1 Koningen 1
1 Toen koning David heel oud geworden was, kon hij maar niet warm worden, hoe men hem ook met dekens toedekte.
And kyng Dauid wax eld, and hadde ful many daies of age; and whanne he was hilid with clothis, he was not maad hoot.
2 Daarom zeiden zijn hovelingen tot hem: Laat men voor mijn heer en koning een jonge maagd zoeken, die hem voortdurend ten dienste staat, hem verzorgt en bij hem slaapt; dan zal mijn heer en koning wel warm worden.
Therfor hise seruauntis seiden to hym, Seke we to oure lord the kyng a yong wexynge virgyn; and stonde sche bifor the kyng, and nursche sche hym, and slepe in his bosum, and make hoot oure lord the kyng.
3 In het hele gebied van Israël zocht men nu naar een mooi meisje, en vond Abisjag van Sjoenem, die men bij den koning bracht.
Therfor thei souyten a yong wexyng virgyn, fair in alle the coostis of Israel; and thei founden Abisag of Sunam, and thei brouyten hir to the kyng.
4 Het was een bijzonder mooi meisje; ze verzorgde den koning en diende hem, maar de koning hield geen gemeenschap met haar.
Forsothe the damysel was ful fair, and sche slepte with the kyng, and mynystride to hym; forsothe the king knew not hir fleischli.
5 Intussen dacht Adoni-ja, de zoon van Chaggit, in zijn overmoed: Ik zal koning worden. Daarom schafte hij zich een wagen en ruiters aan, en vijftig man, die voor hem uitliepen;
Sotheli Adonye, sone of Agith, was reisid, and seide, Y schal regne. And he made to hym a chare, and knyytis, and fifti men, that runnen bifor hym.
6 ondanks dit alles viel zijn vader hem nooit lastig met de vraag: Waarom doet ge dat? Bovendien was Adoni-ja zeer knap van uiterlijk, en volgde in leeftijd op Absalom.
Nether his fadir repreuyde hym ony tyme, and seide, Whi `didist thou this? Forsothe also he was ful fair, the secounde child aftir Absolon; and his word was with Joab,
7 Hij onderhandelde dus met Joab, den zoon van Seroeja, en den priester Ebjatar, en dezen kozen de partij van Adoni-ja.
sone of Saruye, and with `Abiathar, preest, that helpiden the partis of Adonye.
8 Maar de priester Sadok, Benajáhoe, de zoon van Jehojada, de profeet Natan en Sjimi met zijn krijgsmakkers, Davids helden, hielden het niet met Adoni-ja.
Sotheli Sadoch, the preest, and Banaie, sone of Joiada, and Nathan, the prophete, and Semey, and Cerethi, and Ferethi, and al the strengthe of the oost of Dauid, weren not with Adonye.
9 Toen Adoni-ja dan ook schapen runderen en mestvee bij de Slangensteen naast de bron Rogel offerde, en daarbij al zijn broers en al de koninklijke beambten uit de stam van Juda uitnodigde,
Therfor whanne rammes weren offrid, and caluys, and alle fatte thingis, bisidis the stoon Zoelech, that was nyy the welle of Rogel, Adonye clepide alle hise britheren, sones of the kyng, and alle the men of Juda, seruauntis of the kyng.
10 vroeg hij den profeet Natan, Benajáhoe, de helden en zijn broer Salomon niet.
Sotheli `he clepide not Nathan, the profete, and Banaie, and alle stronge men, and Salomon, his brothir.
11 Toen sprak Natan tot Bat-Sjéba, de moeder van Salomon: Hebt ge niet gehoord, dat Adoni-ja, de zoon van Chaggit, buiten medeweten van onzen heer David koning is geworden?
Therfor Nathan seide to Bersabee, modir of Salomon, Whether thou herdist, that Adonye, sone of Agith, regnede, and oure lord Dauid knoweth not this?
12 Laat mij u nu een raad geven, hoe gij uw eigen leven en dat van uw zoon Salomon kunt redden.
Now therfor come thou, take thou counsel of me, and saue thi lijf, and of Salomon thi sone.
13 Ga binnen bij koning David en zeg hem: Hebt gij, mijn heer en koning, uw dienstmaagd niet onder ede beloofd "Uw zoon Salomon zal na mij koning worden en op mijn troon zitten?" Waarom is Adoni-ja dan koning geworden?
Go thou, and entre to kyng Dauid, and seie thou to hym, Whether not thou, my lord the kyng, hast swore to me, thin handmaide, and seidist, that Salomon thi sone schal regne aftir me, and he schal sitte in my trone?
