Joël 2
1 Steekt de bazuinen op Sion, Blaast alarm op mijn heilige berg, Zodat alle landbewoners sidderen: Want de Dag van Jahweh komt, is nabij!
Blowe the trumpet in Zion, and shoute in mine holy mountaine: let all the inhabitants of the lande tremble: for the day of the Lord is come: for it is at hand.
2 Een dag van duisternis en donkerte, Een dag van wolken en nevelfloers! Als het morgenrood, Uitgespreid over de bergen, Daagt een volk op, talrijk en machtig, Zoals er vroeger nooit een geweest is, En later nooit meer zal zijn Tot in de verste geslachten.
A day of darkenesse, and of blacknesse, a day of cloudes, and obscuritie, as the morning spred vpon the mountaines, so is there a great people, and a mighty: there was none like it from the beginning, neither shalbe any more after it, vnto the yeeres of many generations.
3 Vóór hen uit verterend vuur, Laaiende vlammen achter hen aan; Vóór hen is de aarde een paradijs, Achter hen een naakte woestijn; Niets blijft er over, Dat hun ontsnapt!
A fire deuoureth before him, and behinde him a flame burneth vp: the land is as the garden of Eden before him, and behinde him a desolate wildernesse, so that nothing shall escape him.
4 Ze lijken op paarden, Als rossen jagen ze voort;
The beholding of him is like the sight of horses, and like the horsemen, so shall they runne.
5 Als rammelende wagens Hotsen ze over de toppen der bergen; Als een knetterende vuurvlam, die de stoppels verteert; Als een geweldige bende, ten strijde gereed!
Like the noyse of charrets in the toppes of the mountaines shall they leape, like the noyse of a flame of fire that deuoureth the stubble, and as a mightie people prepared to the battel.
6 De volken beven voor hen van angst, Alle gezichten verbleken.
Before his face shall the people tremble: all faces shall gather blackenesse.
7 Als krijgshelden stormen ze aan, Beklimmen de muur als oorlogsmannen; Recht gaan ze allen vooruit, En maken geen omweg.
They shall runne like strong men, and goe vp to the wall like men of warre, and euery man shall goe forward in his wayes, and they shall not stay in their paths.
8 De een verdringt den ander niet, Een ieder volgt zijn eigen pad. Ze storten zich op de pijlen in In ongebroken rijen;
Neither shall one thrust another, but euery one shall walke in his path: and when they fall vpon the sword, they shall not be wounded.
9 Ze bestormen de stad, En rennen over de muur. Ze klimmen de huizen binnen, Sluipen als dieven door de vensters:
They shall runne to and from in the citie: they shall runne vpon the wall: they shall clime vp vpon the houses, and enter in at ye windowes like ye thiefe.
10 De aarde bibbert voor hun blikken, De hemel siddert; Zon en maan verduisteren, De sterren verliezen haar glans.
The earth shall tremble before him, ye heauens shall shake, the sunne and the moone shalbe darke, and the starres shall withdraw their shining,
11 Jahweh laat zijn donderstem horen Aan de spits van zijn heir; Want geweldig groot zijn zijn drommen, Machtig, die zijn last volbrengen! Ja, groot is de Dag van Jahweh, En al te hevig! Wie kan het harden?
And the Lord shall vtter his voyce before his hoste: for his hoste is very great: for he is strog that doeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible, and who can abide it?
12 Maar ook nu nog: Is de godsspraak van Jahweh, Keert tot Mij terug met heel uw hart, In vasten, wenen en rouw;
Therefore also now the Lord sayth, Turne you vnto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning,
13 Scheurt uw harten, niet uw kleren, Bekeert u tot Jahweh, uw God! Want Hij is genadig en barmhartig, Lankmoedig, rijk aan ontferming; Een, die spijt heeft over uw rampen.
And rent your heart, and not your clothes: and turne vnto the Lord your God, for he is gratious, and mercifull, slowe to anger, and of great kindnes, and repenteth him of the euill.
14 Wie weet, of ‘t Hem ook nu niet berouwt, En Hij u een zegen laat Tot spijs- en drankoffer voor Jahweh, uw God.
Who knoweth, is he wil returne and repent and leaue a blessing behinde him, euen a meate offring, and a drinke offring vnto ye Lord your God?
15 Blaast de bazuinen op Sion; Schrijft vasten uit, roept de menigte samen!
Blowe the trumpet in Zion, sanctifie a fast, call a solemne assembly.
16 Verzamelt het volk, brengt de schare bijeen, Roept grijzen, en kinderen en zuigelingen op; Laat de bruidegom zijn kamer verlaten, En de bruid haar bruidsvertrek.
Gather the people: sanctifie the congregation, gather the elders: assemble the children, and those that sucke the breastes: let the bridegrome go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her bride chamber.
