Jeremia 46
1 Het woord van Jahweh tegen de volken, dat tot den profeet Jeremias werd gericht.
The wordes of the Lord, which came to Ieremiah the Prophet against the Gentiles,
2 Over Egypte. Over het leger van den Farao Neko, den koning van Egypte, dat aan de Eufraat bij Karkemisj stond, en dat Nabukodonosor, de koning van Babel, in het vierde jaar van Jojakim, den zoon van Josias en koning van Juda, heeft verslagen.
As against Egypt, against ye armie of Pharaoh Necho King of Egypt, which was by the riuer Perath in Carchemish, which Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel smote in the fourth yere of Iehoiakim the sonne of Iosiah King of Iudah.
3 Klaar met schild en rondas; op, tot de strijd,
Make readie buckler and shielde, and goe forth to battell.
4 De paarden gespannen, de rossen bestegen; In het gelid, de helmen op, De lansen gewet, de pantsers aan!
Make readie the horses, and let the horsemen get vp, and stande vp with your sallets, fourbish the speares, and put on the brigandines.
5 Wat: ze beven, ze wijken; Hun helden worden verslagen, Ze vluchten, zonder om te zien? Verschrikking alom, is de godsspraak van Jahweh!
Wherefore haue I seene them afraid, and driuen backe? for their mighty men are smitten, and are fled away, and looke not backe: for feare was rounde about, sayeth the Lord.
6 Zelfs de vlugge kan niet ontsnappen, De held zich niet redden; In het noorden, aan de oever van de Eufraat, Wankelen ze, en storten ze neer!
The swift shall not flee away, nor the strong man escape: they shall stumble, and fall towarde the North by the riuer Perath.
7 Wie golft daar aan als de Nijl, Als stromen met bruisende wateren?
Who is this, that commeth vp, as a flood, whose waters are mooued like the riuers?
8 Egypte golft aan als de Nijl, Als stromen met klotsende golven! Het roept: Omhoog wil ik stijgen, Om de aarde te overstromen; Ik wil steden vernielen, Met de bewoners er in.
Egypt riseth vp like the flood, and his waters are mooued like the riuers, and he sayth, I wil goe vp, and will couer the earth: I wil destroy the citie with them that dwell therein.
9 Paarden vooruit; wagens raast door, De helden naar voren: Ethiopiërs en Poetiërs, het schild in de hand, Lydiërs, de bogen gespannen en gericht!
Come vp, ye horses, and rage ye charets, and let the valiant men come foorth, the blacke Mores, and the Lybians that beare the shield, and the Lydians that handle and bend the bowe.
10 Maar dit is de dag van den Heer, Van Jahweh der heirscharen: Een dag van vergelding, Om zich te wreken op zijn bestrijders! Het zwaard verslindt, tot zijn honger gestild is, Het drinkt zich zat aan hun bloed; Want Jahweh richt een offer aan In het land van het noorden, aan de Eufraat.
For this is the day of ye Lord God of hostes, and a day of vengeance, that he may auenge him of his enemies: for the sworde shall deuoure, and it shall be saciate, and made drunke with their blood: for the Lord God of hosts hath a sacrifice in the North countrey by the Riuer Perath.
11 Trek op naar Gilad, om balsem te halen, Jonkvrouw, dochter van Egypte! Vergeefs verspilt gij medicijnen; Geen genezing voor u.
Goe vp vnto Gilead, and take balme, O virgine, the daughter of Egypt: in vaine shalt thou vse many medicines: for thou shalt haue no health.
12 De volken horen uw schande, De aarde is vol van uw klagen; Want de ene held is over den ander gestruikeld, En beiden zijn ze gevallen!
The nations haue heard of thy shame, and thy crie hath filled the lande: for the strong hath stumbled against the strong and they are fallen both together.
13 Het woord, dat Jahweh tot den profeet Jeremias sprak over de veldtocht van Nabukodonosor, den koning van Babel, om het land van Egypte te teisteren!
The woorde that the Lord spake to Ieremiah the Prophet, howe Nebuchad-nezzar king of Babel shoulde come and smite the lande of Egypt.
14 Verkondigt het in Egypte, meldt het in Migdol, Bericht het in Nof en Tachpanches; Roept: Stel u te weer, en houd u gereed, Want het zwaard verslindt om u heen!
Publish in Egypt and declare in Migdol, and proclaime in Noph, and in Tahpanhes, and say, Stand still, and prepare thee: for the sworde shall deuoure rounde about thee.
