Jozua 15

1 Wat door het lot aan de families van de stam der Judeërs werd toegewezen, strekte zich uit tot het gebied van Edom, van de woestijn Sin af tot Kadesj in het zuiden.

And the lot for the tribe of the sons of Judah, for their families, is to the border of Edom; the wilderness of Zin southward, at the extremity of the south;

2 Hun zuidelijke grens begon onderaan de Zoutzee, van de baai af, die zuidwaarts loopt;

and to them the south border is at the extremity of the Salt Sea, from the bay which is looking southward;

3 zij boog ten zuiden van het hoge Akrabbim af, liep dan over Sin, en steeg naar het zuiden van Kadesj-Barnéa; vervolgens liep ze over Chasar-Addar, en met een bocht naar Karka;

and it has gone out to the south to Maaleh-Akrabbim, and passed over to Zin, and gone up on the south to Kadesh-Barnea, and passed over [to] Hezron, and gone up to Adar, and turned around to Karkaa,

4 verder ging ze naar Asmon, om uit te komen aan de beek van Egypte, zodat de grens uitliep op de zee. Dit was dus hun zuidelijke grens.

and passed over [to] Azmon, and gone out [at] the Brook of Egypt, and the outgoings of the border have been at the sea; this is the south border to you.

5 De oostelijke grens was de Zoutzee tot aan de monding van de Jordaan. De noordelijke grens begon bij de baai aan de uitmonding van de Jordaan;

And the east border [is] the Salt Sea, to the extremity of the Jordan, and the border at the north quarter [is] from the bay of the sea, at the extremity of the Jordan;

6 ze steeg naar Bet-Chogla, liep ten noorden van Bet-Haäraba, naar de steen van Bóhan, den zoon van Ruben,

and the border has gone up [to] Beth-Hoglah, and passed over on the north of Beth-Arabah, and the border has gone up [to] the stone of Bohan son of Reuben:

7 en vervolgens naar Debir, op enige afstand van de vallei van Akor; daarna boog ze noordwaarts naar Gilgal af, tegenover de pas van Adoemmim ten zuiden van de beek, en verder naar de wateren van En-Sjémesj, tot ze uitkwam bij En-Rogel.

and the border has gone up toward Debir from the Valley of Achor, and northward looking to Gilgal, which [is] opposite the ascent of Adummim, which [is] on the south of the brook, and the border has passed over to the waters of En-Shemesh, and its outgoings have been to En-Rogel;

8 Daarna steeg de grens door het Ben-Hinnomdal naar de zuidelijke bergrug der Jeboesieten, waar Jerusalem lag; verder steeg ze naar de top van de berg, die westelijk tegenover het Hinnomdal ligt, dat zich aan het noordelijk uiteinde van de vallei der Refaieten bevindt.

and the border has gone up the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to the side of the Jebusite on the south (it [is] Jerusalem), and the border has gone up to the top of the hill-country which [is] on the front of the Valley of Hinnom westward, which [is] in the extremity of the Valley of the Rephaim northward;

9 Van de top van de berg keerde de grens zich naar de bron van de wateren van Neftóach, kwam uit bij de steden van het Efrongebergte, en boog daarna om naar Baäla, ook Kirjat-Jearim geheten.

and the border has been marked out, from the top of the hill-country to the fountain of the waters of Nephtoah, and has gone out to the cities of Mount Ephron, and the border has been marked out [to] Ba‘alah (it [is] Kirjath-Jearim);

10 Vervolgens liep de grens van Baäla met een bocht westwaarts naar het Seïrgebergte, en verder over de bergrug van Jearim naar het noorden, waar Kesalon lag. Daarna daalde ze af naar Bet-Sjémesj en verder naar Timna,

and the border has gone around from Ba‘alah westward, to Mount Seir, and passed over to the side of Mount Jearim (it [is] Chesalon), on the north, and gone down [to] Beth-Shemesh, and passed over to Timnah;

11 tot het noorden van de bergrug van Ekron; dan boog ze naar Sjikkeron af, liep door over de berg Baäla, en kwam uit bij Jabneël, zodat de grens aan de zee eindigde.

and the border has gone out to the side of Ekron northward, and the border has been marked out [to] Shicron, and has passed over to Mount Ba‘alah, and gone out [to] Jabneel; and the outgoings of the border have been at the sea.

12 De westelijke grens was de Grote Zee met haar kust. Dit zijn dan naar alle zijden de grenzen van de families der Judeërs.

And the west border [is] to the Great Sea, and [its] border; this [is] the border of the sons of Judah all around for their families.

13 Volgens Jahweh’s opdracht gaf Josuë aan Kaleb, den zoon van Jefoenne, een aandeel midden onder de Judeërs, namelijk Kirjat-Arba of Hebron; deze Arba was de vader van Anak.

And to Caleb son of Jephunneh he has given a portion in the midst of the sons of Judah, according to the command of YHWH to Joshua, [even] the city of Arba, father of Anak—it [is] Hebron.

