< Joshua 8 >
1 Eka Jehova Nyasaye nowachone Joshua niya, “Kik iluor, kendo kik chunyi nyosre. Kaw jolweny duto mondo udhi umonj Ai, nimar asechiwo e lwetu ruodh Ai, joge, dalane maduongʼ kod pinye.
The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid, neither be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. Look, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, with his people, his city, and his land.
2 Timneuru Ai kod ruodhe mana kaka ne utimone Jeriko kod ruodhe, to wangʼni oyienu kawo gigo mane giyudo e yor mecho kaachiel gi jamni. Monjuru dala maduongʼno gi yo katoke.”
You shall do to Ai and her king as you did to Jericho and her king, except its spoil and its livestock, you shall take for a plunder for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it."
3 Omiyo Joshua kod jolweny duto nowuok mondo gimonj Ai. Noyiero joge alufu piero adek molony e lweny mi oorogi oko gotieno komiyogi chik niya,
So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai. Joshua chose thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor, and sent them out by night.
4 “Winjuru. Nyaka umonj dala maduongʼno gi yo katoke. Kik udhi mabor ahinya. Un duto nyaka uikru.
He commanded them, saying, "Look, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.
5 An kod jogo duto man koda, to biro dhi nyime e dala maduongʼ, to ka jogo obiro mondo omonjwa kaka negitimo motelocha, to wabiro ringo waa irgi.
I, and all the people who are with me, will approach to the city. It shall happen, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.
6 Gibiro luwo bangʼwa nyaka wawuondgi mi giwuog oko mar dala maduongʼ, mi giniwach e chunygi ni, ‘Ne, giringowa mana kaka ne giringowa motelo.’ Omiyo seche mwaringogino
They will come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city; for they will say, 'They flee before us, like the first time.' So we will flee before them,
7 nyaka uwuog kuma upondoe kendo ukaw dala maduongʼno. Jehova Nyasaye ma Nyasachu biro ketogi e lwetu.
and you shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city; for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
8 Ka usekawo dala maduongʼno, to uwangʼe gi mach. Timuru gima Jehova Nyasaye osechiko kendo nyaka une ni utimo gik ma achikou.”
It shall be, when you have seized on the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do this according to the word of the LORD. Look, I have commanded you."
9 Eka Joshua noorogi ma gidhi gipondo e kind Bethel gi Ai, ma en yo podho chiengʼ mar Ai, kendo otienono nosiko gi ji kanyo.
Joshua sent them out; and they went to set up the ambush, and stayed between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua stayed among the people that night.
10 Kinyne gokinyi mangʼich Joshua nochoko jolweny mage duto ka en kaachiel gi jodong Israel wuotho e nyimgi kadhi Ai.
Joshua rose up early in the morning, mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders, before the people to Ai.
11 Jolweny duto mane ni kode ne wuotho ka gichomo dala maduongʼ nyaka negichopo machiegni kode. Negigero kambigi yo nyandwat mar Ai, ka holo ni e kindgi kod dala maduongʼ.
All the people, even the men of war who were with him, went up, and drew near, and came before the city, and camped on the north side of Ai. Now there was a valley between him and Ai.
12 Joshua nokawo ji madirom alufu abich mooro yo podho chiengʼ mar Ai mondo opond e kind Bethel kod dala maduongʼno.
He took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
13 Kuom mano thoth jolweny nobworo yo nyandwat mar dala maduongʼno, to joma nopondo ne ni yo podho chiengʼ. Otienono Joshua to nonindo e holo.
So they set the people, even all the army who was on the north of the city, and their ambush on the west of the city; and Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
14 Kane ruodh Ai oneno ma, en kod ji duto mar dala maduongʼ nowuok oko mapiyo nono gokinyi mangʼich mondo girom kod jo-Israel e lweny kama omanyore gi Araba. To ne ok ongʼeyo ni kar pondo noseketi e ngʼe dala maduongʼno.
And it happened, when the king of Ai saw it, that he hurried and rose up early, and the men of the city went out to engage them directly in battle, he and all his people, to the meeting place in front of the Arabah; but he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
15 Joshua kod jo-Israel duto nowuondore ni ologi, mi giringo ka gichiko thim.
Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
16 Chwo duto ma Ai nowuok mondo olaw Joshua gi joge, to kane gilawogi kamano, to ne gichwalore mabor gi dala maduongʼno.
All the people who were in the city were called together to pursue after them. They pursued Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
17 Onge ngʼama nodongʼ Ai kata Bethel mane ok olawo jo-Israel. Ne giweyo dala maduongʼ nono ka gilawo jo-Israel.
There was not a man left in Ai or Beth El who did not go out after Israel. They left the city open, and pursued Israel.
18 Eka Jehova Nyasaye nowachone Joshua niya, “Siem yo Ai gi tongʼ mitingʼo e lwetino, nikech e lweti abiro chiwoe dala maduongʼno.” Omiyo Joshua nosiemo tongʼe kochiko Ai.
