Psalmen 119
1 Gelukkig, die onberispelijk zijn in hun wandel, En leven volgens Jahweh’s wet;
ALEPH. Happy are they whose way is perfect, who walk in the law of the Lord.
2 Gelukkig, die op zijn vermaningen letten, Hem zoeken met geheel hun hart;
Happy are they who keep his testimonies, that seek him with all their heart.
3 Zij ook, die geen ongerechtigheid plegen, Maar blijven leven naar zijn woord.
They also commit no injustice; in his ways do they walk.
4 Gij zelf hebt uw bevelen gegeven, Opdat men ze trouw zou volbrengen;
Thou thyself hast commanded us thy precepts, that we might keep [them] diligently.
5 Ach, mocht mijn gedrag zo onwankelbaar zijn, Dat ik uw inzettingen trouw onderhield.
Oh that my ways were firmly directed to observe thy statutes!
6 Dan zal ik nooit beschaamd komen staan, Als ik het oog richt op al uw geboden;
Then would I not be made ashamed, while I look at all thy commandments.
7 Maar in oprechtheid des harten zal ik U danken, Als ik uw rechtvaardige voorschriften leer.
I will thank thee with uprightness of heart, when I learn thy righteous ordinances.
8 Ik houd mij vast aan uw bestel: Verlaat mij dan niet voor altoos!
Thy statutes will I observe: oh forsake me not too greatly.
9 Hoe kan een jongeman zijn reinheid bewaren? Door zich te houden aan uw woord!
BETH. Wherewithal shall a youth keep his way pure? by guarding it according to thy word.
10 Ik heb U met heel mijn hart gezocht, Laat mij nooit uw geboden verlaten;
With all my heart have I sought thee: oh let me not wander astray from thy commandments.
11 Ik bewaar uw bestel in mijn hart, Om nooit te zondigen tegen U.
In my heart have I treasured up thy saying, in order that I may not sin against thee.
12 Geprezen zijt Gij, o Jahweh, Leer mij uw inzettingen kennen;
Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes.
13 Dan zal ik met mijn lippen verbreiden Al de voorschriften van uw mond.
With my lips have I related all the ordinances of thy mouth.
14 Ik verheug mij over de weg, die uw vermaning mij wees, Meer dan over alle schatten;
On the way of thy testimonies have I been glad, as over all wealth.
15 Uw bevelen wil ik overwegen, En op uw paden blijven letten;
On thy precepts will I meditate, and direct my look unto thy paths.
16 Ik wil mij aan uw wet verkwikken, En nimmermeer uw woord vergeten!
In thy statutes will I seek my delight: I will not forget thy word.
17 Laat uw dienstknecht leven, En ik zal uw woord onderhouden;
GIMEL. Deal bountifully with thy servant: let me live, that I may observe thy word.
18 Neem de sluier van mijn ogen, Opdat ik de wonderen van uw wet aanschouwe.
Open thou my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
19 Al ben ik maar een zwerver op aarde, Verberg mij uw bevelen niet;
A stranger am I on the earth: hide not from me thy commandments.
20 Want mijn ziel wordt verteerd van verlangen Naar uw voorschriften, altijd door.
My soul is broken from longing for thy ordinances at all times.
21 Gij bedreigt de hoogmoedigen, Vervloekt, die uw geboden verlaat;
Thou hast rebuked the accursed proud, who go erringly astray from thy commandments.
22 Wend dan smaad en hoon van mij af, Want uw vermaningen neem ik ter harte.
Roll away from me reproach and contempt; for thy testimonies have I kept.
23 Al spannen ook vorsten tegen mij samen, Uw dienstknecht peinst over uw inzettingen na;
Although even princes should sit and speak against me, thy servant would still meditate on thy statutes.
24 Ja, uw bestel is mij een lust, En mijn berader.
Also thy testimonies are my delight, my counsellors.
25 Reeds ligt mijn ziel aan het stof gekluisterd: Wek mij ten leven naar uw woord.
DALETH. My soul cleaveth unto the dust: revive thou me according to thy word.
26 Mijn leven heb ik U open gelegd: Gij hebt mij gehoord, Leer mij thans uw inzettingen kennen;
My ways do I relate [to thee], and thou answerest me: teach me thy statutes.
