A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving chen ·grace· is better than silver and gold.

The rich and the poor have this in common: Adonai is the maker of them all.
3 Ngʼat mariek neno masira kabiro kendo opondo, to ngʼat mofuwo dhiyo adhiya nyime ma ohinyre.
A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
4 Bolruok kod luoro Jehova Nyasaye kelo mwandu gi luor kod dak amingʼa.
The result of humility and the fear of Adonai is wealth, kavod ·weighty glory·, and life.
5 Yore joma timo richo opongʼ gi kudho kod obadho; to ngʼat morito chunye obedo mabor kodgi.
Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.
6 Puonj nyathi e yo monego odhiye, to ka obedo maduongʼ to ok obi baro oa kuome.
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
7 Jochan gin wasumb jo-mwandu, to ngʼat moholo gimoro bedo misumba ngʼat mohole.
The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.
8 Ngʼatno mochwowo timbe richo kayo thagruok, to ludhe mar mirima ibiro ketho.
He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
9 Ngʼat mangʼwon noyud gweth, nimar opogo chiembe kod jochan.
He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.
10 Riemb ngʼat ma jaro ji, to lweny bende aa, dhawo kod kinyruok rumo.
Divorce the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.
11 Ngʼat ma chunye ler kendo ma wuoyo gi ngʼwono biro bedo osiep ruoth.
He who 'ahav ·affectionately loves· purity of heart and speaks chen ·gracefully· is the king’s friend.
12 Wangʼ Jehova Nyasaye rito ngʼeyo; to orundo weche mag jogo ma ok jo-adiera.
Adonai’s eyes watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
13 Jasamuoyo wacho niya, “Sibuor ni oko!” Kata, “Ibiro nega e yore mag dala!”
The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”
14 Dho dhako ma jachode en bur matut; ngʼatno manie bwo mirimb Jehova Nyasaye biro lingʼore e iye.
The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under Adonai’s wrath will fall into it.
15 Fuwo otwere e chuny nyathi, to ludh kum biro riembe mabor kode.
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
16 Ngʼat mathiro jochan mondo mwandune omedre kod ngʼat machiwo mich ne jomoko biro bedo jochan.
Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.
17 Chik iti kendo iwinj weche mag jomariek; ket chunyi ne gima apuonjo,
Turn your ear, and sh'ma ·hear obey· the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.
18 nimar en mor ka ikanogi ei chunyi kendo bed kodgi moikore e dhogi.
For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
19 Mondo omi ibed gi geno kuom Jehova Nyasaye; apuonji tinendeni, in bende.
That your trust may be in Adonai, I teach you today, even you.
20 Donge asendikoni weche mowachi piero adek, weche mag puonj kod ngʼeyo,
Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,
21 mapuonjou adiera gi weche migeno, mondo ichiw dwoko mowinjore ne ngʼat mane oori?
To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
22 Kik ima jachan nikech gin jochan kendo kik ihiny joma ochando man-gi dwaro e kar bura,
Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
23 nimar Jehova Nyasaye biro chwako buchgi, kendo tieko ngima joma tieko ngimagi.
for Adonai will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.
24 Kik imak osiep gi ngʼat ma iye wangʼ piyo; kik iriwri bende gi ngʼatno makecho piyo,
Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger:
25 dipo nono ka ipuonjori yorene, ma iwuon idonj e obadho.
lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul.
26 Kik ibed ngʼatno matimo singruok kata machungʼ ne ngʼato e gope;
Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.
27 ka ionge gi yo kaka dichul, nono to wuon gowino nyalo kawo kitandani.
If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
28 Kik igol kidi mar kiewo machon mane oket gi kweregi.
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up.
29 Bende ineno ngʼat molony e tije? Obiro tiyo ne ruodhi, ok onyal tiyo ne ji ma ok ongʼere.
Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.
