2 Samuël 17
1 Daarop stelde Achitófel aan Absalom voor: Laat mij met twaalfduizend uitgelezen manschappen vannacht nog de achtervolging van David beginnen.
Therfor Achitofel seide to Absolon, Y schal chese twelue thousynde of men `to me, and Y schal rise, and pursue Dauid in this nyyt.
2 Door hem te overvallen, als hij nog uitgeput en krachteloos is, jaag ik hem schrik op het lijf; heel zijn aanhang zal vluchten en ik hoef alleen met den koning af te rekenen.
And Y schal falle on hym, for he is wery, and with vnboundun hondis Y schal smyte hym. And whanne al the puple fleeth which is with hym, Y schal smyte the kyng `desolat, ether left aloone.
3 Dan zal ik maken, dat al het volk zich tot u keert, zoals een bruid terugkeert tot haar man; zo kost het alleen het leven van den enen man dien ge zoekt, en blijft al het volk behouden!
And Y schal lede ayen al the puple, as o man is wont to turne ayen; for thou sekist o man, and al the puple schal be in pees.
4 Ofschoon dit voorstel de goedkeuring wegdroeg van Absalom en van alle oudsten in Israël,
And the word of him plesyde Absolon, and alle the grete men in birthe of Israel.
5 zeide Absalom toch: Roep ook Choesjai, den Arkiet, en laat ons eens horen, wat ook hij heeft te zeggen.
Forsothe Absolon seide, Clepe ye also Chusy of Arath, and here we what also he seith.
6 Choesjai werd dus bij Absalom toegelaten, en Absalom zeide tot hem: Zo en zo is het voorstel van Achitófel. Moeten we zijn plan uitvoeren? Zo niet, doe gij dan een voorstel.
And whanne Chusi hadde come to Absolon, Absolon seide to hym. Achitofel spak siche a word; owen we do, ethir nay? what counsel yyuest thou?
7 Nu sprak Choesjai tot Absalom: Ditmaal is het geen goede raad, die Achitófel gegeven heeft.
And Chusi seide to Absolon, This is not good counsel, which Achitofel yaf in this tyme.
8 En Choesjai vervolgde: Gij weet, dat uw vader en zijn manschappen dappere mannen zijn, en thans verbeten als een loslopende berin, die haar jongen kwijt is. Bovendien is uw vader een ervaren krijger, die met het volk niet in de open lucht overnacht.
And eft Chusi seide, Thou knowist, that thi fadir, and the men that ben with him, ben moost stronge, and in bitter soule, as if a femal bere is fers in the forest, whanne the whelpis ben rauyschid; but also thi fader is a man werriour, and he schal not dwelle with the puple.
9 Hij heeft zich nu beslist in een of andere grot of plaats verdekt opgesteld. Er kunnen dus aanstonds enige slachtoffers vallen; en dan zal men het vernemen en zeggen, dat de aanhang van Absalom een grote nederlaag heeft geleden.
In hap now he is hid in the dichis, ethir in o place, in which he wole; and whanne ony man fallith in the bigynnyng, who euer schal here, he schal here, and schal seie, Wounde is maad in the puple that suede Absolon.
10 En al is men dan nog zo dapper, en heeft men het hart van een leeuw, dan zal men toch zeker de moed verliezen. Want heel Israël weet, dat uw vader een held is, en zijn medestrijders dappere mannen.
And ech strongeste man, whos herte is as `the herte of a lioun, schal be discoumfortid for drede; for al the puple of Israel knowith, that thi fadir is strong, and that alle men ben stronge, that ben with him.
11 Neen, mijn raad is deze: Laat heel Israël van Dan tot Beër-Sjéba zich rond u verzamelen, zo talrijk als het zand aan de zee, en trek in eigen persoon met hen op.
But this semeth to me to be riytful counsel; al Israel be gaderid to thee, fro Dan `til to Bersabee, vnnoumbrable as the soond of the see; and thou schalt be in the myddis of hem.
12 Dan overvallen we hem op de plaats, waar we hem treffen, strijken we op hem neer als de dauw op de grond, en laten van hem en zijn manschappen geen enkele over.
And we schulen falle on hym, in what euer place he is foundun, and we schulen hile hym, as dew is wont to falle on the erthe; and we schulen not leeue of the men that ben with hym, `sotheli not oon.
13 En trekt hij zich terug in een stad, welnu, dan zal heel Israël touwen binden aan die stad, en slepen we haar naar de stroom, totdat er geen steen meer van over is.
`That if he entrith in to ony citee, al Israel schal cumpasse that citee with roopis, and we schulen drawe it in to the stronde, that no thing be foundun, sotheli not a litil stoon therof.
14 Toen zeiden Absalom en alle Israëlieten: De raad van Choesjai, den Arkiet, is beter dan die van Achitófel. Want Jahweh had het beschikt, dat de goede raad van Achitófel verijdeld werd. Hij wilde Absalom in het ongeluk storten.
And Absolon seide, and alle the men of Israel, The counsel of Chusi of Arath is betere than the counsel of Achitofel; sotheli the profitable counsel of Achitofel was destried bi Goddis wille, that the Lord schulde brynge in yuel on Absolon.
15 Nu liet Choesjai aan de priesters Sadok en Ebjatar zeggen: Die en die raad heeft Achitófel aan Absalom en de oudsten van Israël gegeven, en zo en zo heb ik geraden.
And Chusi seide to Sadoch and to Abiathar, preestis, Achitofel yaf counsel to Absolon, and to the eldere men of Israel in this and this maner, and Y yaf sich and sich counsel.