14 Terwijl gij dan nog met den koning spreekt, zal ik na u binnenkomen en uw woorden kracht bijzetten.
Whi therfor regneth Adonye? And yit while thou schalt speke there with the kyng, Y schal come aftir thee, and `Y schal fille thi wordis.
15 Bat-Sjéba ging dus het vertrek van den koning binnen; de koning was zeer oud en Abisjag van Sjoenem diende hem.
Therfor Bersabee entride to the kyng in the closet; forsothe the kyng was ful eeld, and Abisag of Sunam `mynystride to hym.
16 Bat-Sjéba boog voor den koning, en wierp zich voor hem neer. Hij zeide tot haar: Wat verlangt ge?
Bersabee bowide hir silf, and worschipide the kyng; to whom the kyng seide, What wolt thou to thee?
17 Zij antwoordde: Mijn heer, gij hebt uw dienares bij Jahweh, uw God, gezworen: "Uw zoon Salomon zal na mij koning worden en op mijn troon zitten".
And sche answeride, and seide, My lord the kyng, thou hast swore to thin handmaide bi thi Lord God, Salomon thy sone schal regne aftir me, and he schal sitte in my trone;
18 En zie, nu is Adoni-ja koning geworden, zonder dat gij, mijn heer en koning, het weet.
and lo! Adonye hath regnede now, `while thou, my lord the kyng, knowist not;
19 Hij heeft een grote menigte runderen, mestvee en schapen geofferd, en al de zonen des konings genodigd, met den priester Eb-jatar en den legeroverste Joab, maar uw dienaar Salomon niet.
he hath slayn oxis, and alle fatte thingis, and ful many rammes; and he clepide alle the sones of the king, also `Abiathar preest, and Joab, the prince of chyualri; but he clepide not Salomon, thi seruaunt.
20 Thans zijn de ogen van heel Israël op u gericht, mijn heer en koning, opdat gij het te kennen geeft, wie na u op de troon van mijn heer en koning moet zitten.
Netheles, my lord the kyng, the iyen of al Israel biholden in to thee, that thou schewe to hem, who owith to sitte in thi trone, my lord the kyng, aftir thee;
21 Anders zullen ik en mijn zoon Salomon als misdadigers behandeld worden, wanneer mijn heer en koning bij zijn vaderen zal te ruste gaan.
and it schal be, whanne my lord the kyng hath slepte with hise fadris, Y and my sone Salomon schulen be synneris.
22 Terwijl zij nog met den koning sprak, kwam de profeet Natan;
`While sche spak yit with the king, Nathan, the prophete, cam.
23 en men meldde den koning: Daar is de profeet Natan. Deze kwam bij den koning binnen, wierp zich voor hem op zijn aangezicht ter aarde,
And thei telden to the kyng, and seiden, Nathan, the prophete, is present. And whanne he hadde entrid in the siyt of the kyng, and hadde worschipide hym lowli to erthe,
24 en sprak: Mijn heer en koning, gij hebt dus gezegd, dat Adoni-ja na u koning zal worden en op uw troon zal zitten?
Nathan seide, My lord the kyng, seidist thou, Adonye regne aftir me, and sitte he on my trone?
25 Want hij is vandaag een grote menigte runderen, mestvee en schapen gaan offeren, en heeft daarbij al de zonen des konings met de legeroversten en den priester Ebjatar uitgenodigd; nu eten en drinken ze bij hem en roepen: Leve koning Adoni-ja!
For he cam doun to dai, and offride oxis, and fatte thingis, and ful many wetheris; and he clepide alle the sones of the kyng, also Abiathar, preest; and whanne thei eten, and drunken bifor hym, and seiden, Kyng Adonye lyue;
26 Maar mij, uw dienaar, en den priester Sadok, heeft hij niet uitgenodigd; evenmin Benajáhoe, den zoon van Jehojada, en uw dienaar Salomon.
he clepide not me, thi seruaunt, and Sadoch, preest, and Banaie, sone of Joiada, and Salomon, thi sone.
27 Is dit alles werkelijk op last van mijn heer en koning gebeurd, zonder dat gij uw dienaar hebt laten weten, wie na u op de troon van mijn heer en koning zal zitten?
Whether this word yede out fro my lord the kyng, and thou schewidist not to me, thi seruaunt, who schulde sitte on the trone of my lord the king after hym?
