Jongʼad Bura 1

1 Bangʼ tho Joshua, jo-Israel nopenjo Jehova Nyasaye niya, “Ere ngʼama biro dhi mokwongo mondo okednwa gi jo-Kanaan?”

And it came to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, —Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?

2 Jehova Nyasaye nodwoko niya, “Dhood Juda ema biro dhi mokwongo; nimar asechiwo pinyno e lwetgi.”

And Yahweh said—Judah, shall go, —lo! I have delivered the land into his power.

3 Eka jo-Juda nowachone jo-Simeon mowetegi niya, “Biuru kodwa e gwengʼ mosepogwa, mondo waked gi jo-Kanaan. Wan bende wabiro dhi kodu e maru.” Omiyo jo-Simeon nodhi kodgi.

Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brother—Come up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.

4 Kane jo-Juda omonjogi, Jehova Nyasaye nochiwo jo-Kanaan kod jo-Perizi e lwetgi kendo neginego ji alufu apar Bezek.

And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, —and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.

5 Kanyo ema ne giyudoe Adoni-Bezek kendo negikedo kode, mi giloyo jo-Kanaan gi jo-Perizi.

And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him, —and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6 Adoni-Bezek noringo mondo oyombgi, to ne gilawe ma gimake kendo gingʼado lith lwetene mathuon kod lith tiendene mathuon.

But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him, —and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.

7 Eka Adoni-Bezek nowacho niya, “Ruodhi piero abiriyo ma lith lwetegi mathuon kod lith tiendegi mathuon osengʼad oko osebedo ka chamo ngʼinjo e bwo mesana. Koro Nyasaye osechula kuom gigo mane atimonegi.” Negikele Jerusalem, kendo notho kanyo.

Then said Adoni-bezek—Seventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.

8 Jo-Juda bende nomonjo Jerusalem kendo ne gikawe. Negimonjo dala maduongʼno gi ligangla kendo gimoko mach kuome.

And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, —and, the city, they set on fire.

9 Bangʼ mano, jo-Juda nodhi mondo giked gi jo-Kanaan modak e piny manie got Negev kod tiend gode mantiere yo podho chiengʼ.

And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites, —dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.

10 Negidhi nyime kendo gikedo gi jo-Kanaan modak Hebron (machon ne iluongo ni Kiriath Arba) kendo negiloyo Sheshai, Ahiman kod Talmai.

And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba, —and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.

11 Koa kanyo negisudo nyime kendo gimonjo joma odak Debir (machon ne iluongo ni Kiriath Sefa).

And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir, —now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.

12 To Kaleb nowacho niya, “Anachiw nyara Aksa mondo okendi gi ngʼatno manoked ma kaw Kiriath Sefa.”

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.

13 Othniel wuod Kenaz, ma owadgi Kaleb matin, noloyo pinyno, omiyo Kaleb nomiye nyare Aksa mondo okendi.

Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it, —and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.

14 Chiengʼ moro achiel kane obiro ir Othniel, nojiwe mondo okwa wuon mare puodho. Kane olor oa e pundane, Kaleb nopenje niya, “En angʼo midwaro ni mondo atimni?”

And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto her—What aileth thee?

15 Nodwoko niya, “Timna ngʼwono makende. Nimar isemiya puodho man Negev, miya bende thidhna mar pi.” Omiyo Kaleb nomiye thidhna ma malo kod mamwalo.

And she said unto him—Give me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.

16 Nyikwa jo-Keni ma jaduongʼ Musa, nodhi koa e Dala Maduongʼ mar Jeriko ka en gi jo-Juda mondo gidag e dier jogo mantiere e thim mar Juda man Negev but Arad.

Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad, —so they went and dwelt with the people.

17 Eka jo-Juda nodhi gi jo-Simeon mowetegi mi gimonjo jo-Kanaan modak Zefath, kendo negiketho dala maduongʼno chuth. Emomiyo noluonge ni Horma.

Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath, —and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.