16 Laat nu zo vlug mogelijk aan David berichten, dat hij de nacht niet moet doorbrengen bij de overgangen naar de woestijn, maar dat hij er dadelijk over moet trekken; anders wordt de koning met heel zijn aanhang vernietigd.
Now therfor sende ye soone, and telle ye to Dauid, and seie ye, Dwelle thou not this nyyt in the feeldi places of deseert, but passe thou with out delay; lest perauenture the kyng be destried, and al the puple which is with hym.
17 Intussen stonden Jehonatan en Achimáas bij de bron Rogel te wachten. Een dienstmaagd bracht hun de boodschap over, die ze aan koning David moesten brengen; want daar ze zich niet mochten vertonen, konden ze de stad niet binnengaan.
Forsothe Jonathas and Achymaas stoden bisidis the welle of Rogel; an handmaide yede, and telde to hem, and thei yeden forth to telle the message to kyng Dauid; for thei myyten not be seyn, nether entre in to the citee.
18 Toch had een jongen hen opgemerkt, en het aan Absalom bericht. Ze maakten beiden dus gauw, dat ze wegkwamen. Ze vluchtten in het huis van iemand in Bachoerim, die in zijn hof een put had; daar kropen ze in.
Forsothe a child siy hem, and he schewide to Absolon; sotheli thei entriden with swift goyng in to the hows of `sum man in Bahurym, that hadde a pit in his place, and thei yeden doun in to that pit.
19 En de vrouw nam een dekkleed, spreidde het uit over de put, en strooide er graankorrels op, zodat er niets van te merken viel.
Forsothe a womman took, and spred abrood an hilyng of the mouth of the pit as driynge `barli with the pile takun a wey, and so the thing was hid.
20 Toen dan ook de dienaren van Absalom bij de vrouw binnen kwamen, en vroegen, waar Achimáas en Jehonatan waren, zeide de vrouw: Die zijn de bergstroom overgestoken! Ze gingen op zoek; maar toen ze niets vonden, keerden ze naar Jerusalem terug.
And whanne the seruauntis of Absolon hadde come in to the hows, thei seiden to the womman, Where is Achymaas and Jonathas? And the womman answeride to hem, Thei passiden hastily, whanne `watir was tastid a litil. And whanne thei that souyten hem hadden not founde, thei turneden ayen in to Jerusalem.
21 Nadat zij waren afgetrokken, klommen ze uit de put, en gingen koning David de boodschap overbrengen. Ze zeiden tot David: Rukt op en trekt vlug het water over; want die en die raad heeft Achitófel omtrent u gegeven.
And whanne thei `that souyten hadden go, thei stieden fro the pit; and thei yeden, and telden to kyng Dauid, and seiden, Rise ye, passe ye soone the flood, for Achitofel yaf sich counsel ayens you.
22 David rukte dus op met heel zijn aanhang; zij staken de Jordaan over, en bij het aanbreken van de morgen waren allen aan de overkant, tot den laatsten man.
Therfor Dauid roos, and al the puple that was with hym, and thei passiden Jordan, til it was cleer dai, bifor that the word was pupplischid; and sotheli not oon was left, that `passide not the flood.
23 Toen Achitófel bemerkte, dat zijn raad niet werd opgevolgd, zadelde hij zijn ezel en begaf zich op weg naar huis in zijn woonplaats. Daar stelde hij orde op zijn zaken en hing zich op. Zo stierf Achitófel; hij werd begraven in het graf van zijn vader.
Forsothe Achitofel siy, that his counsel was not doon, and he sadlide his asse, and roos, and yede in to his hows, and in to his citee; and whanne his hows was disposid, he perischide bi hangyng, and he was biried in the sepulcre of his fadir.
24 Zo was David reeds te Machanáim aangekomen, toen Absalom de Jordaan overstak, met alle Israëlieten, die hem volgden.
Sotheli Dauid cam in to the castels, and Absolon passide Jordan, he and alle the men of Israel with hym.
25 In plaats van Joab had Absalom Amasa over het leger aangesteld. Deze Amasa was de zoon van een Isjmaëliet, die Jitra heette, en zich verenigd had met Abigal, de dochter van Nachasj, de zuster van Seroeja, de moeder van Joab.
Forsothe Absolon ordeynede Amasan for Joab on the oost; forsothe Amasan was the sone of a man that was clepid Jethra of Jeyrael, which entride to Abigail, douyter of Naas, the sistir of Saruye, that was the modir of Joab.
26 En de Israëlieten, die Absalom volgden, sloegen hun kamp op in het land Gilad.
And Israel settide tentis with Absolon in the lond of Galaad.
27 Toen David te Machanáim was aangekomen, brachten Sjobi, een zoon van Nachasj uit Rabba der Ammonieten, en Makir, een zoon van Ammiël uit Lo-Debar, en Barzillai, de Giladiet uit Rogelim,
And whanne Dauid hadde come in to castels, Sobi, the sone of Naas of Rabath, of the sones of Amon, and Machir, the sone of Amyel, of Lodobar, and Berzellai, of Galaad,
28 rustbedden en dekens, schalen en aardewerk, tarwe en gerst, bloem en geroosterd graan, bonen en linzen,
of Rogelym, brouyten to hym beddyngis, and tapitis, and erthun vessels, wheete, and barli, and mele, and flour, and benys, and lente, and fried chichis, and hony,
29 honing en boter, en kaas van schapen en koeien. Ze boden het aan als proviand voor David en zijn aanhangers; want ze zeiden: Het volk zal in de woestijn hongerig, uitgeput en dorstig geworden zijn.
and botere, and scheep, and fatte calues. And thei yauen to Dauid, and to the puple that weren with hym, to ete; for thei supposiden the puple to be maad feynt for hungur and thirst in deseert.
