Amos 6
1 Wee de zorgelozen van Sion, De onbezorgden van Samaria’s gebergte! Bezoekt de keur der oudste volken, huis van Israël:
Woe to those that are free from care in Zion, and that are in safety on the mount of Samaria, who are named the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!
2 Trekt naar Kalne en stelt een onderzoek in; Gaat vandaar naar het machtige Chamat, Daalt af naar Gat der Filistijnen! Zijt gij beter dan die rijken, Is ùw gebied groter dan het hunne?
Pass ye over unto Calneh, and see; and go from there to Chamath-rabbah; then go down to Gath of the Philistines: whether they be better than these kingdoms? or whether their territory be greater than your territory?
3 De dag van onheil houden zij ver van zich af, Maar de zetel van geweld dicht bij:
[Ye] that deem far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
4 Ze leggen zich op ivoren rustbedden neer, Strekken zich lui op hun rustbanken uit; Ze eten de lammeren van hun kudde, En de kalveren van hun stal;
That lie upon beds of ivory, and are stretched out upon their couches, and eat lambs out of the flock, and calves out of the midst of the stall;
5 Ze zingen als David bij het ruisen der harp, En denken allerlei liederen uit!
That chant to the sound of the psaltery, and like David's do they imagine their instrument of music to be;
6 Ze drinken de allerfijnste wijn, En zalven zich met de geurigste olie; Maar ze bekreunen zich niet Om de ruïne van Josef!
That drink out of wine-bowls, and anoint themselves with the costliest of ointments; but who feel no pain for the wound of Joseph.
7 Daarom gaan ze nu de ballingschap in, In de voorste rijen der ballingen; Het is uit met de bent van die slempers:
Therefore now shall they go into exile at the head of exiles, and the noisy banquet of those that were stretched out shall pass away.
8 Is de godsspraak van Jahweh! Jahweh, de Heer, heeft bij Zichzelf gezworen, Der heirscharen God: Ik verfoei de hoogmoed van Jakob, En haat zijn paleizen; De stad geef Ik prijs Met al wat er in is;
The Lord Eternal hath sworn by his own existence, saith the Lord the God of hosts, I abhor the pride of Jacob, and his palaces do I hate: therefore will I surrender up [to the enemy] the city with all that filleth it.
9 En al waren tien mannen overgebleven, In één huis bijeen: ook zij zullen sterven!
And it shall come to pass, that if there remain ten men in one house, they shall die.
10 En als hun verwanten of doodgravers ze halen, Om de beenderen uit het huis te ruimen, Dan zal de een tot den ander roepen, Die achter in huis is: Zijn er bij u soms nog meer? En als hij antwoordt: Niemand meer! Dan zal de eerste zeggen: Zwijg stil; De Naam van Jahweh niet uitgeroepen!
And should a man's uncle or relative carry him forth, to bring out the bones out of the house, and say unto him that is in the recesses of the house, Is there yet any one with thee? he will say, There is no one left. Then will he say, Be silent; for we may not make mention of the name of the Lord.
11 Waarachtig, Jahweh heeft het bevel al gegeven: De huizen zal Hij vernielen, De grote tot gruizel De kleine tot splinters!
For, behold, the Lord commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
12 Of kunnen paarden op klippen rennen, En kan men de zee met buffels beploegen: Maar gij hebt het recht in gif veranderd, De vrucht der gerechtigheid in alsem!
Do horses ever run upon the rock? or will one plough there with oxen? that ye have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood;
13 Ge maakt u blij met Lo-Debar, En zegt: Hebben we niet door eigen macht Karnáim veroverd?
Ye who rejoice for a thing of naught, who say, Have we not through our own strength procured ourselves horns?
14 Zie, Ik laat een volk op u los, Huis van Israël, Dat u verdrukt van Chamat af, Tot de beek der Araba toe: Is de godsspraak van Jahweh, der heirscharen God!
For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lord the God of hosts, and they shall oppress you from the entrance of Chamath unto the brook of the wilderness.