27 Onderricht mij, hoe ik naar uw bevelen moet leven, En ik zal uw wonderen vermelden.
Cause me to understand the way of thy precepts, that I may meditate on thy wonders.
28 Mijn ziel kwijnt weg van ellende: Richt mij naar uw bestel weer op.
My soul droppeth away from grief: sustain me according to thy word.
29 Houd de weg der leugen ver van mij af, En schenk mij genadig uw wet;
The way of falsehood do thou remove from me, and grant me graciously thy law.
30 Ik heb de weg der waarheid gekozen, Uw voorschriften mij voor ogen gesteld.
The way of truth have I chosen: thy ordinances have I set [before me].
31 Ik klamp mij aan uw vermaningen vast, Maak mij niet te schande, o Jahweh;
I have adhered unto thy testimonies: O Lord, put me not to shame.
32 De weg uwer geboden zal ik bewandelen, Als Gij mijn hart maar verblijdt.
The way of thy commandments will I run; for thou wilt enlarge my heart.
33 Leer mij, Jahweh, naar uw inzettingen leven, Opdat ik ze ten einde toe onderhoud;
HE. Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes, and I shall keep it in all its windings.
34 Geef mij inzicht om uw wet te volbrengen, En met heel mijn hart te beleven;
Give me understanding, that I may keep thy law, and I will observe it with all [my] heart.
35 Laat mij het pad uwer geboden betreden, Want dat is mijn vreugd.
Guide me on the path of thy commandments; for therein do I find my delight.
36 Neig mijn hart naar uw vermaningen, En niet naar gewin;
Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to desire for gain.
37 Wend mijn ogen van de ijdelheid af, En laat mij leven naar uw woord.
Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity: on thy way do thou give me life.
38 Doe uw bestel aan uw dienstknecht gestand, Dat Gij beschikt hebt voor hen, die U vrezen;
Fulfill unto thy servant thy promise for those who are devoted to thy fear.
39 Wentel de smaad, die ik ducht, van mij weg, Want uw voorschriften blijven voortreffelijk.
Cause to pass away my disgrace of which I have dread; for thy ordinances are good.
40 Zie, ik hunker naar uw bevelen, Laat mij door uw gerechtigheid leven!
Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: through thy righteousness do thou give my life.
41 Moge uw genade mijn deel zijn, o Jahweh, En uw heil naar uw bestel;
VAV. And let thy kindness come unto me, O Lord, thy salvation, according to thy promise.
42 Dan zal ik mijn lasteraars te woord kunnen staan, Want ik vertrouw op uw woord;
Then shall I have a word to answer the one that reproacheth me; for I trust in thy word.
43 Neem het woord der waarheid niet geheel uit mijn mond, Want ik wacht uw voorschriften af.
And snatch not the word of truth out of my mouth too greatly; for I wait for thy ordinances.
44 Uw wet wil ik steeds onderhouden, Voor eeuwig en immer;
So shall I observe thy law continually for ever and ever.
45 Dan zal ik ongestoord kunnen leven, Omdat ik naar uw bevelen vraag.
And I will walk in an open space; for thy precepts have I sought.
46 Zelfs koningen zal ik van uw vermaningen spreken, En mij er nooit over schamen;
And I will speak of thy testimonies before kings, and will not be ashamed.
47 Ik zal mij aan uw geboden verkwikken, Die ik van harte bemin;
And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I love.
48 Tot U zal ik mijn handen verheffen, En uw inzettingen overwegen.
And so will I lift up my hands unto thy commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on thy statutes.
49 Gedenk het woord, tot uw dienstknecht gesproken, En waarop Gij mijn hoop hebt gesteld;
ZAYIN. Remember thy word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to wait.
50 Dit is mijn troost in mijn ellende, Dat uw bestel mij het leven behoudt.
This is my comfort in my affliction, that thy promise hath revived me.
51 Al bespotten de bozen mij nog zo vijandig, Toch wijk ik niet af van uw wet;
The presumptuous have held me too greatly in derision: yet have I not departed away from thy law.
52 Ik blijf uw aloude voorschriften indachtig, En voel mij er door getroost, o Jahweh;
I remembered thy decrees [which were] from olden times, O Lord, and thus comforted myself.