15 Wat: uw sterke gevallen, hij houdt geen stand? Neen, Jahweh heeft hem neergestoten.
Why are thy valiant men put backe? they could not stand, because the Lord did driue them.
16 Ook zijn huurtroepen struikelen en vallen, De een op den ander. Ze roepen: Voort, terug naar ons volk, Naar ons geboorteland voor het moordende zwaard!
Hee made many to fall, and one fell vpon another: and they saide, Arise, let vs goe againe to our owne people, and to the land of our natiuitie from the sworde of the violent.
17 Noemt Farao, den koning van Egypte: "Lawaai, dat zijn tijd liet voorbijgaan!"
They did cry there, Pharaoh King of Egypt, and of a great multitude hath passed the time appointed.
18 Zo waar Ik leef, is de godsspraak des Konings, Jahweh der heirscharen is zijn Naam: Als een Tabor onder de bergen, Als een Karmel aan zee rukt er een aan.
As I liue, saith the King, whose Name is the Lord of hostes, surely as Tabor is in the mountaines, and as Carmel is in the sea: so shall it come.
19 Maak uw pak voor de ballingschap klaar, Bevolking, dochter van Egypte; Want Nof zal een wildernis worden, Vernield en ontvolkt.
O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, make thee geare to goe into captiuitie: for Noph shall be waste and desolate, without an inhabitant.
20 Egypte is een prachtige koe: Maar een horzel uit het noorden valt op haar aan;
Egypt is like a faire calfe, but destruction commeth: out of the North it commeth.
21 Ook op haar troepen in haar land Als op vetgemeste kalveren. Waarachtig, allen lopen ze weg, Ze vluchten heen, en houden geen stand; Want hun onheilsdag is gekomen, De tijd van hun straf!
Also her hired men are in the middes of her like fat calues: they are also turned backe and fled away together: they could not stand, because the day of their destruction was come vpon them, and the time of their visitation.
22 Hoort, als een sissende slang Schuiven ze voort langs het strand; Met bijlen gewapend, Trekken ze als houthakkers op haar af.
The voyce thereof shall goe foorth like a serpent: for they shall march with an armie, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.
23 Ze vellen haar woud, is de godsspraak van Jahweh, Hoe ondoordringbaar het is; Want ze zijn talrijker nog dan een sprinkhanen-zwerm, Ze zijn niet te tellen.
They shall cut downe her forest, saith the Lord: for they cannot be counted, because they are moe then ye grashoppers, and are innumerable.
24 De dochter van Egypte wordt te schande gemaakt, Overgeleverd aan het volk uit het noorden:
The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded: she shall be deliuered into the handes of the people of the North.
25 Jahweh der heirscharen, Israëls God heeft het gezegd! Ik ga Mij wreken op Amon in No, Op Farao en op Egypte, Op zijn goden en vorsten, Op allen, die op hem vertrouwen!
Thus saith the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, Behold, I will visite the common people of No and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods and their Kings, euen Pharaoh, and al them that trust in him,
26 Ik lever ze uit aan wie hun leven belagen, Aan Nabukodonosor, den koning van Babel, en zijn vazallen. Eerst later wordt het weer vredig bewoond Als in vroegere dagen: is de godsspraak van Jahweh!
And I will deliuer them into the handes of those, that seeke their liues, and into the hand of Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel, and into the handes of his seruants, and afterwarde she shall dwell as in the olde time, saith the Lord.
27 Jakob, mijn dienaar, wees niet bang, Israël, gij behoeft niet te vrezen; Want Ik ga u verlossen uit verre gewesten, Uw kroost uit het land hunner ballingschap. Jakob keert terug, en vindt weer zijn rust, Onbekommerd, door niemand verschrikt.
But feare not thou, O my seruant Iaakob, and be not thou afraid, O Israel: for behold, I will deliuer thee from a farre countrey, and thy seede from the land of their captiuitie, and Iaakob shall returne and be in rest, and prosperitie, and none shall make him afraid.
28 Jakob, mijn dienaar, wees niet bang; want Ik ben met u, spreekt Jahweh! Ja, Ik ga alle volken vernielen, Waaronder Ik u heb verstrooid. Maar u zal Ik nimmer vernielen; Ik tuchtig u enkel, zoals ge verdient; Neen, Ik laat u niet ongestraft!
Feare thou not, O Iaakob my seruant, saith the Lord: for I am with thee, and I will vtterly destroy all the nations, whither I haue driuen thee: but I will not vtterly destroy thee, but correct thee by iudgement, and not vtterly cut thee off.
