< Ezra 9 >
1 Bangʼ ka magi duto nosetim, jotelo nobiro ira kendo owacho niya, “Jo-Israel kaachiel gi jodolo kod jo-Lawi, ok osethegore gi joma ne gikiewogo kuom yoregi mamono, kaka mago mag jo-Kanaan, jo-Hiti, jo-Perizi, jo-Jebus, jo-Amon, jo-Moab, jo-Misri kod jo-Amor.
Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, [doing] according to their abominations, [even] of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.
2 Gisekawo nyi joma ok jo-Yahudi, makoro odak e pinygi, kendo yawuotgi bende gisekendonegi nyi jogo. Kamano, oganda maler mar Nyasaye osedwanyore gi joma ok jo-Yahudi. To jotelo gi jodongo ema osebedo joketho moloyoe jomoko.”
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of [those] lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.
3 Kane awinjo wachno, ne ayiecho kandhona kod lepa, apudho yie wiya kod yie tika mi abedo piny ka an-gi bwok malich.
And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied.
4 Eka jogo duto mane oluoro wach Nyasach Israel nochokore buta nikech gima rach mane joma odwogo koa e twech Babulon otimo. Kendo ne abedo kanyo ka an-gi bwok malich nyaka ochopo sa misango mar odhiambo.
Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.
5 Kane ochopo sa misango mar odhiambo, ne achungo aa kama ne abetie, gi kandhona kod lepa koyiech, mi apodho gi chonga ka atingʼo bedena malo ne Jehova Nyasaye Nyasacha.
And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God,
6 Kendo ne alemo kama: “Nyasacha, an-gi wichkuot malich kod kuyo ma ok anyal tingʼo wangʼa malo kangʼiyi, nikech richowa boyo moyombo wiyewa kendo kethowa osechopo e polo.
And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over [our] head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.
7 Koa e ndalo mar kwerewa nyaka chil kawuono, wasebedo joketho ahinya. Nikech richo ma wasetimo, ruodhi mag pinje mamoko osenegowa kaachiel gi ruodhiwa kod jodolo mag-wa kendo giseterowa e twech kendo yako gigewa, mi wasebedo gi wichkuot maduongʼ nyaka chil kawuono.
Since the days of our fathers [have] we [been] in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, [and] our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as [it is] this day.
8 “To koro sani, kuom kinde matin, Jehova Nyasaye ma Nyasachwa osebedo jangʼwono moweyonwa joma otony kendo omiyowa kama wanyalo dakie e kari maler mar lemo. Isedwogo chunywa, kendo iweyonwa thuolo mondo dendwa oduogi e twech ma wantiereni.
And now for a little space grace hath been [shewed] from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.
9 Kata bed ni wan wasumbini kamano, to Nyasachwa pod ok ojwangʼowa e twech marwa. Osemiyowa ngʼwonone e nyim wangʼ ruodhi mag Pasia: Osemiyowa ngima manyien mondo oger manyien od Nyasachwa, to bende wager kuonde momukore, kendo osebedonwa kaka ohinga molworo Juda kod Jerusalem.
For we [were] bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
10 “To sani, yaye Nyasachwa, en angʼo ma wanyalo wacho bangʼ ma? Nimar ok waseluoro chike
And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,
11 mane imiyowa kokalo kuom jotichni ma jonabi, kiwacho ni, ‘Piny ma udonje mondo ukaw en piny mopongʼ gi anjawo mag joge. Kuom timbegi mamono gisepongʼo pinyni gi chido margi koa giko koni nyaka giko kocha.
Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.
12 Emomiyo, kik uchiw nyiu mondo kend gi yawuotgi, kata kawo nyigi ne yawuotu. Kik ubed gi singruok mar osiep kodgi sa moro amora, mondo omi ubed motegno kendo ucham gik mabeyo mag pinyni kendo uweye ne nyithindu kaka girkeni manyaka chiengʼ.’
Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave [it] for an inheritance to your children for ever.
13 “Gima osetimorenwa en nikech timbewa mamono kod kethowa ma ok odhi kare, to kata kamano, Nyasachwa, ne ok ikumowa moromore gi richowago, to niweyo jowa otony, mi wabedo thuolo kaka koroni.
And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities [deserve], and hast given us [such] deliverance as this;
14 Bende dwachak waketh chikegi kendo wanywomre gi joma timo timbe mamono kama? Donge iyi diwangʼ kodwa matek madimi itiekwa, maonge ngʼama ditony kata achiel?
Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed [us], so that [there should be] no remnant nor escaping?
15 Yaye Jehova Nyasaye, ma Nyasach Israel, in ja-ratiro! Owewa odiechiengni kaka joma otony. Eri wan e nyimi kaka joricho ma bura oloyo, kendo nikech richowago, onge ngʼato kuomwa manyalo chungo e nyimi.”
O LORD God of Israel, thou [art] righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as [it is] this day: behold, we [are] before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.