18 Jo-Juda bende nokawo Gaza, Ashkelon kod Ekron, ka dala maduongʼ moro ka moro nigi gwengʼe.

And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof, —and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.

19 Jehova Nyasaye ne nigi jo-Juda. Negikawo piny gode, to ne ok ginyal riembo joma ne odak e piny pewe, nikech ne gin-gi geche mag chuma.

And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, —but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.

20 Kaka Musa ne osesingo, Hebron nomi Kaleb, mane oriembo yawuot Anak adek.

So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses, —and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.

21 Jo-Benjamin, kata kamano, ne ok nyal loyo jo-Jebus, mane odak Jerusalem; nyaka kawuononi jo-Jebus pod odak kanyo gi jo-Benjamin.

But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out, —but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.

22 Koro od Josef nomonjo Bethel, kendo Jehova Nyasaye ne ni kode.

Then went up the house of Joseph—they also, —unto Bethel, —and, Yahweh, was with them.

23 Kane gioro ji mondo onon Bethel (machon yande iluongo ni Luz),

And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel, —now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.

24 jonon pinygo noneno ngʼato ka wuok e dala maduongʼ kendo negiwachone niya, “Kinyiswa e yo midonjogo e dala cha to ok wabi yie mondo gimoro otimi.”

So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city, —and they said unto him—Shew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.

25 Omiyo nonyisogi, kendo neginego ji duto mane ni e dala maduongʼno gi ligangla makmana ngʼat cha gi joge duto ema notony.

And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword, —but, the man and all his family, they let go.

26 Eka nodhi e piny jo-Hiti, kama nogeroe dala maduongʼ mi ochake ni Luz, ma mano e nyinge nyaka chil kawuono.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, —and built a city, and called the name thereof, Luz, that, is the name thereof, unto this day.

27 To Manase ne ok oriembo jo-Beth Shan kata Tanak kata Dor kata Ibleam kata Megido kod alwora mar kuonde dak-gi, nimar jo-Kanaan noramo ni nyaka gidag e pinyno.

But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns, —but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;

28 Kane jo-Israel osebedo motegno, negiloko jo-Kanaan wasumbinigi kendo ne ok giriembogi kata matin.

when Israel, however, had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute, —though they, dispossessed, them not.

29 Kata jo-Efraim bende ne ok oriembo jo-Kanaan modak Gezer, to jo-Kanaan ne odhi nyime gidak e diergi.

And, Ephraim, dispossessed not the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gezer, —so the Canaanites remained in their midst, in Gezer.

30 Jo-Zebulun bende ne ok oriembo jo-Kanaan mane odak Kitron kata Nahahol, mane odongʼ e diergi; to ne gilokogi wasumbinigi.

Zebulun, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, —but the Canaanites remained in their midst, and came under tribute.

31 Jo-Asher bende ne ok oriembo joma ne odak Ako, Sidon, Alab, Akzib, Helba, Afek, kod Rehob,

Asher, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, —nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;

32 kamano jo-Asher nodhi nyime mana gidak gi jo-Kanaan kendo ne ok giriembogi.

but the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —for they dispossessed them not.

33 Jo-Naftali bende ne ok oriembo jogo mane odak Beth Shemesh kod Beth Anath, to negidak e dier jo-Kanaan mane weg pinyno kendo negiloko jogo mane odak Beth Shemesh kod Beth Anath wasumbinigi.

Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.

34 Jo-Amor nochoko jo-Dan kamoro achiel e piny gode, mane ok oyienigi mondo gibi mwalo e piny pewe.

And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, —for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;

35 Kendo jo-Amor noramo ni nyaka gidag e Got Heres, Aijalon kod Shalbim, to ka teko mar od Josef nomedore, gin bende nolokgi wasumbini.

and, though the Amorites were determined to remain in the hill country of Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, yet was the hand of the house of Joseph heavy, so that they came under tribute.

36 Tongʼ mar jo-Amor nochakore Akrabim nyaka Sela kendo mokalo kanyo.

And, the boundary of the Amorites, was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upwards.
