1 Koningen 9
1 Toen Salomon de tempel van Jahweh, het koninklijk paleis en alle andere ontworpen gebouwen voltooid had,
Forsothe it was doon, whanne Salomon had perfourmed the bildyng of the hows of the Lord, and the bildyng of the kyng, and al thing that he coueitide, and wolde make,
2 verscheen Jahweh hem, evenals vroeger te Gibon.
the Lord apperide to Salomon the secunde tyme, as he apperide to hym in Gabaon.
3 En Hij sprak tot hem: Ik heb de smeekbede, die gij tot Mij opzondt, gehoord en de tempel, die gij gebouwd hebt, geheiligd. Mijn Naam zal Ik er voor eeuwig doen wonen, mijn ogen en mijn hart zullen er altijd op gericht zijn.
And the Lord seide to hym, Y haue herd thi preier, and thi bisechyng, which thou bisouytist bifor me; Y haue halewid this hows, which thou bildidist, that Y schulde sette there my name with outen ende; and myn iyen and myn herte schulen be there in alle daies.
4 Wanneer gij, juist als David, uw vader, in oprechtheid en onschuld des harten voor mijn aanschijn blijft wandelen, volgens mijn geboden leeft en mijn wetten en voorschriften onderhoudt,
Also if thou goist bifore me, as thi fadir yede, in simplenesse of herte, and in equite, and doist alle thingis whiche Y comaundide to thee, and kepist my domes, and my lawful thingis,
5 dan zal Ik uw koningstroon over Israël voor altijd bevestigen, zoals Ik aan uw vader David beloofd heb, toen Ik hem zeide: "Nooit zal het u aan een man op de troon van Israël ontbreken!"
Y schal sette the trone of thi rewme on Israel with outen ende, as Y spak to Dauid, thi fadir, and seide, A man of thi kyn schal not be takun awei fro the trone of Israel.
6 Maar wanneer gij en uw zonen u van Mij afkeert, de geboden en wetten, die Ik u gaf, niet meer onderhoudt, en andere goden gaat dienen en u voor hen neerwerpt,
Forsothe if bi turnyng awei ye and youre sones turnen awey, and suen not me, and kepen not myn hestis and cerymonyes, whiche Y settide forth to you, but ye goen, and worschipen alien goddis, and onouren hem `bi outward reuerence,
7 dan zal Ik Israël wegvagen uit het land, dat Ik hun heb gegeven, en de tempel, die Ik voor mijn Naam heb geheiligd, verwerpen. Israël zal een schimp en een schande worden voor alle volkeren,
Y schal do awei Israel fro the face of the lond which Y yaue to hem; and Y schal caste awei fro my siyt the temple, which Y halewid to my name; and Israel schal be in to a prouerbe and in to a fable, to alle puplis.
8 en deze tempel een puinhoop, waarbij iedereen, die voorbijgaat, blijft stilstaan en sist. En wanneer men zal vragen: Waarom heeft Jahweh zó met dit land en met deze tempel gedaan,
And this hows schal be in to ensaumple of Goddis offence; ech man that schal passe bi it, schal wondre, and schal hisse, and schal seye, Whi hath the Lord do thus to this lond, and to this hows?
9 dan zal het antwoord zijn: Omdat zij Jahweh, hun God, die hen uit Egypte voerde, hebben verlaten, om zich aan andere goden te hechten, zich voor hen neer te werpen en hen te dienen; daarom heeft Jahweh al deze ellende over hen gebracht!
And thei schulen answere, For thei forsoken her Lord God, that ladde the fadris of hem out of Egipt; and thei sueden alien goddis, and worschipiden hem, and onouriden hem; therfor the Lord brouyte in on hem al this yuel.
10 Toen Salomon na verloop van twintig jaar de beide bouwwerken, de tempel van Jahweh en het koninklijk paleis, had voltooid,

11 schonk hij twintig steden in Galilea aan Chirom, den koning van Tyrus, omdat deze hem cederen cypressenhout en goud geleverd had, zoveel hij wenste.

