Jesaja 2
The word that Isaiah, the son of Amoz, saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 Maar op het einde der tijden zal de Berg van Jahweh’s tempel boven de toppen der bergen staan, zich verheffen boven de heuvels. Alle volken stromen er heen,
And in the last days, the mountain of the house of the Lord will be prepared at the summit of the mountains, and it will be exalted above the hills, and all the nations shall flow to it.
3 Talloze naties maken zich op. Komt, zeggen ze, trekken we naar de Berg van Jahweh, Naar het huis van Jakobs God: Hij zal ons zijn wegen doen kennen, Wij zullen zijn paden betreden. Want uit Sion komt de wet, Uit Jerusalem Jahweh’s woord.
And many peoples will go, and they will say: “Let us approach and ascend to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob. And he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion, and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 Hij zal tussen de volkeren scheidsrechter zijn, En recht verschaffen aan machtige naties: Dan smeden ze hun zwaarden tot ploegijzers om, En hun lansen tot sikkels; Geen volk trekt zijn zwaard meer tegen een ander, En niemand oefent zich voor de strijd.
And he will judge the nations, and he will rebuke many peoples. And they shall forge their swords into plowshares, and their spears into sickles. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they continue to train for battle.
5 Op, huis van Jakob; Laat ons wandelen in Jahweh’s licht!
O house of Jacob, let us approach and walk in the light of the Lord.
6 Maar Jahweh heeft zijn volk verstoten, Het huis van Jakob. Want het is vol van waarzeggerij uit het oosten, Vol tovenaars als Filistea; En van de kinderen der barbaren Is het geheel overstroomd.
For you have cast aside your people, the house of Jacob, because they have been filled up, as in past times, and because they have had soothsayers as the Philistines have, and because they have joined themselves to foreign servants.
7 Hun land is vol zilver en goud: Geen eind aan hun schatten; Hun land is vol paarden: Geen eind aan hun wagens;
Their land has been filled with silver and gold. And there is no end to their storehouses.
8 Hun land is vol goden: Geen eind aan hun beelden; Ze werpen zich neer voor het werk hunner handen, Voor hun eigen maaksel.
And their land has been filled with horses. And their four-horse chariots are innumerable. And their land has been filled with idols. They have adored the work of their hands, which their own fingers have made.
9 Maar die mensen worden te schande, Die mannen vernederd, nooit staan ze meer op!
And man has bowed himself down, and so man has become debased. Therefore, you should not forgive them.
10 Ze sluipen weg in de rotsen, en kruipen diep in de grond, Uit angst voor Jahweh, en de glans van zijn luister.
Enter into the rock, and hide in a ditch in the soil, from the presence of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty.
11 De trotse blik van die mensen moet neer, De hoogmoed dier mannen gebroken: Hoog verheven blijft Jahweh alleen Op die dag!
The lofty eyes of man have been humbled, and the haughtiness of men will be bowed down. Then the Lord alone shall be exalted, in that day.
12 Want de dag van Jahweh der heirscharen komt Tegen al wat verwaand is en trots; Tegen al wat zich opheft, Wat hoog is zal vallen.
For the day of the Lord of hosts will prevail over all the proud and self-exalted, and over all the arrogant, and each one shall be humbled,
13 Tegen alle rijzige Libanon-ceders, En alle hoge eiken van Basjan;
and over all the straight and tall cedars of Lebanon, and over all the oaks of Bashan;
14 Tegen alle reusachtige bergen, En alle geweldige heuvels.
and over all the lofty mountains, and over all the elevated hills;
15 Tegen alle machtige torens, En alle ongenaakbare wallen;
and over every lofty tower, and over every fortified wall;
16 Tegen alle schepen van Tarsjisj, En alle fiere galjoenen.
and over all the ships of Tarshish, and over all the beauty that may be seen.
17 Dan wordt de trots van die mensen gebroken, De hoogmoed dier mannen vernederd: Hoog verheven blijft Jahweh alleen Op die dag!
And the loftiness of men will be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men will be brought low. And the Lord alone shall be exalted, in that day.
18 Ook de goden zullen allen verdwijnen,
And idols will be thoroughly crushed.
19 Wegsluipen in de spelonken en in de holen der aarde, Uit angst voor Jahweh en de glans van zijn luister, Als Hij opstaat, om de aarde met ontzetting te slaan.
And they will go into the caves of the rocks, and into the caverns of the earth, from the presence of the dread of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he will have risen up to strike the earth.
20 En op die dag gooien de mensen Hun zilveren goden weg met hun goden van goud, Die ze maakten om ze te aanbidden: Weg, voor de ratten en muizen.
In that day, man shall cast aside his idols of silver and his images of gold, which he had made for himself, as if to reverence the moles and the bats.
21 Als ge dan wegsluipt in de spelonken En in de spleten der klippen, Uit angst voor Jahweh en de glans van zijn luister, Als Hij opstaat, om de aarde met ontzetting te slaan:
And so he will go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the caverns of stone, from the presence of the dread of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he will have risen up to strike the earth.
22 Dan moet ge wel ophouden, Op mensen te steunen, Die enkel in hun neus wat adem hebben; Wat zouden ze dan voor waarde bezitten?
Therefore, rest away from man, whose breath is in his nostrils, for he considers himself to be exalted.
