Psalmen 29

1 Een psalm van David. Brengt Jahweh, zonen Gods, Brengt Jahweh glorie en lof.

“A psalm of David.” Ascribe unto the Lord, O ye sons of the mighty, ascribe unto the Lord glory and strength.

2 Brengt Jahweh de eer van zijn Naam; Huldigt Jahweh in heilige feestdos!

Ascribe unto the Lord the glory of his name; bow down to the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

3 De stem van Jahweh over de wateren! De God van majesteit, Jahweh, dondert over de onmetelijke plassen!

The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thundereth, the Lord—upon mighty waters.

4 De stem van Jahweh vol kracht, De stem van Jahweh vol glorie!

The voice of the Lord [resoundeth] with power; the voice of the Lord [resoundeth] with majesty.

5 De stem van Jahweh verbrijzelt de ceders, Jahweh slaat de ceders van de Libanon te pletter.

The voice of the Lord breaketh in pieces the cedars; yea, the Lord shivereth the cedars of Lebanon;

6 Als een kalf laat Hij de Libanon huppelen, De Sjirjon als het jong van een buffel.

And he maketh them skip like a calf; Lebanon and Siryon like young reems.

7 De stem van Jahweh braakt vurige flitsen; En in zijn paleis roept iedereen: Glorie!

The voice of the Lord heweth out flames of fire.

8 De stem van Jahweh laat de wildernis beven, Jahweh schokt de steppe van Kadesj;

The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; the Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.

9 De stem van Jahweh wringt eiken krom, En ontbladert de wouden.

The voice of the Lord causeth the hinds to start, and maketh bare forests: and in his temple every thing speaketh [of his] glory.

10 Jahweh zetelt op de orkaan, Jahweh troont er als Koning voor eeuwig!

The Lord sat [enthroned] at the flood: and the Lord will sit as King for ever.

11 Jahweh geeft kracht aan zijn volk; Jahweh zegent zijn volk met de vrede!

The Lord will give strength unto his people: the Lord will bless his people with peace.