12 Maar toen Chirom er van Tyrus heen ging, om de steden te zien, die Salomon hem geschonken had, was hij er niet tevreden over,
And Hiram yede out of Tyre that he schulde se the citees, whiche Salomon hadde youe to hym, and tho plesiden not hym;
13 en zeide: Zijn dat nu de steden, die ge mij hebt gegeven, mijn broeder? En hij noemde ze het land Kaboel; zo heten ze tot op deze dag.
and he seide, Whethir thes ben the citees, whiche thou, brother, hast youe to me? And he clepide tho citees the lond of Chabul, `til in to this dai.
14 Toch zond Chirom nog honderd twintig talenten goud aan den koning.
Also Hiram sente to king Salomon sixe score talentis of gold.
15 Ziehier, hoe het stond met de verplichte arbeiders, die koning Salomon liet opkomen voor de bouw van de tempel van Jahweh, zijn eigen paleis, het Millo, de muur van Jerusalem en van Chasor, Megiddo en Gézer.

16 Farao, de koning van Egypte, was opgetrokken en had Gézer ingenomen, het in brand gestoken en de Kanaänieten, die er woonden, gedood. Nu had hij de stad als huwelijksgift geschonken aan zijn dochter, de vrouw van Salomon.
Farao, kyng of Egipt, stiede, and took Gazer, and brente it bi fier; and he killide Chananei, that dwellide in the citee, and yaf it in to dower to his douytir, the wijf of Salomon.
17 Daarom herbouwde Salomon Gézer. Verder bouwde hij Laag-Bet-Choron,
Therfor Salomon bildide Gazer, and the lower Bethoron,
18 Baälat en Tamar in de woestijn van Juda;
and Balaath, and Palmyra in the lond of wildirnesse;
19 bovendien nog al zijn voorraadsteden, wagensteden en ruitersteden en alle ontworpen gebouwen in Jerusalem, op de Libanon en in geheel zijn rijksgebied.
and he made strong alle the townes, that perteyneden to hym, and weren with out wal, and the citees of chaaris, and the citees of knyytis, and what euer thing pleside hym to bilde in Jerusalem, and in the Liban, and in al the lond of his power.
20 Heel de overgebleven bevolking der Amorieten, Chittieten, Perizzieten, Chiwwieten en Jeboesieten, die niet tot de Israëlieten behoorden, liet Salomon voor de arbeidsdienst opkomen.
Salomon made tributaries `til to this dai al the puple, that lefte of Ammorreis, Etheis, and Fereseis, and Eueys, and Jebuseys, that ben not of the sones of Israel,
21 Het waren de nakomelingen van hen, die in het land waren overgebleven, en die de Israëlieten niet hadden kunnen uitroeien. Zo is het gebleven tot op deze dag.
the sones of these hethen men, that dwelliden in the lond, that is, whiche the sones of Israel myyten not distrye.
22 Maar van de Israëlieten maakte hij niemand tot arbeider; zij waren zijn soldaten, hovelingen, legeroversten, bevelvoerders, wagenmenners en ruiters.

23 Tot hen behoorden ook de vijf honderd vijftig hoofdopzichters, die over het werk van Salomon stonden, en toezicht hielden over het volk, dat het werk moest verrichten.

24 Toen de dochter van Farao uit de Davidstad het paleis had betrokken, dat Salomon voor haar had gebouwd, trok hij het Millo op.

25 En nadat Salomon de tempel voltooid had, offerde hij drie maal per jaar brand- en vredeoffers op het altaar, dat hij voor Jahweh had gebouwd, en brandde hij reukwerk voor het aanschijn van Jahweh.
Also Salomon offride in thre tymes bi alle yeeris brent sacrifices and pesible sacrifices, on the auter which he hadde bildid to the Lord; and he brente encense bifor the Lord, and the temple was performed.
26 Ook rustte Salomon een vloot uit te Esjon-Géber bij Elat, aan de oever van de Rode Zee, in het land van Edom.
Also king Salomon made `o schip in Asiongaber, which is bisidis Haila, in the brenke of the Reed sea, and in the lond of Idumee.
27 Op deze vloot plaatste Chirom zijn ervaren scheepslieden naast het scheepsvolk van Salomon.
And Iram sente in that schip hise seruauntis, schipmen, and kunnynge of the see, with the seruauntis of Salomon;
28 Zij gingen naar Ofir, waar ze vier honderd twintig talenten goud haalden, dat ze bij koning Salomon brachten.
and whanne thei hadden come in to Ophir, thei brouyten fro thennus gold of foure hundrid and twenti talentis to kyng Salomon.