53 Maar gramschap maakt zich van mij meester, Om de zondaars, die uw geboden verlaten.
Horror seized on me because of the wicked that forsake thy law.
54 Uw inzettingen ruisen als zangen mij tegen In het huis van mijn ballingschap;
Songs have thy statutes been unto me in the house of my pilgrimage.
55 Des nachts, o Jahweh, gedenk ik uw Naam, En volg uw vermaningen op;
I remembered in the night thy name, O Lord, and observed thy law.
56 Want dit is mijn plicht: Dat ik uw bevelen volbreng.
This came to pass unto me, because I had kept thy precepts.
57 Gij zijt mijn erfdeel, o Jahweh: Ik heb beloofd, uw woord te volbrengen;
CHETH. My portion is the Lord, have I said, that I might observe thy words.
58 Van ganser harte zoek ik uw aanschijn, Wees mij genadig naar uw bestel.
I make entreaty before thee with all my heart: be gracious unto me according to thy promise.
59 Ik overleg bij mijzelf, welke weg ik moet gaan, En naar uw vermaningen richt ik mijn schreden;
I have thought over my ways, and made my feet return unto thy testimonies.
60 Ik haast mij, zonder ooit te talmen, Om uw geboden te onderhouden;
I hastened, and delayed not to observe thy commandments.
61 En al houden mij de strikken der bozen gevangen, Nooit vergeet ik uw wet;
Companies of wicked men have surrounded me; but I have not forgotten thy law.
62 Midden in de nacht sta ik op, Om U voor uw rechtvaardige voorschriften te danken.
At midnights do I constantly rise to give thanks unto thee, because of thy righteous decrees.
63 Ik ben de vriend van al, die U vreest, En die uw bevelen volbrengt;
An associate am I unto all that fear thee, and unto those that keep thy precepts.
64 De aarde is vol van uw goedheid, o Jahweh, Leer mij maar uw inzettingen kennen.
Of thy kindness, O Lord, is the earth full: teach me thy statutes.
65 Gij hebt uw dienstknecht wèl gedaan, O Jahweh, naar uw woord;
TETH. Thou hast shown goodness on thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word.
66 Schenk mij een helder oordeel en inzicht, Want ik heb vertrouwen in uw geboden.
The best of discernment and knowledge do thou teach me; for in thy commandments do I believe.
67 Eer ik vernederd werd, dwaalde ik af, Maar nu houd ik mij aan uw bestel;
Before I was afflicted I was in error; but now I observe thy saying.
68 Gij zijt goed en doet wèl: Leer mij dan uw inzettingen kennen.
Thou art good, and doing good: teach me thy statutes.
69 Onbeschaamden belasteren mij, Want van ganser harte neem ik uw bevelen in acht;
The presumptuous have invented falsehoods against me; but I will with all my heart indeed keep thy precepts.
70 Lomp als vet is hun hart, Maar ìk vind mijn vreugd in uw wet;
Gross as fat is their heart; but I take truly delight in thy law.
71 En het was mij goed, te worden vernederd, Om uw vermaningen te leren verstaan;
It is well for me that I have been afflicted, in order that I might learn thy statutes.
72 Want de voorschriften van uw mond schat ik hoger, Dan duizenden in goud en zilver!
Better is unto me the law of thy mouth than thousands of gold and silver.
73 Uw handen hebben mij gemaakt en gevormd, Geef mij ook inzicht, om uw geboden te kennen;
YOD. Thy hands have made me and established me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
74 Dan zien, die U vrezen, met vreugd op mij neer, Omdat ik vertrouw op uw woord.
Those that fear thee will see me and be rejoiced; because I have waited for thy word.
75 Ik weet, dat uw oordeel rechtvaardig is, Jahweh, En dat Gij mij naar verdienste kastijdt;
I know, O Lord, that thy decrees are righteous, and that in faithfulness thou hast afflicted me.
76 Maar uw genade zij mij tot troost, Naar uw bestel voor uw knecht;
Let, I pray thee, thy kindness come to comfort me, according to thy promise unto thy servant.
77 Uw ontferming dale op mij neer, en doe mij herleven, Want uw wet is mij een verkwikking.
Let thy mercies come unto me, that I may live; for thy law is my delight.
