1 E higa mar adek mar loch Hoshea wuod Ela ruodh Israel, Hezekia wuod Ahaz ruodh Juda nodoko ruoth.
Now in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
2 Ne en ja-higni piero ariyo gabich kane obedo ruoth, kendo norito piny kuom higni piero ariyo gochiko, kodak Jerusalem. Min mare ne nyinge Abija nyar Zekaria.
He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.
3 Notimo gima kare e nyim wangʼ Jehova Nyasaye, mana kaka kwar mare Daudi notimo.
He did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes, according to all that David his father had done.
4 Nomuko kuonde motingʼore malo mag lemo, mi otoyo kite milamo kendo ongʼado sirni milamo mag Ashera. Ne otoyo matindo tindo thuond mula mane Musa oloso, nikech nyaka chop ndalono jo-Israel nosebedo kawangʼo ne ubani (ne iluonge ni Nehushtan).
He removed the high places, broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah. He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, because in those days the children of Israel burnt incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.
5 Hezekia ne ogeno kuom Jehova Nyasaye ma Nyasach Israel. Ne onge ngʼama osechalo kode e dier ruodhi duto mag Juda, bedni negisebedo e loch chon kata bangʼe.
He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel, so that after him was no one like him amongst all the kings of Judah, nor amongst them that were before him.
6 Ne osiko kogeno kuom Jehova Nyasaye mi ok noweyo luwe; kendo ne orito chike mane Jehova Nyasaye omiyo Musa.
For he joined with the LORD. He didn’t depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.
7 Jehova Nyasaye ne ni kode, kendo ne odhi maber e gik moko duto mane otimo. Nongʼanyone ruodh Asuria kendo ne ok otiyone.
The LORD was with him. Wherever he went, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria, and didn’t serve him.
8 Noloyo jo-Filistia chakre kuonde ngʼicho motingʼore gi malo nyaka dala maduongʼ mochiel motegno, mochopo nyaka Gaza gi mier mokiewo kode.
He struck the Philistines to Gaza and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.
9 E higa mar angʼwen mar loch Hezekia, ma en higa mar abiriyo mar Hoshea wuod Ela ruodh Israel, Shalmaneser ruodh Asuria nomonjo Samaria kendo jolweny nolwore.
In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it.
10 Bangʼ higni adek, jo-Asuria nokaw Samaria. Omiyo Samaria nokaw e higa mar auchiel mar loch Hezekia mane en higa mar ochiko mar Hoshea ruodh Israel.
At the end of three years they took it. In the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
11 Ruodh Asuria nodaro jo-Israel motero e twech e piny Asuria kendo noketogi gidak Hala, Gozan man e bath Aora Habor kaachiel gi mier mag Medes.
The king of Assyria carried Israel away to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,
12 Ma notimore nikech ne ok girito chike Jehova Nyasaye ma Nyasachgi, to negiketho singruok mane Musa jatich Jehova Nyasaye ochikogi. Kata kamano ne ok girito chikene kata timo dwarone.
because they didn’t obey the LORD their God’s voice, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear it or do it.
13 E higa mar apar gangʼwen mar loch Ruoth Hezekia, Senakerib ruodh Asuria nomonjo mier madongo duto mochiel motegno mag Juda mokawogi.
Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.
14 Omiyo Hezekia ruodh Juda nooro wach ne ruodh Asuria ka en Lakish kowacho kama: “Aseketho, koro yie iwe kedo koda nikech abiro chulo gimoro amora midwaro.” Ruodh Asuria nokawo kuom Hezekia ruodh Juda fedha ma pekne romo kilo alufu apar gi dhahabu ma pekne romo kilo alufu achiel.
Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “I have offended you. Withdraw from me. That which you put on me, I will bear.” The king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
15 Omiyo Hezekia nomiye fedha duto mane oyud e hekalu mar Jehova Nyasaye to gi ute keno duto mag od ruoth.
Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the LORD’s house and in the treasures of the king’s house.
16 E sa onogo ema ne Hezekia ruodh Juda ne ogolo oko dhahabu mane obawogo dhoudi kod sirni mag hekalu mar Jehova Nyasaye kendo nomiyogi ruodh Asuria.
At that time, Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the LORD’s temple, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
17 Ruodh Asuria nooro jatend jolweny mare maduongʼ, jatend jolweny maluwe to gi jatend lweny motelo e kar kedo kaachiel gi jolweny mangʼeny ir Hezekia Jerusalem ka gia Lakish. Negidhi nyaka Jerusalem ma gichopo e bath Soko man malo nyaka e puoth jaluoko.
The king of Assyria sent Tartan, Rabsaris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. They went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
18 Kane giluongo ruoth, to Eliakim wuod Hilkia jatend od ruoth, Shebna jagoro kendo Joa wuod Asaf mane jachan weche nodhi irgi.
When they had called to the king, Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder came out to them.
19 Jatend lweny nowachonegi niya, “Wachneuru Hezekia kama: “‘Ma e gima ruoth maduongʼ ma ruodh Asuria wacho: En kama nade miketoe genoni momiyo in-gi chir kama?
Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘The great king, the king of Assyria, says, “What confidence is this in which you trust?
20 Uwacho ni un gi rieko kod teko mangʼeny mar lweny, to gik ma uwacho onge tiendgi. En ngʼa ma uketo genou kuome, mamiyo ungʼanyo uweya?
You say (but they are but vain words), ‘There is counsel and strength for war.’ Now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?
21 Neuru, sani koro uketo genou kuom Misri, machalo odundu mobarore ma ka ngʼato orere to opilore mochwo ngʼatno kendo kelo adhola! Mano e kaka Farao ruodh Misri chalo ne joma ogeno kuome.
Now, behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.
22 To ka uwachona niya, “Wan waketo genowa kuom Jehova Nyasaye ma Nyasachwa,” to donge en ema kuondene motingʼore malo kod kendene mag misango Hezekia nogolo kowachone jo-Juda gi jo-Jerusalem niya, “Nyaka ulam mana e nyim kendoni e Jerusalem?”
But if you tell me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ isn’t that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem’?
23 “‘Biuru sani mondo uwinjru gi ruodha, ma en ruodh Asuria: Abiro miyou farese alufu ariyo, ka unyalo yudo joma riembogi!
Now therefore, please give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses if you are able on your part to set riders on them.
24 Ere kaka uparo ni unyalo loyo achiel kuom jotend jolweny matinie moloyo mag ruodha ka uketo genou mana kuom jolwenj Misri gi faresegi?
How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
25 To moloyo, bende dibed ni asebiro monjo kendo ketho dalani ka ok en kuom wach Jehova Nyasaye? Jehova Nyasaye owuon ema osenyisa mondo abi amonj pinyni kendo akethe.’”
Have I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, ‘Go up against this land, and destroy it.’”’”
26 Eka Eliakim wuod Hilkia, Shebna kod Joa nowachone Rabshake jatend lweny niya, “Yie iwuo gi jotichni gi dho jo-Aram, nimar wawinjo dhokno. We wuoyo kodwa gi dho jo-Hibrania nikech joma ni e ohinga nyalo winjo gik miwachonwa.”
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it. Don’t speak with us in the Jews’ language, in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”
27 To Rabshake jatend lweny nodwokogi niya, “Uparo ni un kod ruodhu kendu ema ne ruodha oora iru mondo awachnu wechegi, to ok ne joma obedo ei ohinga; bende ungʼeyo ni jogo kaachiel gi un biro bangʼo chiethgi kendo madho lachgi?”
But Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words? Hasn’t he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?”
28 Eka jatend lweny nochungʼ moluongo matek gi dho jo-Hibrania niya, “Winjuru wach moa kuom ruoth maduongʼ, ma en ruodh Asuria!
Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spoke, saying, “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.
29 Ma e gima ruoth wacho: Kik uyie Hezekia wuondu nikech ok onyal resou e lweta.
The king says, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand.
30 Kik uwe Hezekia hou mondo ugen kuom Jehova Nyasaye kowachonu ni, ‘Jehova Nyasaye biro resowa adier, kendo dala maduongʼni ok nochiw e lwet ruodh Asuria.’
Don’t let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, “The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”
31 “Kik uwinj wach Hezekia. Ma e gima ruodh Asuria wacho: Winjreuru koda kendo biuru ira oko. Bangʼe ngʼato ka ngʼato kuomu nocham mzabibu kod ngʼowu kendo nomodh pi moa e sokone owuon,
Don’t listen to Hezekiah.’ For the king of Assyria says, ‘Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and everyone of you eat from his own vine, and everyone from his own fig tree, and everyone drink water from his own cistern;
32 nyaka chop abi mi ateru e piny machal gi pinyu, ma en piny machiego cham gi divai manyien, piny mopongʼ gi makati kod mzabibu, piny man-gi yiende zeituni kod mor kich. Yieruru ngima, to kik uyier tho! “Kik uwinj wach Hezekia, nimar owuondou kowacho ni, ‘Jehova Nyasaye biro resowa.’
until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you may live and not die. Don’t listen to Hezekiah when he persuades you, saying, “The LORD will deliver us.”
33 Bende nyaka nene nyasach piny moro amora osereso ogandane e lwet ruodh Asuria?
Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
34 Ere nyiseche mag Hamath gi Arpad? Ere nyiseche mag Sefarvaim, Hena kod Iva? Bende ne gireso Samaria e lweta?
Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
35 Kuom nyiseche duto mag pinjegi, en mane mosereso pinye e lweta? To koro ere kaka Jehova Nyasaye nyalo reso Jerusalem e lweta?”
Who are they amongst all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”
36 To ji duto nolingʼ thi maonge ngʼama dwoko nimar ruoth Hezekia nosegolo chik niya, “Kik udwoke.”
But the people stayed quiet, and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was, “Don’t answer him.”
37 Eka Eliakim wuod Hilkia jatend od ruoth, gi Shebna jagoro kod Joa wuod Asaf jachan weche mag piny nodhi ir Hezekia, ka lepgi oyiech kendo negiwachone gima jatend lwenyno osewacho.
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, came with Shebna the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him Rabshakeh’s words.
