Spreuken 10
1 Spreuken van Salomon. Een verstandig kind is een vreugde voor zijn vader; Een kind, dat niet oppast, bezorgt zijn moeder verdriet.
The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise son, maketh a glad father, but, a foolish son, is the grief of his mother.
2 Oneerlijk verkregen rijkdom zal niet baten, Alleen de rechtvaardigheid redt uit de dood.
The treasures of lawlessness, do not profit, but, righteousness, delivereth from death.
3 Jahweh zal een rechtvaardige geen honger doen lijden, Maar de begeerlijkheid der bozen wijst Hij af.
Yahweh, suffereth not to famish, the soul of the righteous, but, the desire of the lawless, he thrusteth away.
4 Een vadsige hand kweekt armoe, De hand der vlijtigen maakt rijk.
He becometh poor, who dealeth with a slack hand, but, the hand of the diligent, maketh rich.
5 Wie in de zomer voorraad opdoet, is wijs; Wie in de oogsttijd slaapt, wordt beschaamd.
He that gathereth in summer, is a prudent son, he that sleepeth long in harvest, is a son causing shame.
6 Zegen rust op het hoofd van den rechtvaardige, Maar geweld zal het gezicht der bozen bedekken
Blessings, are for the head of the righteous man, but, the mouth of the lawless, covereth up wrong.
7 De nagedachtenis van den rechtvaardige wordt gezegend, De naam der bozen vervloekt.
The memory of the righteous, yieldeth blessing, but, the name of the lawless, dieth out.
8 Wie wijs is van harte, neemt voorschriften aan; Wie dwaze dingen zegt, komt ten val.
The wise in heart, will accept commandments, but, he that is foolish with his lips, shall be thrust away.
9 Hij gaat veilig, die onberispelijk wandelt; Maar wie zich op dwaalwegen waagt, wordt betrapt.
He that walketh uprightly, may walk securely, but, he that maketh crooked his ways, shall be found out.
10 Wie een oogje toedoet, veroorzaakt droefheid; Wie vrijmoedig terechtwijst, sticht vrede.
He that winketh with the eye, causeth sorrow, and, he that is foolish with his lips, shall be thrust aside.
11 Een bron van leven is de mond van den rechtvaardige, De mond der bozen verbergt geweld.
A well-spring of life, is the mouth of the righteous, but, the mouth of the lawless, covereth wrong.
12 De haat verwekt twist, Maar de liefde bedekt alle overtredingen.
Hatred, stirreth up strifes, but, over all transgressions, love throweth a covering.
13 Op de lippen van een wijze vindt men wijsheid, Op de rug van een onverstandig mens dient de stok.
In the lips of the intelligent, is found wisdom, but, a rod, is for the back of him that lacketh sense.
14 Wijzen houden de kennis voor zich, Maar de mond van een dwaas is een dreigend onheil.
Wise men, treasure up knowledge, but, the mouth of the foolish, is a terror near at hand.
15 Het bezit is voor den rijke een sterke burcht, De armoede voor de behoeftigen een ongeluk.
The substance of the rich, is his strong city, the terror of the poor, is their poverty.
16 Wat een rechtvaardige verdient, strekt ten leven; Maar de winst van een boze tot zonde.
The labour of the righteous, [leadeth] to life, the increase of the lawless, to sin.
17 Wie de tucht in ere houdt, betreedt de weg ten leven; Wie vermaningen in de wind slaat, verdwaalt.
On the way to life, is he that heedeth correction, but, he that hateth reproof, is going astray.
18 Eerlijke lippen houden hatelijkheden binnen; Wie lasterpraatjes verspreidt, is een dwaas.
He that concealeth hatred, hath false lips, and he that sendeth forth slander, the same, is a dullard.
19 In een vloed van woorden wordt licht een fout begaan; Wijs dus hij, die zijn lippen opeenknijpt!
In the multitude of words, there wanteth not transgression, but, he that restraineth his lips, sheweth prudence.
20 Het fijnste zilver is de tong van een rechtvaardige, Het hart der bozen is weinig waard.
Choice silver, is the tongue of the righteous, but, the sense of the lawless, is very small.
21 De lippen van een rechtvaardige kunnen velen leiden, Maar de bozen gaan aan hun onverstand dood.
The lips of the righteous, feed multitudes, but, the foolish, for lack of sense, shall die.
22 Het is de zegen van Jahweh, die rijk maakt; Eigen beslommering voegt er niets aan toe.
The blessing of Yahweh, itself maketh rich, and he addeth no grievance therewith.
23 Voor den dwaze is kwaaddoen een genot, Voor een man van inzicht het betrachten van wijsheid.
It is, mere sport to a stupid man, to commit lewdness, but, wisdom, pertaineth to a man of understanding.
24 Wat de boze ducht, dat overkomt hem; Wat een rechtvaardige verlangt, wordt hem geschonken.
The dread of the lawless one, the same, shall overtake him, but, the desire of the righteous, shall he granted.
25 Steekt er een storm op, dan is de boze verdwenen; Maar de rechtvaardige staat blijvend vast.
Like the passing away of a tempest, so the lawless one is not, but, the righteous, [hath] an age-abiding foundation.
26 Azijn voor de tanden en rook voor de ogen, Dàt is de luiaard voor wie hem een boodschap laat doen.
As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so, is the sluggard, to them who send him.
27 Het ontzag voor Jahweh verlengt het leven, Maar de jaren der bozen zijn kort.
The reverence of Yahweh, addeth days, but, the years of the lawless, shall be shortened.
28 De hoop der rechtvaardigen eindigt in vreugde, De verwachting der bozen loopt uit op niets.
The hope of the righteous, shall be gladness, but, the expectation of the lawless, shall vanish.
29 Jahweh is een steun voor wie onberispelijk wandelen, Maar een verschrikking voor allen, die kwaad doen.
A refuge for the blameless, is the path of Yahweh, but, destruction, [awaiteth] the workers of iniquity.
30 De rechtvaardige zal in der eeuwigheid niet wankelen, De bozen zullen de aarde niet blijven bewonen.
The righteous, to times age-abiding, shall remain unshaken, but, the lawless, shall not inhabit the earth.
31 De mond van een rechtvaardige brengt wijsheid voort, Maar een sluwe tong wordt uitgerukt.
The mouth of the righteous, beareth the fruit of wisdom, but, a perverse tongue, shall be cut off.
32 De lippen van een rechtvaardige weten wat welgevallig is, Maar de mond der bozen heeft slinkse streken.
The lips of the righteous, know what is pleasing, but, the mouth of the lawless, [speaketh] perversities.
