Psalmen 105
1 Halleluja! Looft Jahweh, verkondigt zijn Naam, Maakt onder de volken zijn daden bekend;
O give thanks unto the Lord; call on his name: make known among the people his deeds.
2 Zingt en juicht Hem ter ere, En verhaalt al zijn wonderen!
Sing unto, him, sing praises unto him: speak of all his wonderful works.
3 Roemt in zijn heilige Naam: Vreugd moet er zijn in de harten der Jahweh-vereerders!
Glorify yourselves in his holy name: let the heart of those rejoice that seek the Lord.
4 Wendt u tot Jahweh en zijn macht, Houdt niet op, zijn aanschijn te zoeken;
Inquire after the Lord and his strength: seek his presence evermore.
5 Denkt aan de wonderen, die Hij deed, Aan zijn tekenen, aan zijn gerichten:
Remember his wonderful works which he hath done; his tokens, and the decrees of his mouth;
6 Gij kinderen van Abraham, zijn dienaar; Gij zonen van Jakob, zijn vriend!
O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob, his elect.
7 Hij, Jahweh, is onze God; Voor heel de aarde gelden zijn wetten!
He is the Lord our God: over all the earth are his decrees.
8 Hij blijft zijn verbond voor eeuwig indachtig, En zijn belofte in duizend geslachten:
He remembereth his covenant for ever, the word which he hath commanded, to the thousandth generation.
9 Het verbond, met Abraham gesloten, De belofte, aan Isaäk gezworen.
Which he covenanted with Abraham; and his oath unto Isaac;
10 En Hij heeft die belofte aan Jakob bekrachtigd, Aan Israël het eeuwig verbond:
And which he established unto Jacob as a statute, unto Israel as an everlasting covenant:
11 Hij zeide: "Aan u zal Ik geven Het land van Kanaän als uw erfdeel."
Saying, “Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, as the portion of your inheritance.”
12 Toch waren ze daar maar gering in getal, Nog zonder aanzien en vreemd.
When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it;
13 En toen ze nog zwierven van volk tot volk, Van het ene rijk naar het andere,
And when they wandered from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people:
14 Duldde Hij niet, dat iemand ze kwelde, Maar tuchtigde koningen om hunnentwil:
He suffered no man to oppress them; yea, he reproved kings for their sake;
15 "Raakt mijn gezalfden niet aan, En doet mijn profeten geen leed!"
[Saying, ] “Touch not my anointed, and do my prophets no harm,”—
16 En toen Hij honger in het land had ontboden, Alle broodstokken stuk had geslagen,
And he called for a famine over the land; every staff of bread he broke.
17 Zond Hij een man voor hen uit, Werd Josef verkocht als een slaaf;
He sent a man before them; for a servant was Joseph sold;
18 Men sloeg zijn voeten in boeien, In ijzeren ketens werd hij gekluisterd.
They forced into fetters his feet; in iron was his body put:
19 Maar toen eindelijk zijn voorzegging vervuld was, En Jahweh’s uitspraak hem in het gelijk had gesteld,
Until the time that his word came to pass, [when] the saying of the Lord had purified him.
20 Beval de koning, hem te bevrijden, Liet de heerser der volken hem los;
The king sent and unfettered him; the ruler of people, and let him go free.
21 Hij stelde hem aan tot heer van zijn huis, Tot bestuurder van heel zijn bezit.
He appointed him lord of his house, and ruler of all his possession:
22 En terwijl hij diens vorsten door zijn geest onderrichtte, En wijsheid leerde aan zijn oudsten,
That he might bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his ancients wisdom.
23 Trok Israël Egypte binnen, Werd Jakob gast in het land van Cham.
Then came Israel into Egypt, and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
24 Daar liet Hij zijn volk heel vruchtbaar worden, Veel talrijker dan zijn verdrukkers.
And he increased his people greatly, and made them stronger than their adversaries.
25 Maar toen hun hart verstarde, en zij zijn volk gingen haten, En trouweloos zijn dienaren kwelden,
He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilely with his servants.
26 Zond Hij Moses, zijn dienstknecht, Aäron, dien Hij zelf had gekozen;
He sent Moses his servant, Aaron also whom he had made choice of.
27 En zij verrichtten zijn tekenen onder hen, En wonderen in het land van Cham.
They displayed among them his effective signs, and wonders in the land of Ham.
28 Hij zond duisternis af, en maakte het donker; Maar men achtte niet op zijn bevel.
He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.
29 Hij veranderde hun wateren in bloed, En doodde hun vissen.
He changed their waters into blood, and slew their fish.
30 Hun land krioelde van kikkers, Tot in de zalen zelfs van hun koning.
Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the very chambers of their kings.
31 Hij sprak: Daar kwamen de muggen, Muskieten over heel hun gebied.
He spoke, and there came various wild beasts, lice also within all their boundary.
32 Hij gaf hun hagel voor regen, En het vuur laaide op in hun land.
He gave them as their rain hail, and flames of fire in their land.
33 Hij sloeg hun wijnstok en vijg, En knakte de bomen op hun grond.
And he smote their vines and their fig-trees, and broke the trees within their boundary.
34 Hij sprak: Daar kwamen de sprinkhanen aan, En ontelbare slokkers;
He spoke, and the locusts came, and crickets, and that without number;
35 Ze verslonden al het gewas op het veld, En schrokten de vruchten weg van hun akker.
And they ate up all the herbs in their land, and ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 Hij sloeg alle eerstgeborenen in hun land, Al de eersten van hun mannenkracht.
And he smote all the first-born in their land, the first of all their strength.
37 Toen voerde Hij hen uit met zilver en goud, En geen van hun stammen bleef struikelend achter.
And he brought them forth with silver and gold: and there was not one that stumbled among his tribes.
38 Egypte was blij, dat ze gingen; Want de schrik voor hen had ze bevangen.
Egypt rejoiced when they departed; for the dread of them was fallen upon them.
39 En Hij spreidde een wolk uit tot dek, Een vuur, om de nacht te verlichten.
He spread out a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light in the night.
40 Zij baden: Hij liet de kwakkels komen, En verzadigde hen met brood uit de hemel;
The people asked, and he brought quails, and with heavenly bread he satisfied them.
41 Hij spleet de rotsen: daar borrelden de wateren, En vloeiden door de woestijn als een stroom:
He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out: they ran in the dry places like a river.
42 Want Hij was zijn heilige belofte indachtig, Aan Abraham, zijn dienaar, gedaan!
For he remembered his holy word given to Abraham his servant.
43 Zo leidde Hij zijn volk met gejubel, Zijn uitverkorenen onder gejuich.
And he brought forth his people with gladness, with joyful song his elect.
44 Hij schonk hun de landen der heidenen, En ze erfden het vermogen der volken:
And he gave them the lands of nations; and the labor of people they obtained as an inheritance:
45 Opdat ze zijn geboden zouden volbrengen, En zijn wetten onderhouden!
So that they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Hallelujah.
