< Chakruok 34 >

1 Chiengʼ moro Dina, nyar Jakobo mane Lea onywolone nodhi limo nyi pinyno.
Then went forth Dinah, the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, —to see the daughters of the land.
2 Kane Shekem wuod Hamor ja-Hivi ma jatend gwengʼno, nonene, nomake moterore kode.
And Shechem, son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the land, saw her, —so he took her, and lay with her, and humbled her.
3 Chunye nokete kuom Dina nyar Jakobo omiyo nohere kendo nowuoyo kode gi ngʼwono mathoth.
And his soul clave unto Dinah, daughter of Jacob, —and he loved the young woman, and spake to the heart of the young woman.
4 Kendo Shekem nowacho ni wuon mare Hamor niya, “Nyuomna nyakoni obed chiega.”
Then spake Shechem unto Hamor his father, saying, —Take me this girl to wife!
5 Kane Jakobo owinjo ni Dina nyare osedwany to ne ok owacho gimoro nyaka yawuote noduogo dala koa kwayo jambe.
Now, Jacob, had heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter, but, his sons, happened to be with his cattle in the field, —so Jacob kept quiet until they came in.
6 Eka Hamor ma wuon Shekem nodhi mowuoyo gi Jakobo.
Then came forth Hamor, father of Shechem, unto Jacob, —to speak with him.
7 Kane yawuot Jakobo owinjo gima nosetimore, negidwogo dala mapiyo nono ka gia kuonde mag kwath. Igi nowangʼ ahinya kendo negikuyo, nikech tim anjawo mane Shekem osetimo ni Dina nyamin-gi e piny Israel, tim mamono ma ok owinjore.
Now the sons of Jacob came in from the field as soon as they heard, and the men were grieved, and it was vexing to them exceedingly, —for, a disgraceful deed, had he done with Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter, seeing that so, it should not be done.
8 To Hamor nowacho ne Jakobo niya, “Wuoda Shekem chunye oseketo kuom nyari. Asayi yie ichiw nyari obed jaod Shekem.
So then Hamor spake with them saying—As for Shechem my son, his soul hath become attached to your daughter, —I pray you give her to him, to wife.
9 Wakend nyiu to un bende ukend nyiwa.
And exchange ye daughters with us in marriage, —your daughters, shall ye give to us, and our daughters, shall ye take to you.
10 Unyalo dak e dierwa; pinyni en maru dagieuru, timeuru ohala kendo uyudieuru giu uwegi.”
And with us, shall ye dwell, —and, the land, shall be before you, tarry, and go through it, and get possessions therein.
11 Eka Shekem nowacho ne wuon Dina kod owete Dina niya, “timnauru ngʼwono kendo abiro miyou gimoro amora ma ukwayo.”
Then said Shechem unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find favour in your eyes, —and, whatsoever ye may say unto me, will I give:
12 Nyisauru gik ma onego anyuomnu kata ma onego amiu kaka uhero, kendo abiro chulou gimoro amora ma ukwaya ka uyie miye nyaminu.
Heap on me, exceedingly, dowry and gift, and I will give, just as ye may say unto me, —but give me the young woman, to wife.
13 Yawuot Jakobo nodwoko Shekem gi Hamor wuon mare ka giwuondore nikech Shekem nosedwanyo Dina nyamin-gi.
And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and spake (because he had defiled Dinah their sister)—
14 Negiwachonegi niya, “Ok wanyal timo gima kamano; ok wanyal chiwo nyaminwa ne ngʼama ok oter nyangu, mano dibed wichkuot ne wan.
and said unto them—We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to a man that is uncircumcised, —for a reproach, it would be to us.
15 Wabiro yienu mana ka utimo gimoro achielni: mondo ubed kaka wan ka utero yawuotu duto nyangu.
Only herein, can we consent to you, —If ye will become like us, by circumcising to you every male,
16 Eka wabiro miyou nyiwa kendo wan bende wabiro kawo nyiu. Wabiro dak kodu kendo wabiro bedo oganda achiel.
then will we give our daughters to you, and your daughters, will we take to us, —and we will dwell with you, and become one people.