78 Schande voor de trotsen, die onverdiend mij verdrukken, Daar ik uw bevelen bedenk;
Let the presumptuous be made ashamed; because they have without a cause dealt perversely with me; but I will indeed meditate on thy precepts.
79 Maar mijn vrienden mogen zijn, die U vrezen, En die uw vermaningen kennen;
Let those that fear thee return unto me, and those that know thy testimonies.
80 Door uw inzettingen worde mijn hart zonder smet, Zodat ik niet beschaamd hoef te staan.
Let my heart be entire in thy statutes, in order that I may not be put to shame.
81 Mijn ziel smacht naar uw heil, Ik vertrouw op uw woord;
CAPH. My soul ardently desireth for thy salvation: for thy word do I wait.
82 Mijn ogen hunkeren naar uw bestel, En vragen: Wanneer brengt Gij mij troost?
My eyes look eagerly for thy promise, saying, When wilt thou comfort me?
83 Al ben ik als een leren zak in de rook, Toch vergeet ik uw inzettingen niet.
For I am become like a bottle in the smoke: [yet] do I not forget thy statutes.
84 Ach, hoelang zal uw dienstknecht nog leven, En wanneer voltrekt Gij aan mijn vervolgers uw oordeel?
How many are the days of thy servant? when wilt thou execute justice on my persecutors?
85 Onbeschaamden hebben mij kuilen gegraven, Want ze leven niet naar uw wet.
The presumptuous have dug pits for me, which is not in accordance with thy law.
86 Al uw geboden zijn waarachtig, Maar men vervolgt mij met leugens: Ach kom mij te hulp;
All thy commandments are founded on truth: without cause they persecute me; help thou me.
87 Men had mij haast van de aarde verdelgd, Toch had ik mij niet aan uw bevelen onttrokken;
But little was wanting that they had consumed me upon earth; but I have truly not forsaken thy precepts.
88 Behoud mij in het leven naar uw genade, En de vermaningen van uw mond volg ik op!
According to thy kindness give me life, that I may observe the testimony of thy mouth.
89 Uw woord blijft eeuwig, o Jahweh, Het staat vast als de hemel;
LAMED. To eternity, O Lord, standeth firm thy word with the heavens.
90 Uw bestel houdt stand van geslacht tot geslacht, Staat vast als de aarde, die Gij hebt gegrond;
Unto all generations endureth thy faithfulness: thou hast established the earth, and she standeth.
91 En naar uw voorschriften blijven ze ook nu nog bestaan, Want het heelal is uw dienstknecht!
According to thy ordinances they exist this day: for all are thy servants.
92 Wanneer uw wet mij niet had verkwikt, Dan was ik in mijn ellende te gronde gegaan;
Unless thy law had been my delights, I should long since have been lost in my affliction.
93 Nimmer zal ik dan uw bevelen vergeten, Want juist daardoor doet Gij mij leven.
Never will I forget thy precepts; for with them thou hast kept me alive.
94 Ik ben de uwe: Ach, kom mij te hulp, Want ijverig spoor ik uw voorschriften na;
Thine am I, save me; for thy precepts have I sought.
95 De bozen loeren, om mij te verdelgen, Maar ik blijf uw vermaningen achten.
Wicked men have waited for me to destroy me; [but] I will reflect on thy testimonies.
96 Aan alles zie ik een eind, al is het nog zo volmaakt, Maar uw gebod is onbegrensd!
Of all perfection have I seen the end; [but] thy commandment is exceedingly extended.
97 Hoe lief toch heb ik uw wet, Ik overweeg ze de hele dag door!
MEM. Oh how do I love thy law! all the day is it my (meditation)
98 Uw gebod maakt mij wijzer dan mijn vijanden zijn, Want het vergezelt mij voor eeuwig;
Wiser than my enemy doth thy commandment make me; for it is perpetually with me.
99 Ik heb meer verstand dan al mijn meesters, Want ik denk over uw vermaningen na;
Above all my teachers have I obtained intelligence; for thy testimonies are my (meditation)
100 En ik heb helderder inzicht dan de oudsten, Want ik neem uw bevelen in acht.
More than the elders do I possess understanding; because thy precepts do I keep.
101 Van alle slechte paden houd ik mijn voeten, Om uw woord te volbrengen;
From every evil path have I withholden my feet, in order that I might observe thy word.
