< 1 Samuel 16 >
1 Jehova Nyasaye nowachone Samuel niya, “Ibiro kuyo ne wach Saulo nyaka karangʼo nikech asedage mondo kik obed ruodh Israel? Pongʼ tungʼ mari gi mo mondo ichak wuoth; aori ka Jesse ma ja-Bethlehem. Aseyiero achiel kuom yawuote mondo obed ruoth.”
And the LORD said to Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thy horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
2 To Samuel nopenje niya, “Dadhi nade? Saulo biro winjo wachno to obiro nega.” Jehova Nyasaye nowacho niya, “Kaw nyaroya idhigo kendo iwachne ni abiro timo misango ne Jehova Nyasaye.
And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul shall hear [it], he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take a heifer with thee, and say, I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.
3 Luong Jesse e sawo mar misango, to abiro nyisi gima onego itim. Ibiro wirona ngʼat mabiro nyisi.”
And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint to me [him] whom I name to thee.
4 Samuel notimo gima Jehova Nyasaye nowacho. Kane ochopo Bethlehem, to jodong dala ne luoro omako kane giromo kode. Negipenje niya, “Bende ibiro e yor kwe?”
And Samuel did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Beth-lehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?
5 Samuel nodwoko niya, “Ee, abiro e yor kwe. Asebiro mondo atim misango ni Jehova Nyasaye. Pwodhreuru mondo ubi e misango koda.” Eka nopwodho Jesse gi yawuote mi noluongogi e timo misangono.
And he said, Peaceably: I have come to sacrifice to the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
6 Kane gichopo, Samuel noneno Eliab moparo niya, “Adier ngʼat Jehova Nyasaye mowiro eri ochungʼ ka e nyime.”
And it came to pass when they had come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD'S anointed [is] before him.
7 To Jehova Nyasaye nowachone Samuel niya, “Kik ingʼi ber mar dende kata borne nikech asedage. Jehova Nyasaye ok ngʼi gik ma dhano ngʼiyo. Dhano ngʼiyo ber ma oko, Jehova Nyasaye to ngʼiyo chuny.”
But the LORD said to Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the hight of his stature; because I have refused him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
8 Eka Jesse noluongo Abinadab kendo nokete okadho e nyim Samuel. Samuel to nowacho niya, “Jehova Nyasaye ok oyiero kata ngʼatni.”
Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.
9 Eka Jesse noketo Shama mondo okadhi, to Samuel nowacho niya, “Kata mana ngʼatni bende Jehova Nyasaye ok oyiero.”
Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.
10 Jesse noketo yawuote abiriyo okadho e nyim Samuel mi Samuel nowachone ni onge ngʼama Jehova Nyasaye oseyiero kuomgi.
Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.
11 Omiyo nopenjo Jesse niya, “Magi kende e yawuoti?” Jesse nodwoko niya, “Pod nitiere wuowi ma chogo, en to okwayo rombe.” Samuel nowachone niya, “Or ngʼato mondo oome, nikech ok wabi bet piny ka kapok ochopo.”
And Samuel said to Jesse, Are here all [thy] children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him: for we will not sit down till he hath come hither.
12 Ne ooro jaote mine okele. Ne en silwal man-gi ngima maber, ne dende nenore maber kendo ne en jachia. Eka Jehova Nyasaye nowacho niya, “Chungi iwire gi mo; nikech ngʼatni e en.”
And he sent, and brought him in. Now he [was] ruddy, [and] also of a beautiful countenance, and a good appearance. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this [is] he.
13 Omiyo Samuel nokawo tungʼne mar mo mine owire e nyim owetene kendo kochakore chiengʼno Roho mar Jehova Nyasaye nobiro kuom Daudi gi teko. Bangʼe Samuel to nodok Rama.
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose, and went to Ramah.
14 Roho mar Jehova Nyasaye noseweyo Saulo kendo Jehova Nyasaye nochiwo thuolo mondo roho marach othage.
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
15 Jotich Saulo nowachone niya, “Ngʼe ni roho marach machandini, Nyasaye ema ochiwone thuolo.
And Saul's servants said to him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.
16 We ruodhwa ochik jotichne man kagi mondo odwar ngʼat manyalo goyo nyatiti. Obiro goye e kindeno ma roho marach ma Nyasaye omiyo thuolo obiro kuomi to iniwinj maber.”
Let our lord now command thy servants, [who are] before thee, to seek a man [who is] a skillful player on a harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he will play with his hand, and thou wilt be well.
17 Eka Saulo nowachone jotije niya, “Dwaruru ngʼat magoyo thum maber mondo ukelna.”
And Saul said to his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring [him] to me.
18 Achiel kuom jotich nodwoko niya, “Aseneno wuod Jesse moro ma ja-Bethlehem mongʼeyo goyo nyatiti. En ngʼat ma jachir bende en jalweny. Owuoyo maber kendo en jaber. To bende Jehova Nyasaye ni kode.”
Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-lehemite, [that is] skillful in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD [is] with him.
19 Eka Saulo nooro joote ir Jesse kawacho niya, “Orna wuodi Daudi makwayo rombe.”
Wherefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, Send to me David thy son, who [is] with the sheep.
20 Eka Jesse nokawo punda mokawo makati oketo e ngʼeye, ndede mar divai kod nyadiel mi nooro Daudi ma wuode oterone Saulo.
And Jesse took an ass [laden] with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent [them] by David his son to Saul.
21 Daudi nobiro ir Saulo mi nodonjo mochako tiyone. Saulo nohere ahinya, kendo Daudi nobedo achiel kuom jatingʼne gige lweny.
And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armor-bearer.
22 Eka Saulo nooro wach ni Jesse, kowacho niya, “Yie mondo Daudi obed jatija, nikech amor kode.”
And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favor in my sight.
23 E kinde duto ma Roho mar Nyasaye nobiro kuom Saulo, Daudi to ne kawo nyatiti kendo goyo. Saulo ne yudo kwe; kendo nochako winjo maber, eka roho marach ne weye.
And it came to pass, when the [evil] spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took a harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