17 To ka ok unyal yie mondo oteru nyangu to wabiro kawo nyaminwa mi wadhigo.”
But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised, then will we take our daughter and be gone.
18 Gima negiwachono nonenore maber ne Hamor kod wuode Shekem.
And their words looked fair in the eyes of Hamor, —and in the eyes of Shechem, Hamor’s son;
19 Omiyo Shekem mane omi duongʼ e od wuon-gi, ne ok odeko timo gima ne yawuot Jakobo owacho, nikech nomor gi Dina nyar Jakobo.
and the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter, —he, moreover being more honourable than all the house of his father.
20 Kuom mano Hamor gi wuode Shekem nodhi e dhoranga dalagi mondo giwuo gi jothurgi.
So Hamor entered with Shechem his son into the gate of their city, —and they spake unto the men of their city, saying:
21 Negiwachonegi niya, “Jogi gin osiepewa. We gidag e pinywa kendo gilokie; pinywani duongʼ moromogi. Wanyalo kendo nyigi kendo gin bende ginyalo kendo nyiwa.
As for these men, in peace, they are with us—let them therefore dwell in the land and go through it, for, the land, lo! it is roomy on both hands before them, —their daughters, let us take to us for wives, and our daughters, let us give to them.
22 Ok ginyal yie dak kodwa mondo wabed oganda achiel kodgi makmana ka chwo duto oter nyangu mana kaka gin.
Only herein, will the men consent to us, to dwell with us, to become one people, —If we circumcise to us every male, even as they are circumcised.
23 Donge kwethgi, gi gigegi kod jambgi duto biro bedo mawa? Omiyo ka wayie timo kamano eka giniyie dak kodwa.”
Their herds and their substance, and all their beasts, shall they, not be, ours? Only, we must consent to them, that they may dwell with us.
24 Ji duto mane odhi e dhoranga dala noyie gi Hamor kod Shekem wuode kendo chwo duto mane ni e dalano noter nyangu.
And they hearkened unto Hamor, and unto Shechem his son, even all that were going forth out of the gate of his city, —and every male was circumcised, all that were going forth out of the gate of his city.
25 Bangʼ ndalo adek kane pod gin kod rem, yawuot Jakobo ariyo, Simeon kod Lawi mowete Dina, nokawo gigegi mag lweny mi gidonjo e dala jogo apoya kendo ginego joma chwo duto.
And it came to pass on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of the sons of Jacob Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, took each man his sword, and came in upon the city, boldly, —and slew every, male;
26 Neginego Hamor gi Shekem wuode, eka negigolo Dina e od Shekem mi giago.
Hamor also, and Shechem his son, slew they with the edge of the sword, —and took Dinah out of the house of Shechem, and came forth,
27 Yawuot Jakobo mamoko nomonjo joma ne owetegi osenego mi giyako dala maduongʼni nikech jogo nosekuodo wi nyamin-gi.
The sons of Jacob, came in upon the slain and plundered the city, —because they had defiled their sister:
28 Negipeyo kwethgi gi dhogi gi pundegi kod gigegi duto mane ni e dala kod mago mane ni oko e pap.
their flocks, and their herds and their asses, —and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field, they took;
29 Negikawo mwandugi duto, mondgi duto, nyithindgi duto kod gik moko duto mane ni e udi.
and all their wealth and all their little ones, and their women, took they captive, and seized as plunder, —even all that was in their houses.
30 Eka Jakobo nowacho ne Simeon gi Lawi niya, “Usekelona chandruok maduongʼ ka umiya nying marach e kind jo-Kanaan kod jo-Perizi, ma weg pinyni. Wan ji manok, kendo kagiriworenwa mondo giked kodwa e lweny, to an kod oda ibiro tieka.”
Then said Jacob unto Simeon and unto Levi—Ye have troubled me by making me odious among them that dwell in the land, among the Canaanites, and among the Perizzites, —I, having only men that may be counted, they will gather themselves, together against me and smite me, —and I shall be destroyed both I and my house.
31 To negidwoko wuon-gi niya, “Bende en gima ber mondo timne nyaminwa tim marach mane otimne cha?”
And they said, —As with a harlot, was he to deal with our sister.
