Deuteronomium 10
1 In die tijd sprak Jahweh tot mij: Houw u twee stenen tafelen, zoals de vorige, en kom tot Mij op de berg, na u een ark van hout te hebben vervaardigd.
At that time the Lord said unto me, Hew for thyself two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount; and make thyself an ark of wood.
2 Dan zal Ik op die tafelen de geboden schrijven, die op de vorige stonden, welke gij hebt verbrijzeld; leg die dan in de ark.
And I will write on the tables the words that were on the first tables which thou hast broken; and thou shalt put them in the ark.
3 Ik maakte een ark van sjittimhout, hieuw twee stenen tafelen, gelijk aan de vorige, en besteeg de berg met de beide tafelen in mijn hand.
And I made an ark of shittim-wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and I went up into the mount, with the two tables in my hand.
4 En Jahweh schreef op de tafelen de tien geboden, die Hij er vroeger op had geschreven, en die Hij op de berg uit het vuur aan u had gegeven, toen Hij u bijeen had geroepen. Toen Jahweh ze mij had overgereikt,
And he wrote on the tables, like the first writing, the ten commandments, which the Lord had spoken unto you on the mount out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly; and the Lord gave them unto me.
5 keerde ik om, daalde van de berg af, en legde de tafelen in de ark, die ik gemaakt had; daar bleven zij liggen, zoals Jahweh het mij had bevolen.
And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and I put the tables in the ark which I had made; and they have remained there, as the Lord hath commanded me.
6 De Israëlieten trokken van Beërot-Bene-Jaäkan verder naar Mosera. Daar stierf Aäron en werd hij begraven; zijn zoon Elazar werd priester in zijn plaats.
And the children of Israel took their journey from the wells of the children of Ya'akan to Mosserah: there Aaron died, and he was buried there; and Elazar his son became priest in his stead.
7 Vandaar trokken zij verder naar Goedgóda, en van Goedgóda naar Jotbáta, een land met waterbeken.
From there they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Yotbatha, a land of brooks of waters.
8 In die tijd zonderde Jahweh de stam van Levi af, om de verbondsark van Jahweh te dragen, om voor het aanschijn van Jahweh te staan, zijn dienst te verrichten en in zijn Naam te zegenen, zoals tot op heden gebeurt.
At that time did the Lord separate the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.
9 Daarom heeft Levi geen deel en geen erfenis met zijn broeders; want Jahweh is zijn erfdeel, zoals Jahweh, uw God, het hem heeft beloofd.
Therefore was not assigned unto Levi any portion or inheritance with his brethren: the Lord is his inheritance, as the Lord thy God hath spoken to him.
10 Toen ik dan evenals vroeger veertig dagen en veertig nachten op de berg was gebleven, verhoorde mij Jahweh ook deze keer; Jahweh heeft u niet willen verdelgen.
And I stayed on the mount, like the first days, forty days and forty nights; and the Lord hearkened unto me also at that time, the Lord would not destroy thee.
11 Maar Jahweh sprak tot mij: Sta op, trek op aan de spits van het volk; dan kunnen ze het land in bezit gaan nemen, dat Ik hun vaderen onder ede beloofd heb, hun te geven.
And the Lord said unto me, Arise, go on the journey before the people, that they may go in and take possession of the land, which I have sworn unto their fathers to give unto them.
12 Nu dan Israël, wat vraagt Jahweh, uw God, anders van u, dan dat gij Jahweh, uw God vreest, dat gij al zijn wegen bewandelt en Hem bemint, dat gij Jahweh, uw God, met heel uw hart en heel uw ziel dient,
And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
13 en de geboden en bepalingen van Jahweh onderhoudt, die ik u heden geef, opdat het u goed moge gaan?
To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day, for thy own good?
14 Waarachtig, aan Jahweh, uw God, behoren de hemel met de hemel der hemelen, en de aarde met al wat daarop is;
Behold, to the Lord thy God belong the heavens and the heavens of heavens, and the earth with all that is thereon;
15 maar toch heeft Jahweh slechts in uw vaderen zijn welbehagen gesteld, en hen zo liefgehad, dat Hij u, hun nageslacht, uit alle volken heeft uitverkoren, zoals heden geschied is.
Yet only in thy fathers had the Lord delight, to love them; he chose, therefore, their seed after them, namely you, from all the nations, as it is this day.
16 Besnijdt daarom de voorhuid uws harten, en weest niet langer hardnekkig!
Remove therefore the obduracy of your heart, and be no more stiff-necked.
17 Want Jahweh, uw God, is de God der goden en de Heer der heren: de grote, sterke en ontzagwekkende God, die geen aanzien des persoons kent, en geen geschenken aanvaardt.
For the Lord your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who hath no regard to persons, and taketh no bribe;
18 Hij verschaft recht aan wees en weduwe, Hij bemint den vreemdeling, zodat Hij hem voedsel en kleding verschaft.
Who executeth justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loveth the stranger, to give him food and raiment.
19 Bemint dus den vreemdeling; want zelf waart gij vreemdeling in het land van Egypte.
Love ye then the stranger; for you have been strangers in the land of Egypt.
20 Vrees Jahweh, uw God; dien Hem, hecht u aan Hem, en zweer alleen bij zijn Naam.
The Lord thy God shalt thou fear: him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and by his name shalt thou swear.
21 Hij is uw glorie, Hij is uw God, die voor u die machtige en ontzagwekkende dingen gewrocht heeft, welke gij met eigen ogen aanschouwd hebt.
He is thy praise, and he is thy God, who hath done for thee these great and fearful things, which thy own eyes have seen.
22 Met zeventig personen zakten uw vaderen af naar Egypte, en nu heeft Jahweh, uw God, u talrijk gemaakt als de sterren aan de hemel.
With seventy persons did thy fathers go down into Egypt; and now the Lord thy God hath made thee like the stars of heaven in multitude.
