Psalmen 20

1 Voor muziekbegeleiding. Een psalm van David. Moge Jahweh op de dag van nood u verhoren, De naam van Jakobs God u beschermen,

For the Leader. A Psalm of David. The LORD answer thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob set thee up on high;

2 Uit het heiligdom u hulp verlenen, En uit Sion u bijstaan.

Send forth thy help from the sanctuary, and support thee out of Zion;

3 Hij gedenke al uw offergaven, En neme genadig uw brandoffers aan;

Receive the memorial of all thy meal-offerings, and accept the fat of thy burnt-sacrifice; (Selah)

4 Hij schenke u wat uw hart maar begeert, En doe al uw plannen gelukken.

Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.

5 Dan zullen wij om uw zegepraal juichen, In de Naam van onzen God de feestbanier heffen!

We will shout for joy in thy victory, and in the name of our God we will set up our standards; the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.

6 Nu reeds ben ik er zeker van, Dat Jahweh zijn Gezalfde de zegepraal schenkt, En Hem uit zijn heilige hemel verhoort Door de reddende kracht van zijn rechterhand.

Now know I that the LORD saveth His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the mighty acts of His saving right hand.

7 Anderen gaan trots op wagens en paarden, Wij op de Naam van Jahweh, onzen God;

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will make mention of the name of the LORD our God.

8 Maar zìj storten neer, en blijven liggen, Wij rijzen op en staan vast!

They are bowed down and fallen; but we are risen, and stand upright.

9 Jahweh, geef den Koning de zege, En verhoor nog heden ons smeekgebed!

Save, LORD; let the King answer us in the day that we call.