The LORD said to Joshua, "Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand." Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.
19 E seche mane otimo ma, jogo mane opondo noa malo piyo ka giringo gidonjo e dala maduongʼ. Bangʼ kane gisekawe, ne giwangʼe mana gisano.
The ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and entered into the city, and took it. They hurried and set the city on fire.
20 Jo-Ai nongʼiyo chien ma gineno ka iro dhwolore e dala maduongʼ kochiko polo, makmana ne gionge gi thuolo mar pondo e yo moro amora nikech jo-Israel mane osebedo kawuondore ni ringo kochiko thim nolokore kod jogo mane lawogi.
When the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and look, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way. The people who fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.
21 Kane Joshua kod jo-Israel noneno ka joma nopondo osekawo dala maduongʼ kendo iro bende ne dhwolore kanyo, negilokore mi gimonjo jo-Ai.
When Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and killed the men of Ai.
22 Jogo mane opondo bende nowuok oko mar dala maduongʼ moromo kodgi kendo omonjogi, omiyo nogengʼnegi e diere ka jo-Israel ni koni gi koni. Jo-Israel notiekogi pep maonge ngʼama notony kata achiel.
The others came out of the city against them, so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side. They struck them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
23 Ruodh Ai kende ema negimako kangima kendo negitere ir Joshua.
They captured the king of Ai alive, and brought him to Joshua.
24 Kane jo-Israel ne osetieko nego jo-Ai duto mane ni e pap kod mane ni e thim kama ne giselawogie, kendo kane gisenegogi duto gi ligangla, jo-Israel nodok Ai mi ginego jogo mane odongʼ kuno.
And it came to pass when Israel had made an end of killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the plains, and on the mountain on the slope, where they pursued them, and they had all fallen by the edge of the sword until they were destroyed, then all Israel returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword.
25 Jo-Ai duto machwo kod mamon alufu apar gariyo notho chiengʼno.
All that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.
26 Joshua ne ok owe siemo Ai gi tongʼ mane otingʼo e lwete nyaka Israel notieko ji duto mane odak Ai.
For Joshua did not draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27 Jo-Israel to nokawo jamni gi mwandu mane giyako mar dala maduongʼno mana kaka Jehova Nyasaye nosechiko Joshua.
Only the livestock and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey to themselves, according to the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.
28 Omiyo Joshua nowangʼo Ai mi okete obedo pith mongingore mar kethruok kendo pod en kamano nyaka chil kawuono.
So Joshua burnt Ai, and made it a heap forever, even a desolation, to this day.
29 Ne onego ruodh Ai mi oliere gi tol e yath kama noriyoe nyaka odhiambo. Kane ochopo odhiambo, Joshua nogolo chik mondo ogol ringre oko e yath kendo lware piny e dhoranga dala maduongʼ. Nodhur kuome kite mangʼeny ma pod ni kanyo nyaka chil kawuono.
He hanged the king of Ai on a tree until the evening, and at the sundown Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree, and threw it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised a great heap of stones on it that remains to this day.
30 Eka Joshua nogero kendo mar misango e got Ebal ni Jehova Nyasaye ma Nyasach Israel,
Then Joshua built an altar to the LORD, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal,
31 mana kaka Musa jatich Jehova Nyasaye nosechiko jo-Israel. Nogere kaluwore gi gima nondiki e kitap Chik mar Musa niya, Kendo mar misango moger gi kite ma ok opa, gi gir nyinyo. Ewi kendono ema negichiwone Jehova Nyasaye misango miwangʼo pep kod misango mar lalruok.
as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, "an altar of uncut stones, on which no man has touched with an iron tool." They offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
32 Joshua nondiko chik Musa e kitego e nyim jo-Israel.
He wrote there on the stones a copy of the Law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
33 Jo-Israel duto, jopinje mamoko kod jopinyno machalre, ka gin gi jodong-gi, gi jotendgi kod jongʼad bura nochungʼ e bath Sandug Muma mar singruok mar Jehova Nyasaye koni gi koni, ka gimanyore gi jo-Lawi ma gin jodolo. Nus mar jo-Israel nochungʼ kochomo got Gerizim, to nus mar jo-Israel mamoko nochungʼ kochomo got Ebal mana kaka Musa ma jatich Jehova Nyasaye nosechiko chon kane ochiwo nonro mar gwedho jo-Israel.
All Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, stood on this side of the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, who carried the ark of the LORD's covenant, the foreigner as well as the native; half of them in front of Mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded at the first, that they should bless the children of Israel.
34 Bangʼ mano, Joshua nosomo weche mag chik ma gin, gweth gi kwongʼ mana kaka ondikgi e Kitap Chik mar Musa.
Afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
35 Onge chik Musa mane Joshua oweyo ma ok osomo ni kanyakla mar Israel duto, kaachiel gi mon, gi nyithindo, kod jopinje mamoko mane odak e diergi.
There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, with the women, the little ones, and the foreigners who were among them.