102 En van uw voorschriften wijk ik niet af, Want Gij hebt ze mij zelf onderwezen.
From thy ordinances have I not departed; for thou hast instructed me.
103 Hoe zoet voor mijn gehemelte is uw bestel, Meer dan honing voor mijn mond;
How much sweeter are to my palate thy sayings than honey to my mouth!
104 Door uw inzettingen ben ik verstandig geworden, En haat dus ieder leugenpad.
Through thy precepts shall I obtain understanding: therefore do I hate every path of falsehood.
105 Uw woord is een lamp voor mijn voeten, En een licht op mijn pad;
NUN. A lamp unto my feet is thy word, and a light unto my path.
106 Ik heb gezworen, en zal het gestand doen, Uw rechtvaardige voorschriften te onderhouden.
I have sworn, and I will perform it, to observe thy righteous ordinances.
107 Ach, Jahweh, ik ga zo diep gebukt, Wek mij ten leven naar uw bestel;
I am afflicted exceedingly much: O Lord, revive me, according to thy word.
108 Wil de offeranden van mijn mond aanvaarden, o Jahweh, En onderricht mij in uw geboden.
Receive in favor the freewill-offerings of my mouth, I beseech thee, O Lord, and teach me thy ordinances.
109 Al zweeft mijn leven in voortdurend gevaar, Toch vergeet ik nimmer uw wet;
My life is in my hand continually: yet thy law do I not forget.
110 En al leggen de bozen mij strikken, Van al uw bevelen wijk ik niet af.
The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet have I not erred from thy precepts.
111 Uw vermaningen blijven mijn erfdeel voor eeuwig, Want ze zijn de vreugd van mijn hart;
I have taken thy testimonies as a heritage to eternity; for they are the joy of my heart.
112 En ik heb er mijn hart op gezet, Naar uw inzettingen te leven voor eeuwig en immer!
I have inclined my heart to perform thy statutes always, in all their ways.
113 Ik haat halfslachtige wezens, Maar uw wet heb ik lief;
SAMECH. Those of divided thoughts I hate; but thy law do I love.
114 Gij zijt mijn schuts en mijn schild, Ik vertrouw op uw woord;
My shelter and my shield art thou: for thy word do I wait.
115 Weg van mij, zondaars, Laat mij de geboden van mijn God onderhouden!
Depart from me, ye evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of God.
116 Sterk mij naar uw bestel, opdat ik blijf leven, En laat mijn hoop niet worden beschaamd;
Uphold me according to thy promise, that I may live, and let me not be made ashamed of my hope.
117 Stut mij, opdat ik worde gered, En mij altijd aan uw bevelen verkwikke.
Support me that I may be placed in safety, and I will direct my regard unto thy statutes continually.
118 Wie uw inzettingen verlaten, zijn U een gruwel, Want ze bedenken enkel leugens;
Thou hast trodden down all that erringly stray from thy statutes; for falsehood is their deceit.
119 En als afval veracht Gij alle bozen op aarde, Daarom heb ik uw vermaningen lief.
Like dross dost thou put away all the wicked of the earth: therefore do I love thy testimonies.
120 Mijn lichaam beeft voor U van schrik, En ik ben bevreesd voor uw oordeel!
My flesh trembleth shudderingly from dread of thee, and of thy decrees am I afraid.
121 Een rechtvaardig oordeel hebt Gij geveld, Lever mij niet over aan mijn verdrukkers;
'AYIN. I have executed justice and righteousness: leave me not to those who oppress me.
122 Uw woord blijve borg voor uw dienaar, Laat geen onbeschaamde mij kwellen.
Protect thy servant for good: let not the presumptuous oppress me.
123 Mijn ogen smachten naar uw heil, En naar uw rechtvaardig bestel;
My eyes look eagerly for thy salvation, and for thy righteous promise.
124 Handel met uw dienstknecht naar uw genade, En leer mij uw inzettingen kennen;
Deal with thy servant according to thy kindness, and thy statutes do thou teach me.
125 Ik ben uw dienstknecht: ach, geef mij verstand, Opdat ik uw vermaningen moge begrijpen.
I am thy servant: give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies.
126 Het is tijd om te handelen, Jahweh: Men verkracht uw wet;
It is time to act for the Lord: they have broken thy law.
