Spreuken 28
1 De boze vlucht, ook al wordt hij niet vervolgd; De rechtvaardige voelt zich veilig als een leeuw.
The wicked flee when none pursueth: but the righteous are bolde as a lyon.
2 De misdaad van tyrannen doet twisten ontstaan; Door een verstandig man worden ze bijgelegd
For the transgression of the land there are many princes thereof: but by a man of vnderstanding and knowledge a realme likewise endureth long.
3 Een man, die rijk is, maar de armen verdrukt, Is een regen, die wegspoelt, geen brood geeft.
A poore man, if he oppresse the poore, is like a raging raine, that leaueth no foode.
4 Die om de wet niet geven, prijzen den boze; Die de wet onderhouden, zijn kwaad op hem.
They that forsake the Law, prayse the wicked: but they that keepe the Law, set themselues against them.
5 Slechte mensen verstaan geen recht, Maar die Jahweh zoeken begrijpen alles.
Wicked men vnderstand not iudgemnt: but they that seeke the Lord vnderstand all things.
6 Beter een arme, die onberispelijk wandelt, Dan een rijke, die verkeerde wegen gaat.
Better is the poore that walketh in his vprightnesse, then hee that peruerteth his wayes, though he be riche.
7 Het kind, dat de Wet onderhoudt, is verstandig; Maar gaat het om met verkwisters, het maakt zijn vader beschaamd.
He that keepeth the Law, is a childe of vnderstanding: but hee that feedeth the gluttons, shameth his father.
8 Wie zijn bezit vermeerdert met rente en toeslag, Spaart het op voor hem, die goed is voor de armen.
He that increaseth his riches by vsurie and interest, gathereth them for him that will be mercifull vnto the poore.
9 Wie weigert, naar de Wet te luisteren, Is een gruwel, zelfs als hij bidt.
He that turneth away his eare from hearing the Law, euen his prayer shalbe abominable.
10 Wie brave mensen op het slechte pad brengt, Valt zelf in zijn eigen kuil. Deugdzamen zullen het goede verwerven
He that causeth the righteous to go astray by an euill way, shall fall into his owne pit, and the vpright shall inherite good things.
11 Een rijkaard denkt, dat hij wijs is; Een arme, maar verstandige drommel doorziet hem.
The riche man is wise in his owne conceite: but the poore that hath vnderstanding, can trie him.
12 Als de rechtvaardigen juichen, is de welvaart groot; Krijgen bozen de macht, dan zijn de mensen zoek.
When righteous men reioyce, there is great glory: but when the wicked come vp, the man is tried.
13 Wie zijn zonden verheimelijkt, zal geen voorspoed hebben; Wie ze belijdt en laat varen, zal vergiffenis krijgen.
He that hideth his sinnes, shall not prosper: but he that confesseth, and forsaketh them, shall haue mercy.
14 Gelukkig de mens, die altijd angstvallig is; Wie zijn hart afstompt, valt in het kwaad.
Blessed is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart, shall fall into euill.
15 Een brullende leeuw en een roofzuchtige beer: Dat is een goddeloos heerser over een behoeftig volk.
As a roaring lyon, and an hungry beare, so is a wicked ruler ouer the poore people.
16 Een kortzichtig vorst maakt zich aan veel afpersing schuldig; Haat hij oneerlijke winst, dan leeft hij lang.
A prince destitute of vnderstanding, is also a great oppressour: but hee that hateth couetousnes, shall prolong his dayes.
17 Een mens, die bezwaard is door bloedschuld, Moet tot het graf een vluchteling blijven, door niemand geholpen.
A man that doeth violence against the blood of a person, shall flee vnto the graue, and they shall not stay him.
18 Wie onberispelijk wandelt, wordt gered; Wie verkeerde wegen gaat, valt in een kuil.
He that walketh vprightly, shalbe saued: but he that is froward in his wayes, shall once fall.
19 Wie een akker bebouwt, heeft eten genoeg; Wie zijn tijd verbeuzelt, zit volop in de armoe.
He that tilleth his land, shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth the idle, shall be filled with pouertie.
20 Een eerlijk mens wordt rijkelijk gezegend; Wie te spoedig rijk wil worden, blijft niet ongestraft.
A faythfull man shall abound in blessings, and he that maketh haste to be riche, shall not be innocent.
21 Partijdigheid is altijd verkeerd: Voor een stuk brood kan iemand een misdrijf begaan.
To haue respect of persons is not good: for that man will transgresse for a piece of bread.
22 Een boosaardig mens wil spoedig rijk worden, Niet vermoedend, dat het gebrek hem wacht.
A man with a wicked eye hasteth to riches, and knoweth not, that pouertie shall come vpon him.
23 Wie iemand vermaant, oogst later dank, Meer dan iemand met een gladde tong.
He that rebuketh a man, shall finde more fauour at length, then he that flattereth with his tongue.
24 Wie zijn vader en moeder berooft, en zegt: "Het is niet verkeerd", Is een gezel van den misdadiger.
Hee that robbeth his father and mother, and sayth, It is no transgression, is the companion of a man that destroyeth.
25 Een hebzuchtig mens stookt ruzie; Wie op Jahweh vertrouwt, heeft het goed.
He that is of a proude heart, stirreth vp strife: but he that trusteth in the Lord, shall be fatte.
26 Wie op zichzelf vertrouwt, is een domoor; Wie in wijsheid wandelt, wordt gered.
Hee that trusteth in his owne heart, is a foole: but he that walketh in wisdome, shall be deliuered.
27 Wie aan een arme geeft, krijgt geen gebrek; Wie zijn ogen voor hem sluit, wordt diep vervloekt.
He that giueth vnto the poore, shall not lacke: but he that hideth his eyes, shall haue many curses.
28 Krijgen bozen de macht, dan bergt zich de mens; Als zij ten onder gaan, worden de rechtvaardigen talrijk.
When the wicked rise vp, men hide them selues: but when they perish, ye righteous increase.
