< Daniel 1 >
1 E higa mar adek mar loch Jehoyakim, ruodh Juda, Nebukadneza ruodh Babulon nobiro Jerusalem molwore gi jolweny mondo okawe.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
2 Bangʼe Jehova Nyasaye nochiwo Jehoyakim ruodh Juda e lwete, kaachiel gi gik moko mitiyogo e hekalu mar Nyasaye. Notingʼo gigi motero nyaka e hekalu mar nyasache, man Babulon, kendo noketogi ei od kano mwandu mar nyasache.
The Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god. He brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.
3 Eka ruoth nogolo chik ni Ashpenaz, ma jatelo maduongʼ mar jotij od ngʼado bura mondo okelne jo-Israel moko mogen mane oa e anywola joka ruoth,
The king spoke to Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the children of Israel, even of the royal offspring and of the nobles:
4 ma gin yawuowi matindo man-gi chia maonge songa, molony e migepe duto mag rieko, mosomo malach, ma wach donjonegi piyo kendo mowinjore gi tiyo e od ruoth. Ne onego opuonjgi dho jo-Babulon kaachiel gi weche mamoko mag jo-Babulon.
youths in whom was no defect, but well-favoured, skilful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding science, and who had the ability to stand in the king’s palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the language of the Kasdim.
5 Ruoth noketonigi chiemo mar odiechiengʼ kodiechiengʼ moromogi kod kongʼo moa e mesane. Ne onego otieggi kuom higni adek bangʼe gichak tiyo ka ruoth.
The king appointed for them a daily portion of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished three years, that at its end they should stand before the king.
6 Kuom joma noa e dhood Juda ne gin: Daniel, Hanania, Mishael gi Azaria.
Now amongst these of the children of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
7 Jatelo maduongʼ nomiyogi nying manyien machal kama: Daniel nochako ni Belteshazar; Hanania nochako ni Shadrak; Mishael nochako ni Meshak; to Azaria nochako ni Abednego.
The prince of the eunuchs gave names to them: to Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.
8 Daniel to nongʼado e chunye ni ok nobed mogak kuom chamo chiemo kendo madho divai moa e od ruoth, omiyo nokwayo jatelo maduongʼ thuolo mondo oweye kik ocham chiemo mogakgo.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank. Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
9 Nyasaye nosemiyo jatelo maduongʼ obedo mangʼwon gi Daniel,
Now God made Daniel find kindness and compassion in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.
10 to kata kamano jatelono nowachone Daniel niya, “Aluoro ruodha nikech en ema ogolo chik ni mondo uchiem kendo umethi. Angʼo dimi inenri matin moloyo mbesini mamoko? Ka ok atimoni kamano, to onyalo nega.”
The prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink. For why should he see your faces worse looking than the youths who are of your own age? Then you would endanger my head with the king.”
11 Eka Daniel nowachone jarit mane jatelo maduongʼ oketo mondo orit Daniel, Hanania, Mishael gi Azaria niya,
Then Daniel said to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
12 “Kiyie to tem ane jotichni kuom ndalo apar; ka ok imiyowa gimoro amora makmana alot gi pi modho.
“Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.
13 Bangʼ mano to ipimwa gi yawuowi mamoko machamo chiemo moa e od ruoth mondo ineane ka bende nitie pogruok, eka itim ne jotichni kaluwore gi gima ineno.”
Then let our faces be examined before you, and the face of the youths who eat of the king’s delicacies; and as you see, deal with your servants.”
14 Omiyo ne oyie gi wachno mi otemogi kuom ndalo apar.
So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days.
15 Bangʼ ndalo apargo ndendgi ne ber moloyo mar yawuowi mane chamo chiemo moa e od ruoth.
At the end of ten days, their faces appeared fairer and they were fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate of the king’s delicacies.
16 Kuom mano, jaritono ne ok omiyogi chiemb od ruoth kod divai, to ne omiyogi mana alot kende.
So the steward took away their delicacies and the wine that they were given to drink, and gave them vegetables.
17 Nyasaye nomiyo yawuowi angʼwen-go, ngʼeyo gi lony mar winjo tiend kit ndiko duto gi puonjruok. Kendo Daniel ne nigi rieko matut mar loko tiend fweny ka fweny kod lek ka lek.
Now as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18 Kane ochopo kinde mane onego ter yawuowigo ir ruoth, jatelo maduongʼ nokelogi e nyim Nebukadneza.
At the end of the days which the king had appointed for bringing them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Ruoth nowuoyo kodgi, kendo ne ok oyudo ngʼama ne nyalo romo gi Daniel, Hanania, Mishael kod Azaria, omiyo yawuowi angʼwen-go nochako tiyo ne ruoth.
The king talked with them; and amongst them all was found no one like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore stood they before the king.
20 E kit rieko duto gi lony kuom winjo tiend weche matek mane ruoth otemogie gi penjo, noyudo ka giriek moloyo ajuoke gi jokor wach duto mane ni e pinyruodhe duto nyadipar.
In every matter of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters who were in all his realm.
21 Kendo Daniel nodhi nyime katiyo kanyo nyaka higa mokwongo mar loch mar ruoth miluongo ni Sairas.
Daniel continued even to the first year of King Cyrus.