127 Daarom heb ik uw geboden lief, Boven goud en edel metaal;
Therefore do I love thy commandments more than gold, and more than fine gold.
128 Daarom richt ik mij naar al uw bevelen, En haat ik ieder leugenpad.
Therefore do I esteem all thy precepts in all things as right: every path of falsehood do I hate.
129 Uw vermaningen zijn wondervol, Mijn ziel neemt ze daarom in acht;
PE. Wonderful are thy testimonies: therefore doth my soul keep them.
130 De openbaring van uw woord straalt licht van zich uit, En geeft wijsheid aan de eenvoudigen;
The opening of thy words giveth light, it giveth understanding unto the simple.
131 En smachtend open ik mijn mond, Want ik hunker naar uw geboden.
I opened my mouth, and panted for breath; because for thy commandments did I long.
132 Keer U tot mij, en wees mij genadig, Naar uw beschikking voor hen, die uw Naam beminnen;
Turn thou unto me, and be gracious unto me, as is thy wont unto those that love thy name.
133 Richt mijn schreden naar uw bestel, En laat geen onheil mij treffen.
My steps establish thou through thy promise, and suffer not any wrong to have dominion over me.
134 Bevrijd mij van de verdrukking der mensen, Opdat ik trouw uw bevelen volbrenge;
Deliver me from the oppression of man, and I will observe thy precepts.
135 Laat uw aangezicht stralen over uw dienstknecht, En leer mij uw inzettingen kennen.
Let thy face shine upon thy servant, and teach me thy statutes.
136 Stromen van tranen ontwellen mijn ogen, Omdat men uw wet niet beleeft.
Streams of water have run down my eyes; because they had not observed thy law.
137 Rechtvaardig zijt Gij, o Jahweh, En ook uw voorschriften zijn volgens recht;
TZADDE. Righteous art thou, O Lord, and upright are thy decrees.
138 In gerechtigheid hebt Gij uw vermaningen gegeven, En in volledige trouw.
Thou hast commanded thy testimonies, as righteous and faithful exceedingly.
139 Ik word door ergernis verteerd, Omdat mijn vijanden uw woord vergeten;
My zeal destroyeth me; because my assailants have forgotten thy words.
140 Maar uw bestel is beproefd als in vuur, En uw dienstknecht heeft het lief;
Thy promise is greatly refined, and thy servant loveth it.
141 En al ben ik maar klein en gering, Nooit wil ik uw bevelen vergeten.
I am little and despised: yet thy precepts have I not forgotten.
142 Ongerept blijft uw gerechtigheid voor eeuwig en immer, En waarachtig uw wet;
Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.
143 Al treffen mij nood en ellende, Uw geboden zijn mijn verkwikking.
Distress and trouble have overtaken me: [yet] are thy commandments my delights.
144 Uw inzettingen zijn rechtvaardig voor eeuwig; Onderricht mij er in, opdat ik blijf leven!
Righteous are thy testimonies for everlasting: give me understanding, that I may live.
145 Ik roep met heel mijn hart: Jahweh verhoor mij! Uw inzettingen wil ik trouw onderhouden;
KOPH. I have called with all my heart: answer me, O Lord: thy statutes will I keep.
146 Ik roep U aan: ach, kom mij te hulp, Om uw vermaningen te beleven.
I have called on thee, save me, and I will observe thy testimonies.
147 Ik ben met mijn smeken de dageraad vóór, Want ik smacht naar uw woord;
I come before thee in the dawn of morning, and cry: for thy word do I wait.
148 En mijn ogen voorkomen de nachtwake, Om op te zien naar uw bestel.
My eyes are awake before the night-watches, that I may meditate in thy saying.
149 Hoor in uw goedheid mijn smeken, o Jahweh, En wek mij naar uw beschikking ten leven;
Hear my voice according to thy kindness: O Lord, according to thy decree do thou grant me life.
150 Mijn listige vervolgers zijn al nabij, Maar ze houden zich ver van uw wet;
They that pursue mischievous devices draw nigh: from thy law are they far.
151 Maar Gij ook, Jahweh, zijt nabij, En waarachtig zijn al uw geboden;
Near art thou, O Lord; and all thy commandments are the truth.
