Spreuken 15
1 Een vriendelijk antwoord ontwapent de toorn, Een krenkend gezegde jaagt de woede op.
A soft answer turneth back fury, And a grievous word raiseth up anger.
2 De tong der wijzen druipt van wijsheid, De mond der dommen stort dwaasheid uit.
The tongue of the wise maketh knowledge good, And the mouth of fools uttereth folly.
3 Jahweh’s ogen waren overal rond, Nauwkeurig lettend op slechten en goeden.
In every place are the eyes of Jehovah, Watching the evil and the good.
4 Rustige taal is een boom des levens, Heftige woorden wonden de ziel.
A healed tongue [is] a tree of life, And perverseness in it — a breach in the spirit.
5 Een dwaas slaat het vermaan van zijn vader in de wind; Verstandig hij, die op een waarschuwing let.
A fool despiseth the instruction of his father, And whoso is regarding reproof is prudent.
6 In het huis van den rechtvaardige heerst grote welvaart, Maar het gewin der zondaars gaat teloor.
[In] the house of the righteous [is] abundant strength, And in the increase of the wicked — trouble.
7 De lippen der wijzen verspreiden de kennis, Het hart der dwazen doet het niet.
The lips of the wise scatter knowledge, And the heart of fools [is] not right.
8 Jahweh heeft een afschuw van het offer der bozen, Maar welbehagen in het gebed der rechtvaardigen.
The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to Jehovah, And the prayer of the upright [is] His delight.
9 Jahweh verafschuwt de weg van een boosdoener; Hij houdt van hem, die naar rechtvaardigheid streeft.
An abomination to Jehovah [is] the way of the wicked, And whoso is pursuing righteousness He loveth.
10 Strenge straf wacht hem, die het rechte pad verlaat; Wie niets van bestraffing wil weten, zal sterven.
Chastisement [is] grievous to him who is forsaking the path, Whoso is hating reproof dieth.
11 Onderwereld en dodenrijk liggen open voor Jahweh, Hoeveel te meer de harten van de kinderen der mensen! (Sheol h7585)
Sheol and destruction [are] before Jehovah, Surely also the hearts of the sons of men. (Sheol h7585)
12 De spotter houdt er niet van, dat men hem vermaant; Daarom gaat hij niet met wijzen om.
A scorner loveth not his reprover, Unto the wise he goeth not.
13 Een vrolijk hart maakt een blij gezicht, Verdriet in het hart slaat de geest terneer.
A joyful heart maketh glad the face, And by grief of heart is the spirit smitten.
14 Een verstandig hart streeft naar kennis, De mond der dommen vermeit zich in dwaasheid.
The heart of the intelligent seeketh knowledge, And the mouth of fools enjoyeth folly.
15 Een neerslachtig mens heeft steeds kwade dagen, Voor een blijmoedig karakter is het altijd feest.
All the days of the afflicted [are] evil, And gladness of heart [is] a perpetual banquet.
16 Beter weinig te bezitten en Jahweh te vrezen, Dan vele schatten met wroeging erbij.
Better [is] a little with the fear of Jehovah, Than much treasure, and tumult with it.
17 Beter een schoteltje groente, waar liefde heerst, Dan een gemeste stier met haat erbij.
Better [is] an allowance of green herbs and love there, Than a fatted ox, and hatred with it.
18 Een driftkop stookt ruzie, Een lankmoedig mens bedaart de twist.
A man of fury stirreth up contention, And the slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19 De weg van een luiaard is als een doornheg, Het pad der vlijtigen is gebaand.
The way of the slothful [is] as a hedge of briers, And the path of the upright is raised up.
20 Een verstandig kind is een vreugde voor zijn vader, Een dwaas mens minacht zijn moeder.
A wise son rejoiceth a father. And a foolish man is despising his mother.
21 In dwaasheid vindt een onverstandig mens zijn genoegen, Een man van inzicht houdt de rechte weg.
Folly is joy to one lacking heart, And a man of intelligence directeth [his] going.
22 Bij gebrek aan overleg mislukken de plannen, Na rijp beraad komen ze tot stand.
Without counsel [is] the making void of purposes, And in a multitude of counsellors it is established.
23 Men kan plezier hebben in zijn eigen antwoord; Maar hoe treffend is een woord, dat van pas komt!
Joy [is] to a man in the answer of his mouth, And a word in its season — how good!
A path of life [is] on high for the wise, To turn aside from Sheol beneath. (Sheol h7585)
25 Jahweh haalt het huis der hoogmoedigen neer, Maar zet de grenspaal van een weduwe vast.
The house of the proud Jehovah pulleth down, And He setteth up the border of the widow.
26 Jahweh heeft een afschuw van snode plannen, Maar vriendelijke woorden zijn Hem rein.
An abomination to Jehovah [are] thoughts of wickedness, And pure [are] sayings of pleasantness.
27 Wie oneerlijke winst maakt, schaadt zijn eigen huis; Maar wie van omkoperij niets moet hebben, blijft leven.
A dishonest gainer is troubling his house, And whoso is hating gifts liveth.
28 Een rechtvaardig mens overweegt wat hij zegt, De mond der bozen stort onheil uit.
The heart of the righteous meditateth to answer, And the mouth of the wicked uttereth evil things.
29 Jahweh is verre van de zondaars, Maar Hij hoort het gebed der rechtvaardigen.
Far [is] Jehovah from the wicked, And the prayer of the righteous He heareth.
30 Stralende ogen verblijden het hart, Een goede tijding verkwikt het gebeente.
The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart, A good report maketh fat the bone.
31 Wie naar heilzame vermaning luistert, Woont in de kring der wijzen.
An ear that is hearing the reproof of life Doth lodge among the wise.
32 Wie de tucht niet telt, telt zich zelven niet; Wie naar vermaning luistert, krijgt inzicht.
Whoso is refusing instruction is despising his soul, And whoso is hearing reproof Is getting understanding.
33 Het ontzag voor Jahweh voedt op tot wijsheid, Aan de eer gaat ootmoed vooraf.
The fear of Jehovah [is] the instruction of wisdom, And before honour [is] humility!
