Psalmen 148
1 Halleluja! Looft Jahweh in de hemel, Looft Hem in den hoge;
Praise Yahweh! Praise him, from up in heaven; praise him from way up in the sky!
2 Looft Hem al zijn engelen, Looft Hem heel zijn heir!
All you angels who belong to him, praise him! All you who are in the armies of heaven, praise him!
3 Looft Hem, zon en maan, Looft Hem allen, flonkerende sterren;
Sun and moon, [you also] praise him! You shining stars, you praise him!
4 Looft Hem hoogste gewesten, De wateren boven de hemel!
You highest heavens, praise him! And you waters that are high above the sky, praise him!
5 De Naam van Jahweh moeten ze loven, Want Hij gebood, en ze werden geschapen;
I want [all of] these to praise Yahweh [MTY] because by commanding [them to exist], he created them.
6 Hij wees hun een plaats voor altijd en eeuwig, Hij gaf hun een wet, die ze niet overtreden.
He determined the places where they should be [in the sky], and he commanded that they should be there forever. They cannot disobey that command!
7 Looft Jahweh op aarde: Monsters der zee en alle oceanen,
And everything on the earth, praise Yahweh! You [huge] sea monsters and [everything else that is] deep [in the ocean],
8 Vuur en hagel, sneeuw en ijzel, Stormwind, die zijn bevelen volbrengt!
and fire and hail, and snow and frost, and strong winds that obey what he commands, [I tell] all of you to praise Yahweh!
9 Alle bergen en heuvels, Alle vruchtbomen en ceders;
Hills and mountains, fruit trees and cedar [trees],
10 Alle beesten, wilde en tamme, Kruipende dieren en gevleugelde vogels!
all the wild animals and all [you] cattle, and the (reptiles/creatures that scurry across the ground), and [all] the birds, [I tell all of them to praise Yahweh]!
11 Alle koningen en volken der aarde, Alle vorsten en wereldbestuurders;
You kings on this earth and all the people [that you rule], you princes and all [other] rulers,
12 Jonge mannen en maagden, Grijsaards en kinderen!
you young men and young women, you old people and children, [everyone, praise Yahweh!]
13 De Naam van Jahweh moeten ze loven: Want zijn Naam is verheven; Zìjn glorie alleen Gaat hemel en aarde te boven!
I want them [all] to praise Yahweh [MTY] because he is greater than anyone else. His glory is greater than [anything on] the earth or [in] heaven.
14 Hij heeft de hoorn van zijn volk weer verhoogd, En de roem van al zijn getrouwen: Van Israëls zonen, Van het volk, van zijn vrienden! Halleluja!
He caused us, his people, to be strong in order that we, his people, we Israeli people (who are very precious to him/whom he loves very much), would praise him. So praise Yahweh!