152 Van oudsher ken ik uw bevelen, Want Gij hebt ze gegeven voor eeuwig!
Of old already I knew of thy testimonies; because for eternity hast thou founded them.
153 Aanschouw mijn ellende, en kom mij te hulp, Want nooit vergeet ik uw wet;
RESH. Look on my affliction, and release me; for thy law have I not forgotten.
154 Wees mijn verdediger en mijn beschermer, En doe mij leven naar uw bestel.
Plead my cause, and deliver me: according to thy promise do thou revive me.
155 Het heil blijft ver van de bozen verwijderd, Want ze zoeken uw inzettingen niet;
Far from the wicked is salvation; because thy statutes have they not sought for.
156 Maar uw barmhartigheid, Jahweh, is groot, Wek mij ten leven naar uw woord.
Thy mercies are abundant, O Lord; according to thy decrees do thou revive me.
157 Al zijn mijn vervolgers en vijanden talrijk, Van uw vermaningen wijk ik niet af;
Many are my persecutors and my assailants: yet from thy testimonies do I not turn away.
158 Het walgt mij, als ik trouwelozen aanschouw, Die uw geboden niet willen volbrengen.
I beheld the treacherous, and felt disgust; because they observed not thy saying.
159 Zie, hoe ik uw bevelen liefheb, o Jahweh, Laat mij dan leven naar uw genade;
Behold that I love thy precepts: O Lord, according to thy kindness do thou revive me.
160 Uw woord is een en al waarheid, En eeuwig houden al uw rechtvaardige voorschriften stand.
The summit of thy word is truth: and the whole of thy righteous judgment endureth for ever.
161 Vorsten vervolgen mij zonder enige grond, Maar mijn hart is enkel beducht voor uw woord.
SHIN. Princes have persecuted me without a cause; but of thy word standeth my heart in dread.
162 Ik verheug mij over uw bestel, Als iemand, die rijke buit heeft gemaakt;
I am rejoiced over thy promise, as one that findeth great spoil.
163 Leugen en haat verfoei ik, Maar uw inzettingen heb ik lief.
Falsehood I hate and abhor: but thy law do I love.
164 Zeven maal daags zing ik uw lof, Om uw rechtvaardige voorschriften;
Seven times in the day do I praise thee because of thy righteous decrees.
165 Die uw wet beminnen, genieten een heerlijke vrede, En struikelen nooit.
Abundant peace have they who love thy law; and thee is nothing that causeth them to stumble.
166 Jahweh, ik smacht naar uw heil, En onderhoud uw geboden;
I have hoped for thy salvation, O Lord, and thy commandments have I fulfilled.
167 Ik volg uw vermaningen op, En bemin ze van harte;
My soul hath observed thy testimonies, and I love them exceedingly.
168 Ik volbreng uw bevelen, Ja, heel mijn leven ligt voor U bloot!
I have observed thy precepts and thy testimonies; because all my ways are before thee.
169 Jahweh, mijn smeken dringe tot U door, Geef mij inzicht naar uw woord;
TAV. Let my entreaty come near before thee, O Lord: according to thy word grant me understanding.
170 Moge mijn gebed voor uw aangezicht komen, Breng mij redding naar uw bestel.
Let my supplication come before thee: according to thy promise do thou deliver me.
171 Dan zal een lofzang mijn lippen ontstromen, Omdat Gij uw inzettingen mij hebt geleerd;
My lips shall utter praise; because thou wilt teach me thy statutes.
172 En mijn tong zal uw waarachtigheid loven, Want al uw vermaningen zijn gerecht.
My tongue shall speak loudly of thy promise; for all thy commandments are righteous.
173 Uw hand zij bereid, mij te helpen, Want uw bevelen heb ik verkoren;
Let thy hand be [ready] to help me; for thy precepts have I chosen.
174 Jahweh, ik smacht naar uw heil, En uw wet is mij een verkwikking.
I have longed for thy salvation, O Lord; and thy law is my delights.
175 Mijn ziel moge leven, om U te loven, En uw voorschriften mogen mij helpen;
Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee: and let thy decrees help me.
176 Als een verloren schaap dool ik rond: zoek uw dienaar weer op, Want nimmer heb ik uw geboden vergeten!
I have gone erringly astray like a lost sheep: seek thy servant; for thy commandments have I not forgotten.
