Hosea 5

1 Luistert nu, priesters; Huis van Israël, let op; Huis des konings, hoort toe: Want u geldt het vonnis! Want gij zijt een strik voor Mispa geworden, Een net over de Tabor gespannen,

Hear this, O ye priests, and attend, ye house of Israel, and give ear, O house of the king, for unto you pertaineth the judgment; for ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.

2 Een diepe groeve voor Sjittim: Maar Ik zal u allen een gesel zijn!

And they that fall away are gone deep in making slaughter; and I am rejected of them all.

3 Efraïm ligt voor Mij open, En Israël kan zich voor Mij niet verbergen: Gij, Efraïm, hebt ontucht bedreven, En Israël heeft zich bezoedeld.

I, even I, know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from Me; for now, O Ephraim, thou hast committed harlotry, Israel is defiled.

4 Hun daden zijn er niet op gericht, Om zich tot hun God te bekeren; Want een geest van ontucht heerst in hun midden, En Jahweh kennen ze niet!

Their doings will not suffer them to return unto their God; for the spirit of harlotry is within them, and they know not the LORD.

5 De onbeschaamdheid Ligt Israël op het gelaat; Efraïm komt door zijn eigen misdaad ten val, Ook Juda struikelt met hem.

But the pride of Israel shall testify to his face; and Israel and Ephraim shall stumble in their iniquity, Judah also shall stumble with them.

6 Met hun schapen en vee Willen ze Jahweh gaan zoeken; Maar ze vinden Hem niet: Hij onttrekt zich aan hen.

With their flocks and with their herds they shall go to seek the LORD, but they shall not find Him; He hath withdrawn Himself from them.

7 Want ze hebben hun trouw aan Jahweh gebroken, En bastaardkinderen verwekt; Nu zal de verdelger ze verslinden, Henzelf en hun akkers.

They have dealt treacherously against the LORD, for they have begotten strange children; now shall the new moon devour them with their portions.

8 Blaast de bazuin in Giba, De trompet in Rama; Schreeuwt het uit in Bet-Awen, Schrikt Benjamin op!

Blow ye the horn in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah; sound an alarm at Beth-aven: 'Behind thee, O Benjamin!'

9 Efraïm zal een wildernis worden, Op de dag der kastijding; De stammen Israëls kondig Ik aan Wat vast is besloten.

Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke; among the tribes of Israel do I make known that which shall surely be.

10 De vorsten van Juda zijn grenzenvervalsers; Als water stort Ik mijn gramschap over hen uit.

The princes of Judah are like them that remove the landmark; I will pour out My wrath upon them like water.

11 Efraïm verdrukt en verkracht het recht, Want hunkerend loopt hij het bederf achterna!

Oppressed is Ephraim, crushed in his right; because he willingly walked after filth.

12 Voor Efraïm zal Ik zijn als de mot, Voor het huis van Juda als wormsteek!

Therefore am I unto Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness.

13 Efraïm zal zijn broosheid bemerken, Juda zijn etterende wonde. Efraïm zal zich tot Assjoer wenden, Juda gezanten zenden naar "Grote Koning"; Maar die zal u niet kunnen genezen, Uw wonde niet helen.

And when Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to King Contentious; but he is not able to heal you, neither shall he cure you of your wound.

14 Want Ik zal voor Efraïm zijn als de leeuw, Als een leeuwenwelp voor het huis van Juda. Ik zal ze verscheuren, dan loop Ik heen; Ik sleep ze weg, en niemand, die Mij mijn prooi ontrukt. Dan keer Ik terug naar mijn plaats,

For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah; I, even I, will tear and go away, I will take away, and there shall be none to deliver.

15 Totdat ze boete doen, mijn aangezicht zoeken, En hunkeren naar Mij in hun nood:

I will go and return to My place, till they acknowledge their guilt, and seek My face; in their trouble they will seek Me earnestly:
