1 Samuël 15
1 Eens sprak Samuël tot Saul: Jahweh heeft mij gezonden, om u tot koning te zalven over mijn volk Israël; luister dus naar Jahweh’s bevel.
And Samuel seide to Saul, The Lord sente me, that Y schulde anoynte thee in to `kyng on his puple Israel; now therfor here thou the vois `of the Lord.
2 Zo spreekt Jahweh der heirscharen! Ik wil wreken, wat Amalek tegen Israël heeft misdreven, door Israël de weg te versperren, toen het optrok uit Egypte.
The Lord of oostis seith thes thingis, Y haue rikenyd what euer thingis Amalech dide to Israel; hou Amalech ayenstood Israel in the weie, whanne he stiede from Egipt.
3 Daarom moet ge Amalek gaan verslaan, en alles wat hem toebehoort met de banvloek treffen; zonder genade moet ge mannen en vrouwen, kinderen en zuigelingen, runderen en schapen, ezels en kamelen doden.
Now therfor go thou, and sle Amalech, and distruye thou alle `thingis of hym; spare thou not hym, and coueyte thou not ony thing of hise thingis; but sle thou fro man `til to womman, and a litil child, and soukynge, an oxe, and scheep, and camel, and asse.
4 Saul riep dus het volk op, en monsterde het in Télam: tweehonderdduizend man voetvolk en tienduizend Judeërs.
Therfor Saul comaundide to the puple, and he noumbride hem as lambren twei hundrid thousynde of foot men, and ten thousynde of men of Juda.
5 Hij kwam voor de hoofdstad van Amalek, legde zich in een dal in hinderlaag,
And whanne Saul cam to the citee of Amalech, he made redi buyschementis in the stronde.
6 en liet aan de Kenieten zeggen: Gaat hier vandaan, trekt u terug en verwijdert u uit Amalek; anders zou ik u tegelijk met hen kunnen treffen, terwijl gij toch de Israëlieten genadig hebt behandeld, toen zij uit Egypte trokken. Zodra de Kenieten zich van Amalek hadden verwijderd,
And Saul seide to Cyney, Go ye, departe ye, and go ye awei fro Amalech, lest perauenture Y wlappe thee in with hem; for thou didist mercy with alle the sones of Israel, whanne thei stieden fro Egipt. And Cyney departide fro the myddis of Amalech.
7 versloeg Saul de Amalekieten van Chawila af tot Sjoer, dat oostelijk van Egypte ligt.
And Saul smoot Amalech fro Euila, til thou come to Sur, which is ayens Egipt.
8 Agag, den koning van Amalek, nam hij levend gevangen, en aan de gehele bevolking voltrok hij de banvloek met het zwaard.
And he took Agag quyke, the kyng of Amalech; sotheli he killide bi the scharpnesse of swerd alle the comyn puple.
9 Maar Saul en het volk spaarden Agag met de beste schapen en runderen, met mestvee en lammeren, met alles wat waarde had, en wilden die niet met de banvloek treffen; alleen het waardeloze en verlopen vee gaven ze aan de banvloek prijs.
And Saul and the puple sparide Agag, and the beste flockis of scheep, and of grete beestis, and clothis, and rammes, and alle thingis that weren faire; and thei nolden destrie tho; sotheli what euer thing was vijl, and repreuable, thei distrieden this.
10 Toen werd het woord van Jahweh tot Samuël gericht:
Forsothe the word of the Lord was maad to Samuel,
11 Het berouwt Mij, dat Ik Saul tot koning heb aangesteld; want hij heeft zich van Mij afgewend en mijn bevelen niet ten uitvoer gebracht. Diep bedroefd bad Samuël heel de nacht tot Jahweh.
and seide, It repentith me, that Y made Saul kyng; for he forsook me, and fillide not my wordis in werk. And Samuel was sory, and he criede to the Lord in al the nyyt.
12 Toen hij echter de volgende morgen Saul wilde ontmoeten, ontving hij de tijding, dat Saul naar Karmel gegaan was, en zich daar een gedenkteken had opgericht; dat hij vandaar was opgebroken, verder gereisd, en naar Gilgal was vertrokken.
And whanne Samuel hadde rise bi nyyt to go eerly to Saul, it was teld to Samuel, that Saul hadde come in to Carmel, and hadde reisid to hym a signe of victorye; and that he hadde turned ayen, and hadde passid, and hadde go doun in to Galgala. Therfor Samuel cam to Saul, and Saul offride brent sacrifice to the Lord of the cheef thingis of preies, whiche he hadde brouyt fro Amalech.
13 Toen Samuël bij Saul gekomen was, sprak Saul tot hem: Wees gezegend door Jahweh; het bevel van Jahweh heb ik volbracht.
And the while Samuel cam to Saul, Saul seide to hym, Blessid be thou of the Lord, Y haue fillid the `word of the Lord.
14 Maar Samuël vroeg: Wat betekent dan dat geblaat van schapen in mijn oren en het geloei van runderen, dat ik verneem?
And Samuel seide, And what is the vois of flockis, that sowneth in myn eeris, and of grete beestis, whiche Y here?
15 Saul antwoordde: Die zijn van Amalek meegebracht. Want het volk heeft de beste schapen en runderen gespaard, om ze te offeren aan Jahweh, uw God; de rest echter hebben we met de banvloek geslagen.
And Saul seide, Thei brouyten tho fro Amalech, for the puple sparide the betere scheep and grete beestis, that tho schulden be offrid to thi Lord God; sotheli we killiden the tothere beestis.
16 Nu sprak Samuël tot Saul: Zwijg! Ik zal u verkondigen, wat Jahweh deze nacht tot mij heeft gezegd. Hij antwoordde hem: Spreek!
Forsothe Samuel seide to Saul, Suffre thou me, and Y schal schewe to thee what thingis the Lord spak to me in the nyyt. And he seide to Samuel, Speke thou.
17 En Samuël sprak: Zijt ge niet aan het hoofd van Israëls stammen komen staan, ofschoon ge klein waart in uw eigen ogen? Jahweh heeft u gezalfd tot koning over Israël.
And Samuel seide, Whether not, whanne thou were litil in thin iyen, thou were maade heed in the lynages of Israel, and the Lord anoyntide thee in to kyng on Israel;
18 Maar Jahweh heeft u ook uitgezonden en bevolen: Trek op, sla de Amalekieten, die zondaars, met de banvloek, en strijd tegen hen, totdat ge ze hebt uitgeroeid.
and the Lord sente thee in to the weie, and seide, Go thou, and sle the synneris of Amalech, and thou schalt fiyte ayens hem `til to sleyng of hem.
19 Waarom hebt ge dan niet geluisterd naar het bevel van Jahweh, maar hebt ge u op de buit gestort, en kwaad gedaan in de ogen van Jahweh?
Whi therfor herdist thou not the vois of the Lord, but thou were turned to prey, and didist yuel in the `iyen of the Lord?
20 Saul gaf Samuël ten antwoord: Ik heb geluisterd naar het bevel van Jahweh, en ben gegaan, waarheen Jahweh mij zond; Agag, den koning van Amalek, heb ik meegebracht en Amalek met de banvloek getroffen.
And Saul seide to Samuel, Yhis, Y herde the `vois of the Lord, and Y yede in the weie, bi which the Lord sente me, and Y haue brouyt Agag, the kyng of Amalech, and Y killide Amalech.
21 Doch het volk heeft uit de buit schapen en runderen gekozen, het beste van wat onder de banvloek lag, om die in Gilgal te offeren aan Jahweh, uw God.
Forsothe the puple took of the prey, scheep and oxun, the firste fruytis of tho thingis, that ben slayn, that thei make sacrifice to her Lord God in Galgalis.
22 Maar Samuël sprak: Behagen Jahweh brand- en slachtoffers Evenveel als gehoorzaamheid aan zijn stem? Néén, gehoorzaamheid is beter dan slachtoffers, Volgzaamheid beter dan het vet van bokken!
And Samuel seide, Whether the Lord wole brent sacrifices, ethir slayn sacrifices, and not more that me obeie to the vois of the Lord? For obedience is betere than sacrifices, and to `herkene Goddis word is more than to offre the ynnere fatnesse of rammes;
23 Want weerspannigheid is als de zonde van toverij, Weerbarstigheid als het euvel der afgodsbeelden. Omdat ge verworpen hebt het woord van Jahweh, Heeft Jahweh u verworpen als koning!
for it is as the synne of mawmetrie to `fiyte ayens Goddis heest, and it is as the wickidnesse of ydolatrie to nyle `ascente to Goddis heest. Therfor for that, that thou castidist awey the word of the Lord, the Lord castide thee awei, that thou be not kyng.
