is very precious. You protect us like birds protect their baby birds under their wings [MET].
8 Zij verzadigen zich met het vet van uw woning, Gij laaft ze aan uw stroom van geneugten.
You provide for us plenty of food from the abundant supply [IDM] that you have; your great blessings for us [flow] like a river.
9 Want bij U is de bron van het leven, In ùw licht aanschouwen wij licht.
You are the one who causes everything to live; your light is what enables us to see.
10 Blijf uw goedertierenheid tonen aan hen, die U vrezen, Uw gerechtigheid aan de oprechten van hart;
Continue to faithfully love those who have experienced a relationship with you, and bless those who act righteously/justly.
11 Laat geen trotse voet mij vertrappen, Geen goddeloze vuisten mij slaan.
Do not allow proud people [SYN] to attack me, or allow wicked people to chase me away.
12 Maar waar de zondaars vallen, Laat ze daar liggen, en nimmermeer opstaan.
Look where evil people have fallen on the ground, defeated; they were thrown down, and they will never rise again.
