1 Bangʼ loch Abimelek ja-Isakar, Tola wuod Pua, ma wuod Dodo, nowuok mondo ores jo-Israel. Nodak Shamir, e piny got mar Efraim.
After Abimelech's time, Tola, son of Puah, son of Dodo, from the tribe of Issachar, came on the scene to save Israel. He lived in the town of Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim.
2 Notelo ne Israel kuom higni piero ariyo gadek; eka notho, kendo noyike Shamir.
He led Israel as a judge for twenty-three years. Then he died and was buried in Shamir.
3 Noluwe gi Jair ma ja-Gilead, ma notelo ne Israel kuom higni piero ariyo gariyo.
After Tola came Jair from Gilead, who led Israel as a judge for twenty-two years.
4 Ne en-gi yawuowi piero adek mane nigi punde piero adek mane giidho. Negitelone mier piero adek man Gilead, manyaka kawuononi pod iluongo ni Havoth Jair.
He had thirty sons who rode thirty donkeys. They had thirty towns in the land of Gilead, which to this day are called the Towns of Jair.
5 Ka Jair notho, noyike Kamon.
Jair died and he was buried in Kamon.
6 Jo-Israel nochako otimo timbe mamono e wangʼ Jehova Nyasaye. Negitiyone Baal gi Ashtoreth, kod nyiseche mag jo-Aram, gi nyiseche mag jo-Sidon, nyiseche mag jo-Moab, nyiseche mag jo-Amon kod nyiseche mag jo-Filistia. Bende nikech jo-Israel nojwangʼo Jehova Nyasaye mi ok gitiyone,
Once again the Israelites did what was evil in the Lord's sight. They worshiped the Baals and the Ashtoreths, as well as the gods of Aram, Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites and Philistines. They rejected the Lord and did not worship him.
7 iye nowangʼ kodgi. Nochiwogi e lwet jo-Filistia kod jo-Amon,
So the Lord became angry with Israel, and he sold them to the Philistines and the Ammonites.
8 mane osandogi kendo othirogi e higano. Kuom higni apar gaboro negisando jo-Israel duto mane nitie yo wuok chiengʼ mar Jordan e piny Gilead, ma en piny jo-Amor.
That year and for eighteen more years they harassed and oppressed the Israelites, all the Israelites that lived on the east side of the Jordan in Gilead, the land of the Amorites.
9 Jo-Amon bende nongʼado Jordan mondo oked gi jo-Juda, jo-Benjamin kod od Efraim; kendo Israel nenie thagruok malich.
The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to attack Judah, Benjamin, and Ephraim, causing terrible trouble for Israel.
10 Eka jo-Israel noywak ne Jehova Nyasaye, “Waseketho e nyimi, ka waweyo Nyasachwa kendo watiyone nyiseche mag Baal.”
The Israelites cried out to the Lord for help, saying, “We have sinned against you, rejecting our God and worshiping the Baals.”
11 Jehova Nyasaye nodwoko niya, “E kinde mane jo-Misri, jo-Amor, jo-Amon, jo-Filistia,
The Lord replied to the Israelites, “Didn't I save you from the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines,
12 jo-Sidon, jo-Amalek kod jo-Maon nothirou kendo ne uywakna mondo akonyu, donge ne aresou ma ua e lwetgi?
the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites? When they attacked you, and you cried out to me for help, didn't I save you from them?
13 To usejwangʼa mutiyone nyiseche mamoko, omiyo koro ok anachak aresu.
But you have rejected me and worshiped other gods, so I won't save you again.
14 Dhiuru kendo uywagne nyisecheu ma useyiero. Weuru giresu sa ma un e thagruok!”
Go and cry out for help to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you in your time of trouble.”
15 To jo-Israel nowachone Jehova Nyasaye niya, “Wasetimo richo. Timnwa gimoro amora miparo ni berni, to kiyie to reswa sani.”
The Israelites said to the Lord, “We have sinned! Treat us in whatever way you think you should, only please save us now!”
16 Eka ne giwito nyiseche manono kendo negitiyo ni Jehova Nyasaye. Eka Jehova Nyasaye nokecho jo-Israel kuom thagruokgi.
So they got rid of the foreign gods they had and worshiped the Lord. And the Lord couldn't stand Israel's misery any longer.
17 Ka jo-Amon noluongi mondo oik gige lweny mag-gi kendo gichokre Gilead, jo-Israel to nochokore Mizpa.
The Ammonite armies had been called up and were camped in Gilead. The Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah.
18 Jotend jo-Gilead nowacho kendgi giwegi niya, “Ngʼato angʼata ma nemonj jo-Amon ema nobed jotend jogo duto modak Gilead.”
The commanders of the people of Gilead agreed among themselves, “Whoever leads the attack on the Ammonites will become ruler over everyone who lives in Gilead.”