24 Nu bekende Saul voor Samuël: Ik heb gezondigd, door het bevel van Jahweh en uw opdracht te overtreden, daar ik uit vrees voor het volk aan hun verlangen voldeed.
And Saul seide to Samuel, Y synnede, for Y brak the word of the Lord, and thi wordis; `and Y dredde the puple, `and obeiede to `the vois of hem; but now,
25 Vergeef mijn zonde nu maar, en keer met mij terug, opdat ik Jahweh kan aanbidden.
Y biseche, bere thou my synne, and turne thou ayen with me, that Y worschipe the Lord.
26 Maar Samuël sprak tot Saul: Ik keer niet met u terug; want omdat ge het bevel van Jahweh hebt verworpen, heeft Hij u verworpen als koning over Israël.
And Samuel seide to Saul, Y schal not turne ayen with thee, for thou castidist awey the word of the Lord, and the Lord castide awei thee, that thou be not king on Israel.
27 En Samuël wendde zich af, om heen te gaan. Toen greep Saul hem vast aan een slip van zijn mantel, maar die scheurde af.
And Samuel turnede to go a wey; sotheli Saul took the ende of the mentil of Samuel, which also was to-rent.
28 Nu sprak Samuël tot hem: Afgescheurd heeft nu Jahweh van u het koningschap over Israël, en het gegeven aan een ander, die beter is dan gij.
And Samuel seide to hym, The Lord hath kit the rewme of Israel fro thee to dai, and yaf it to thi neiybore betere than thou;
29 Néén, de Glorie van Israël liegt niet, en heeft geen spijt over iets; want Hij is geen mens, dat Hij spijt over iets krijgt.
certis the ouercomere in Israel schal not spare, and he schal not be bowid bi repentaunce; for he is not man, `that is, chaungeable, that he do repentaunce.
30 Maar Saul drong aan: Al heb ik gezondigd, weiger mij toch in tegenwoordigheid van de oudsten van mijn volk en in het bijzijn van Israël niet de eer, met mij terug te keren, opdat ik Jahweh, uw God, kan aanbidden.
And Saul seide, Y synnede; but now onoure thou me bifor the eldere men of my puple, and bifor Israel, and turne thou ayen with me, that Y worschipe thi Lord God.
31 Daarom keerde Samuël zich om, en volgde Saul; en Saul boog zich voor Jahweh neer.
Therfor Samuel turnede ayen, and suede Saul, and Saul worschipide the Lord.
32 Toen beval Samuël: Breng Agag, den koning van Amalek, voor mij. Vrolijk trad Agag op hem toe, en zeide: Zo is de bittere dood dan geweken!
And Samuel seide, Brynge ye to me Agag, the kyng of Amalech. And Agag `moost fat tremblynge was brouyt to hym. And Agag seide, Whether thus departith bitter deeth?
33 Maar Samuël sprak: Zoals uw zwaard de vrouwen kinderloos maakte, Zo zal onder de vrouwen uw moeder kinderloos zijn! En Samuël hakte Agag in stukken voor Jahweh in Gilgal.
And Samuel seide, As thi swerd made wymmen with out fre children, so thi modir schal be with out fre children among wymmen. And Samuel kittide hym in to gobetis bifor the Lord in Galgalis.
34 Daarna vertrok Samuël naar Rama, en Saul keerde huiswaarts, naar Giba van Saul.
Forsothe Samuel yede in to Ramatha; sotheli Saul stiede in to his hows in Gabaa.
35 Tot aan zijn stervensdag toe zag Samuël Saul niet meer terug. Daar Samuël echter over Saul bleef treuren, omdat het Jahweh berouwd had, dat Hij hem tot koning over Israël had aangesteld.
And Samuel siy no more Saul `til to the dai of his deeth; netheles Samuel biweilide Saul, for it repentide the Lord, that he hadde ordeyned Saul kyng on Israel.