28 Nu sprak koning David: Roept Bat-Sjéba hier. Toen zij binnen gekomen was en voor den koning stond,
And kyng Dauid answeride, and seide, Clepe ye Bersabee to me. And whanne sche hadde entrid bifor the kyng, and hadde stonde bifor hym, the kyng swoor,
29 zwoer hij: Zo waar Jahweh leeft, die mij uit alle nood heeft gered;
and seide, The Lord lyueth, that delyueryde my lijf fro al angwisch;
30 wat ik u bij Jahweh, Israëls God, gezworen heb, dat uw zoon Salomon na mij koning zal worden en in mijn plaats op mijn troon zal zitten, dat breng ik vandaag nog ten uitvoer.
for as Y swore to thee bi the Lord God of Israel, and seide, Salomon, thi sone, schal regne after me, and he schal sitte on my trone for me, so Y schal do to dai.
31 Toen boog Bat-Sjéba het aangezicht ter aarde, wierp zich voor den koning neer en zeide: Leve mijn heer, koning David. in eeuwigheid!
And Bersabee, with the cheer cast doun in to erthe, worschipide the kyng, and seide, My lord the kyng Dauid lyue with outen ende.
32 Nu sprak koning David: Roept den priester Sadok, den profeet Natan en Benajáhoe, den zoon van Jehojada. Toen dezen voor den koning waren verschenen,
And kyng Dauid seide, Clepe ye Sadoch, the preest, to me, and Nathan, the prophete, and Banaie, sone of Joiada. And whanne thei hadden entrid bifor the kyng,
33 zeide hij hun: Neemt de dienaren van uw heer mee, zet mijn zoon Salomon op mijn eigen muildier, en leidt hem naar de Gichon
the kyng seide to hem, Take with you the seruauntis of youre lord, and putte ye my sone Salomon on my mule, and lede ye hym in to Gyon.
34 Daar moeten de priester Sadok en de profeet Natan hem tot koning over Israël zalven. Steekt dan de bazuin en roept: Leve koning Salomon!
And Sadoch, the preest, and Nathan, the profete, anoynte hym in to kyng on Israel and Juda; and ye schulen synge with a clarioun, and ye schulen seie, Lyue kyng Salomon!
35 Trekt daarop in zijn gevolg de stad binnen, en laat hem dan op mijn troon gaan zitten. Zo zal hij koning zijn in mijn plaats; want hem stel ik aan tot vorst over Israël en Juda.
Ye schulen stie aftir hym, and ye schulen come to Jerusalem; and he schal sitte on my trone, and he schal regne for me; and Y schal comaunde to hym, that he be duyk on Israel and on Juda.
36 Toen sprak Benajáhoe, de zoon van Jehojada, tot den koning: Zo zij het! Moge Jahweh de woorden van mijn heer en koning bekrachtigen.
And Banaie, sone of Joiada, answeride to the kyng, and seide, Amen, `that is, so be it, ether verili, ether feithfuli; so speke the Lord God of my lord the kyng.
37 Zoals Jahweh met mijn heer en koning geweest is, zo moge Hij ook met Salomon zijn, en zijn troon nog verhevener maken dan die van mijn heer en koning David.
As the Lord was with my lord the kyng, so be he with Salomon, and make he the trone of Salomon heiyere than the trone of my lord the kyng Dauid.
38 Toen gingen de priester Sadok, de profeet Natan en Benajáhoe, de zoon van Jehojada, met de Kretenzen en de Peletiërs heen, zetten Salomon op het muildier van koning David, en leidden hem naar de Gichon.
Therfor Sadoch, the preest, yede doun, and Nathan, the prophete, and Banaie, sone of Joiada, and Cerethi, and Ferethi; and thei puttiden Salomon on the mule of Dauid, the kyng, and thei brouyten hym in to Gion.
39 Daar nam de priester Sadok de hoorn met olie, die hij uit de verbondstent had meegenomen, en zalfde Salomon. Nu stak men de bazuin, en heel het volk riep: Leve koning Salomon!
And Sadoch, the preest, took an horn of oile of the tabernacle, and anoyntide Salomon; and thei sungen with a clarioun; and al the puple seide, Lyue kyng Salomon!
40 Daarop trok al het volk achter hem aan de stad in, en men speelde op de fluit en jubelde van vreugde, zodat de grond er van dreunde.
And al the multitude stiede after hym, and the puple of men syngynge with pipis, and `of men beynge glad with greet ioye, `stiede aftir hym; and the erthe sownede of the cry of hem.
