< 1 Samuel 23 >

1 Kane owach ne Daudi niya, “Ne jo-Filistia kedo gi jo-Keila kendo giyako gik man e laru mar dino cham,”
David was told, “Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbing the threshing floors.”
2 nopenjo Jehova Nyasaye niya, “Bende owinjore adhi kendo amonj jo-Filistia-gi?” Jehova Nyasaye nodwoke niya, “Dhiyo, mondo imonj jo-Filistia kendo ires Keila.”
Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go and strike these Philistines?” The LORD said to David, “Go strike the Philistines, and save Keilah.”
3 To jo-Daudi nowachone niya, “Ka Juda ka ema waluorie. Dobednwa machalo nade ka wadhi Keila mondo waked gi jolweny mag Filistia!”
David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”
4 Daudi nopenjo Jehova Nyasaye kendo mi Jehova Nyasaye nodwoke ne, “Lor idhi Keila nimar adhi chiwo jo-Filistia e lweti.”
Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. The LORD answered him, and said, “Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.”
5 Omiyo Daudi gi joge nodhi Keila, mokedo gi jo-Filistia kendo opeyo jambgi. Nonego jo-Filistia mangʼeny mine oreso jo-Keila.
David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their livestock, and killed them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
6 Koro Abiathar wuod Ahimelek nosebiro gi law mayom mar dolo miluongo ni efod e kinde mane oringo kodhi ir Daudi Keila.
When Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, he came down with an ephod in his hand.
7 Nowach ne Saulo ni Daudi nosedhi Keila, omiyo nowacho niya, “Nyasaye osechiwe e lweta, nimar Daudi osetwere owuon ka odonjo e dala man-gi rangeye kod lodi.”
Saul was told that David had come to Keilah. Saul said, “God has delivered him into my hand, for he is shut in by entering into a town that has gates and bars.”
8 Omiyo Saulo noluongo joge duto makedo ne lweny, mondo gilor gidhi Keila kendo gigengʼ ne Daudi gi joge.
Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.
9 Kane Daudi owinjo ni Saulo chano yor yude nowachone Abiathar jadolo niya, “Kel law akor mar law mayom mar dolo miluongo ni efod.”
David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him. He said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod here.”
10 Daudi nowacho niya, “Yaye Jehova Nyasaye ma Nyasach Israel, jatichni osewinjo gadiera ni Saulo chano biro Keila mondo oketh dala nikech an.
Then David said, “O LORD, the God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city for my sake.
11 Bende jo-Keila nochiwane? To bende Saulo biro biro ka kaka jatichni osewinjo? Yaye Jehova Nyasaye ma Nyasach Israel, nyis jatichni.” Eka Jehova Nyasaye nodwoko niya, “Obiro biro.”
Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? LORD, the God of Israel, I beg you, tell your servant.” The LORD said, “He will come down.”
12 Daudi nopenjo kendo niya, “Jo-Keila biro chiwa kaachiel gi joga ne Saulo.” To Jehova Nyasaye nowacho niya, “Gibiro timo kamano.”
Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?” The LORD said, “They will deliver you up.”
13 Omiyo Daudi gi joge maromo mia auchiel, nowuok Keila mine giwuotho koni gi kocha ka gisiko gidar. Kane Saulo owinjo ni Daudi nosetony mowuok Keila ne ok odhi kuno.
Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah and went wherever they could go. Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah; and he gave up going there.
14 Daudi nodak e kuonde mag pondo manie thim kendo e gode mag Thim Zif; odiechiengʼ ka odiechiengʼ Saulo ne osiko ka dware, to Nyasaye ne ok oketo Daudi e lwete.
David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God didn’t deliver him into his hand.
15 Kane Daudi ni Horesh man e thim Zif noyudo wach ni Saulo nosewuok mondo otiek ngimane.
David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph in the woods.
16 To Jonathan wuod Saulo nodhi Horesh ir Daudi mokonye koduogo chunye mondo oyud teko moa kuom Nyasaye.
Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David into the woods, and strengthened his hand in God.
17 Nowacho niya, “Kik iluor. Saulo wuora ok bi timi gimoro. Ibiro bedo ruodh Israel, to an abiro bedo jalupni. Kata Saulo wuora ongʼeyo mano.”
He said to him, “Don’t be afraid, for the hand of Saul my father won’t find you; and you will be king over Israel, and I will be next to you; and Saul my father knows that also.”
18 Kargi ji ariyogi negisingore e nyim Jehova Nyasaye. Eka Jonathan nodhi dala to Daudi to nodongʼ Horesh.
They both made a covenant before the LORD. Then David stayed in the woods and Jonathan went to his house.
19 Jo-Zif nodhi Gibea ir Saulo mi giwachone ne, “Donge Daudi opondo kuomwa e kuonde pondo Horesh ewi got Hakila, mantie yo milambo mar Jeshimon?
Then the Ziphites came up to Saul to Gibeah, saying, “Doesn’t David hide himself with us in the strongholds in the woods, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of the desert?
20 Koroni, yaye Ruoth, inyalo biro sa moro amora midwaro biroe, to obiro bedo wachwa mondo wachiwe ne ruoth.”
Now therefore, O king, come down. According to all the desire of your soul to come down; and our part will be to deliver him up into the king’s hand.”
21 Saulo nodwoko niya, “Jehova Nyasaye mondo ogwedhu kuom timona maber.
Saul said, “You are blessed by the LORD, for you have had compassion on me.
22 Dhiuru kendo umed ikoru. Nonuru mondo ungʼe kuma Daudi jadhiyoe kod ngʼat mosenene kuno. Gisenyisa ni en ngʼama yoreyore ahinya.
Please go make yet more sure, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who has seen him there; for I have been told that he is very cunning.
23 Nonuru konde duto mopondoe gi kuonde duto motiyogo, eka uduogna wach mobidhore. Bangʼe anadhi kodu; ka dipo ni en kanyo, to abiro dware e dhoudi duto mag Juda.”
See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides himself; and come again to me with certainty, and I will go with you. It shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search him out amongst all the thousands of Judah.”
24 Kuom mano ne giwuok mi gidhi Zif motelone Saulo. Daudi gi joge to ne ni e Thim Maon man Araba yo milambo mar Jeshimon.
They arose, and went to Ziph before Saul; but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah on the south of the desert.
25 Saulo gi joge nochako dwero, ka nowach ne Daudi wachno, nolor mwalo e lwanda mi nobet e Thim man Maon. Kane Saulo owinjo ma, nodhi e Thim man Maon kolawo Daudi.
Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told, he went down to the rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard that, he pursued David in the wilderness of Maon.
26 Saulo ne dhi e bath got konchiel to Daudi gi joge ne ni e bathe kumachielo, ka giringo mondo gi yomb Saulo. Ka Saulo gi jolwenje ne chiegni juko Daudi gi joge mondo gimakgi,
Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David hurried to get away for fear of Saul, for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them.
27 jaote nobiro ir Saulo, mowacho niya, “Bi piyo! Jo-Filistia osebiro monjo piny.”
But a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, for the Philistines have made a raid on the land!”
28 Eka Saulo noweyo lawo Daudi mi odhi rado gi jo-Filistia. Mano emomiyo iluongo kanyo ni Sela Hamalekoth.
So Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place Sela Hammahlekoth.
29 To Daudi nodhi malo koa kanyo modak e kuonde pondo mag En Gedi.
David went up from there and lived in the strongholds of En Gedi.