17 Laat tussen voorhal en altaar De priesters wenen, de dienaars van Jahweh. Laat ze zeggen: Spaar, Jahweh, uw volk; Geef toch uw erfdeel niet prijs aan de schande, Aan de heidenen, die ze knechten! Waarom zou men onder de volken zeggen: Waar is hun God?
Let the Priestes, the ministers of the Lord weepe betweene the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord, and giue not thine heritage into reproche that the heathen should rule ouer them. Wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
18 Nu ijvert Jahweh weer voor zijn land, En spaart Hij zijn volk!
Then will the Lord be ielous ouer his land, and spare his people.
19 Jahweh antwoordt, en spreekt tot zijn volk: Zie, Ik zend u weer koren en wijn, En olie, om u te verzadigen; Niet langer geef Ik u aan de hoon der heidenen prijs!
Yea, the Lord wil answere and say vnto his people, Beholde, I will send you corne, and wine, and oyle, and you shalbe satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproche among the heathen,
20 Den man uit het noorden drijf Ik ver van u weg, Verjaag hem naar een dor en woest land; Zijn voorhoede naar de zee van het oosten; Zijn achterhoede naar de zee van het westen; Stank en verpesting stijgt van hem op Om zijn grootdoenerij.
But I will remooue farre off from you the Northren armie, and I will driue him into a land, barren and desolate with his face toward the East sea, and his end to the vtmost sea, and his stinke shall come vp, and his corruption shall ascend, because he hath exalted himselfe to do this.
21 Vrees niet, akker; wees blij en vol vreugde: Want Jahweh gaat grootse dingen doen!
Feare not, O land, but be glad, and reioyce: for the Lord wil do great things.
22 Vreest niet langer, dieren in het veld: Want de vruchtbare plekken worden weer groen, De bomen dragen weer vrucht, Vijg en wijnstok schenken hun oogst.
Be not afrayde, ye beastes of the fielde: for the pastures of the wildernesse are greene: for the tree beareth her fruite: the figge tree and the vine do giue their force.
23 En gij, kinderen van Sion, jubileert, Verheugt u in Jahweh, uw God! Want dan zal Hij u geven Den Leraar der Gerechtigheid; Dan schenkt Hij u de regen weer, Van na- en voorjaar, zoals eerst.
Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and reioyce in the Lord your God: for he hath giuen you the rayne of righteousnes, he wil cause to come downe for you the rayne, euen the first raine, and the latter raine in the first moneth.
24 Dan worden de dorsvloeren met koren bedekt, Vloeien de perskuipen over van wijn en van olie;
And the barnes shalbe full of wheate, and the presses shall abound with wine and oyle.
25 Dan zal Ik u de jaren vergoeden, Die de sprinkhaan verknaagde: De langpoot, de kaalvreter, de knaagbek, Mijn machtig leger, dat Ik tegen u uitzond.
And I will render you the yeeres that the grashopper hath eaten, the canker worme and the caterpiller and the palmer worme, my great hoste which I sent among you.
26 Dan eet ge volop, en voelt u verzadigd, Looft ge de Naam van Jahweh, uw God, Omdat Hij wonderen voor u deed; En nooit meer wordt mijn volk te schande.
So you shall eate and be satisfied and praise the Name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt marueilously with you: and my people shall neuer be ashamed.
27 Dan weet ge, dat Ik te midden van Israël vertoef, Dat Ik, Jahweh, uw God ben, geen ander!
Ye shall also know, that I am in the middes of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and none other, and my people shall neuer be ashamed.
28 Daarna stort Ik mijn Geest uit over alle vlees: Uw zonen en dochters zullen profeteren, Uw grijsaards zullen dromen ontvangen, Uw jonge mannen visioenen schouwen;
And afterward will I powre out my Spirit vpon all flesh: and your sonnes and your daughters shall prophecie: your olde men shall dreame dreames, and your yong men shall see visions,
29 Zelfs over slaven en slavinnen Stort Ik mijn Geest uit in die dagen!
And also vpon the seruants, and vpon the maydes in those dayes wil I powre my Spirit.
30 Ik zal wonderen doen aan de hemel en op aarde: Bloed en vuur, en walm van rook;
And I will shewe wonders in the heauens and in the earth: blood and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 De zon zal in duisternis verkeren, De maan in bloed; Voordat de Dag van Jahweh komt, Groot en schrikwekkend!
The sunne shalbe turned into darkenesse, and the moone into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.
32 Dan zullen allen worden behouden, Die de Naam van Jahweh aanroepen. Want op de berg Sion En in Jerusalem zal redding zijn; Zoals Jahweh heeft gesproken, En de herauten, die Jahweh riep!
But whosoeuer shall call on the Name of the Lord, shalbe saued: for in mount Zion, and in Ierusale shalbe deliuerance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant, whom the Lord shall call.