41 Adoni-ja en al de gasten, die bij hem waren, hoorden dit, juist toen de maaltijd ten einde was. Ook Joab hoorde de klank der bazuinen en vroeg: Vanwaar dat luid gejoel in de stad?
Forsothe Adonye herde, and alle that weren clepid of hym to feeste; and thanne the feeste was endid. But also Joab seide, whanne the vois of trumpe was herd, What wole it to it silf the cry of the citee makynge noise?
42 Terwijl hij nog sprak, kwam Jonatan, de zoon van den priester Ebjatar aangelopen, en Adoni-ja riep: Kom hier; ge zijt een flink man, en zult wel een goede tijding brengen.
Yit the while he spak, Jonathan, sone of Abiathar, the preest, cam; to whom Adonye seide, Entre thou, for thou art a strong man, and tellynge goode thingis.
43 Maar Jonatan antwoordde: Integendeel; onze heer, koning David, heeft Salomon koning gemaakt.
And Jonathan answeride to Adonye, Nay; for oure lord the kyng Dauid hath ordeyned Salomon kyng;
44 Hij heeft hem den priester Sadok, den profeet Natan, en Benajáhoe, den zoon van Jehojada met de Kretenzen en de Peletiërs meegegeven. Dezen hebben hem op het muildier van den koning gezet,
and Dauid sente with Salomon Sadoch, the preest, and Nathan, the prophete, and Banaie, sone of Joiada, and Cerethi, and Ferethi; and thei puttiden Salomon on the mule of the kyng.
45 en de priester Sadok en de profeet Natan hebben hem bij de Gichon tot koning gezalfd. Vandaar zijn ze jubelend de stad ingegaan, die in rep en roer geraakte. Dit is het rumoer, dat ge gehoord hebt.
And Sadoch, the preest, and Nathan, the prophete, anoyntiden hym kyng in Gion; and thei camen doun fro thennus beynge glad, and the citee sownede; this is the vois which ye herden.
46 Salomon heeft zich op de koninklijke troon neergezet,
But also Salomon sittith on the trone of rewme;
47 en de dienaren van den koning zijn binnengekomen, om onzen heer, koning David, geluk te wensen. Ze zeiden: Moge uw God de naam van Salomon nog roemrijker maken dan de uwe, en zijn troon nog verhevener dan uw troon. En de koning boog zich op zijn rustbed neer
and the seruauntis of the kyng entriden, and blessiden oure lord the kyng Dauid, and seiden, God make large the name of Salomon aboue thi name, and magnyfye his trone aboue thi trone. And kyng Dauid worschipide in his bed;
48 en sprak: Gezegend zij Jahweh, Israëls God, die heden een van mijn zonen op mijn troon heeft geplaatst, en het mij met eigen ogen heeft laten zien.
and ferthermore he spak these thingis, Blessid be the Lord God of Israel, that yaf to dai a sittere in my trone, while myn iyen seen.
49 Toen stonden de gasten van Adoni-ja ontsteld op, en zochten allen een goed heenkomen.
Therfor alle, that weren clepid of Adonye to feeste, weren aferd, and risiden, and ech man yede in to his weie.
50 Ook Adoni-ja liep uit vrees voor Salomon weg, en greep de hoornen van het altaar
Sotheli Adonye dredde Salomon, and roos, and yede in to the tabernacle of the Lord, and helde the horn of the auter.
51 En men berichtte aan Salomon, dat Adoni-ja uit vrees voor koning Salomon de hoornen van het altaar had vastgegrepen en gezegd: Eerst moet koning Salomon mij zweren, dat hij zijn dienaar niet met het zwaard zal doden.
And thei telden to Salomon, and seiden, Lo! Adonye dredith the kyng Salomon, and holdith the horn of the auter, and seith, Kyng Salomon swere to me to dai, that he schal not sle his seruaunt bi swerd.
52 Maar Salomon zei: Wanneer het blijkt, dat hij een eerlijk man is, zal geen haar van hem ter aarde vallen; maar wordt hij op iets slechts betrapt, dan zal hij sterven.
And Salomon seide, If he is a good man, sotheli not oon heer of hym schal falle in to erthe; but if yuel be foundun in hym, he schal die.
53 Daarop liet koning Salomon hem van het altaar halen; hij kwam en wierp zich voor koning Salomon neer. En Salomon sprak tot hem: Ga naar huis.
Therfor kyng Salomon sente, and ledde `hym out fro the auter; and he entride, and worschipide kyng Salomon; and Salomon seide to hym, Go in to thin hows.
