Psalmen 10
1 Waarom, Jahweh, zoudt Gij veraf blijven staan, U verbergen in tijden van nood?
Yahweh, (why are you far away [from us]?/it seems that you are far away [from us].) [RHQ] Why do you not pay attention when we have troubles [RHQ]?
2 Waarom zou de arme zich ergeren aan de trots van den boze, In de listen worden verstrikt, die hij spon?
People who are proud gladly cause poor people to suffer. So [cause what they do to others to happen to them]! May they be caught in the [same] traps that they set to catch others [MET]!
3 Zie, de goddeloze pocht op zijn lusten, De woekeraar prijst zich gelukkig,
They brag about the [evil] things that they want to do. They praise people who seize from others things that do not belong to them, and they curse you, Yahweh.
4 De zondaar trekt honend zijn neus op voor Jahweh, En denkt maar: "Hij straft niet; er is geen God!"
Wicked people are very proud. As a result, they do not (seek help from/are not concerned about) God; they do not even think that God exists.
5 Zijn wandel is altijd krom uw wetten gooit hij ver van zich af, En wie hem weerstaat, fluit hij uit;
But [it seems that] they succeed in everything that they do. They do not think that they will be condemned/punished for their deeds, and they (sneer at/make fun of) their enemies.
6 Hij zegt bij zich zelf: "Nooit zal ik wankelen; Van geslacht tot geslacht treft mij ongeluk noch vloek!"
They think, “Nothing bad will happen to us! We will never have troubles!”
7 Zijn mond zit vol bedrog en geweld, Verderf en onheil kleven aan zijn tong.
When they talk [MTY], they are always cursing, lying, and threatening to harm others. They constantly say [MTY] evil things that show that they are ready to do cruel things to others.
8 Hij legt zich in hinderlaag achter de heggen, Om heimelijk de onschuld te moorden. Zijn ogen begluren den zwakke,
They hide in villages, ready to (ambush/suddenly attack) and kill people who (are innocent/have done nothing wrong). They constantly search for people who will not be able to (resist/defend themselves) [when they are attacked].
9 Hij ligt op de loer als een leeuw in zijn hol; Hij besluipt den ongelukkige, om hem te bespringen, Grijpt hem vast, en sleept hem weg in zijn net.
They are like [MET] lions that crouch down and hide, waiting to pounce on their prey. They are like hunters that catch their prey with a net and then drag it away.
10 Dan slaat hij hem neer, kromt zich over hem heen, En de ongelukkige valt in zijn klauwen.
Just like helpless animals are crushed, people who cannot defend themselves are killed because wicked people are very strong.
11 En hij zegt bij zich zelf: "God vergeet het! Hij verbergt zijn gelaat; Hij ziet het niet eens!"
Wicked people say, “God will not pay any attention [to what we do]. His eyes are covered, so he never sees anything.”
12 Sta op dan Jahweh! Steek uw hand uit, o God; Vergeet de ongelukkigen niet!
Yahweh God, arise [and help us] Punish [IDM] those wicked people! And do not forget those who are suffering!
13 Waarom zou de booswicht God blijven honen, Bij zichzelf blijven zeggen: "Toch vergeldt Gij het niet!"
Wicked people revile you [RHQ] continually. They think, “God will never punish us!”
14 Gij ziet toch het leed en de ellende; Gij blikt er op neer, om ze te wreken! De zwakke verlaat zich op U, En een wees hebt Gij altijd geholpen!
But you see the trouble and the distress [that they cause]. People who are suffering expect that you will help them; and you help orphans, [also].
15 Verbrijzel de arm van zondaar en boze; Vergeld hem zijn misdaad, laat ze niet ongestraft.
(Break the arms/Destroy the power) of wicked [DOU] people! Continue to pursue and punish them for the wicked things that they do, until they stop doing those things.
16 Jahweh, wees Koning voor eeuwig en immer; Weg met de heidenen, weg uit zijn land!
Yahweh, you are our king forever, but [wicked] nations will disappear from the earth.
17 Hoor het smachtend verlangen der armen, o Jahweh; Luister naar de roep van hun hart:
You have listened to afflicted/suffering people when they cry out to you. You hear them [when they pray], and you encourage [IDM] them.
18 Om recht te verschaffen aan wees en verdrukte, Zodat ze niemand ter wereld meer vrezen.
You show that orphans and oppressed people have not done things that are wrong, with the result that human beings will not cause people to be terrified any more.