14 Daaruit verdreef Kaleb de drie Anaks-kinderen Sjesjai, Achiman en Talmai, de zonen van Anak.

And Caleb is dispossessing there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, children of Anak,

15 Vandaar trok hij op tegen de bevolking van Debir; Debir werd vroeger Kirjat-Séfer genoemd.

and he goes up there to the inhabitants of Debir; and the name of Debir [was] formerly Kirjath-Sepher.

16 Toen zei Kaleb: Wie Kirjat-Séfer aanvalt en inneemt, geef ik mijn dochter Aksa tot vrouw.

And Caleb says, “He who strikes Kirjath-Sephar, and has captured it—I have given my daughter Achsah to him for a wife.”

17 Otniël, de zoon van Kenaz, de broer van Kaleb, nam het in; en deze gaf hem dus zijn dochter Aksa tot vrouw.

And Othniel son of Kenaz, brother of Caleb, captures it, and he gives his daughter Achsah to him for a wife.

18 Maar toen zij aankwam, spoorde hij haar aan, haar vader akkerland te vragen. Ze boog zich dus van den ezel neer, zodat Kaleb haar vroeg: Wat is er?

And it comes to pass, in her coming in, that she persuades him to ask [for] a field from her father, and she comes down off the donkey, and Caleb says to her, “What do you [want]?”

19 Ze zeide: Schenk mij een gift; nu ge mij eenmaal voor de Négeb bestemd hebt, moet ge mij ook waterbronnen geven. En hij gaf haar bronnen in het hoogland en laagland.

And she says, “Give a blessing to me; when you have given me the land of the south, then you have given springs of waters to me”; and he gives the upper springs and the lower springs to her.

20 Dit was het erfdeel der families van de stam der Judeërs.

This [is] the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Judah, for their families.

23 Kédesj, Chasor, Jitnan,

and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan,

24 Zif, Télem, Bealot,

Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth,

25 Chasor-Chadatta, Keri-jot-Chesron, dat is Chasor,

and Hazor, Hadattah, and Kerioth, Hezron (it [is] Hazor),

26 Amam, Sjema, Molada,

Amam, and Shema, and Moladah,

27 Chasar-Gadda, Chesjmon, Bet-Pélet,

and Hazar-Gaddah, and Heshmon, and Beth-Palet,

28 Chasar-Sjoeal, Beër-Sjéba en onderhorige plaatsen;

32 Lebaot, Sjilchim en En-Rimmon; in het geheel negen en twintig steden met haar dorpen.

and Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon; all the cities [are] twenty-nine, and their villages.

37 Senan, Chadasja, Migdal-Gad,

38 Dilan, Mispe, Jokteël,

and Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel,

39 Lakisj, Boskat, Eglon,

Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon,

40 Kabbon, Lachmas, Kitlisj,

and Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Kithlish,

41 Gederot, Bet-Dagon, Naäma en Makkeda; zestien steden met haar dorpen.

45 Ekron met onderhorige plaatsen en dorpen.

Ekron and its towns and its villages,

46 Van Ekron af naar de zee alle plaatsen met haar dorpen, terzijde van Asjdod;

from Ekron and westward, all that [are] by the side of Ashdod, and their villages.

47 Asjdod en Gaza met beider onderhorige plaatsen en dorpen, tot aan de beek van Egypte; de Grote Zee en de kuststreek waren hier de grens.

Ashdod, its towns and its villages, Gaza, its towns and its villages, to the Brook of Egypt, and the Great Sea, and [its] border.

And in the hill-country: Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh,

49 Danna, Kirjat-Sanna, ook Debir geheten;

59 Maärat, Bet-Anot, Eltekon; zes steden met haar dorpen. Tekóa, Efráta of Betlehem, Peor, Etam, Kolan, Tetam, Sores, Kérem, Gallim, Béter en Menocho; elf steden met haar dorpen.

and Maarath, and Beth-Anoth, and Eltekon; six cities and their villages.

60 Kirjat-Báal, ook Kirjat-Jearim geheten, en Harabba; twee steden met haar dorpen.

Kirjath-Ba‘al (it [is] Kirjath-Jearim), and Rabbah; two cities and their villages.

61 In de woestijn: Bet-Haäraba, Middin, Sekaka,

In the wilderness: Beth-Arabah, Middin, and Secacah,

62 Nibsjan, Ir-Hammélach en En-Gédi; zes steden met haar dorpen.

and Nibshan, and the City of Salt, and En-Gedi; six cities and their villages.

63 Wat de Jeboesieten betreft, die in Jerusalem woonden, hen konden de Judeërs niet uitdrijven, zodat de Jeboesieten tezamen met de Judeërs in Jerusalem wonen tot op de huidige dag.

As for the Jebusites, inhabitants of Jerusalem, the sons of Judah have not been able to dispossess them, and the Jebusite dwells with the sons of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.
