1 Hvo Nakken gør stiv, skønt revset tit, han knuses brat uden Lægedom.
He who, being often reproved, hardeneth his neck, Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2 Er der mange retfærdige, glædes Folket, men råder de gudløse, sukker Folket.
When the righteous are powerful, the people rejoice; But when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
3 Hvo Visdom elsker, glæder sin Fader, hvo Skøger omgås, bortødsler Gods.
He who loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; But he who is a companion of harlots destroyeth his substance.
4 Kongen grundfæster Landet med Ret, en Udsuger lægger det øde.
A king by equity establisheth a land; But he who receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
5 Mand, der smigrer sin Næste, breder et Net for hans Fod.
A man who flattereth his neighbor Spreadeth a net for his feet.
6 I sin Brøde hildes den onde, den retfærdige jubler af Glæde.
In the transgression of a wicked man there is a snare; But the righteous shall sing and rejoice.
7 Den retfærdige kender de ringes Retssag; den gudløse skønner intet.
A righteous man careth for the cause of the poor; A wicked man discerneth not knowledge.
8 Spottere ophidser Byen, men Vismænd, de stiller Vrede.
Scoffers kindle a city into a flame; But wise men pacify wrath.
9 Går Vismand i Rette med Dåre, vredes og ler han, alt preller af.
If a wise man contend in a cause with a fool, Whether he rage or laugh, there will be no rest.
10 De blodtørstige hader lydefri Mand, de retsindige tager sig af ham.
The bloodthirsty man hateth the upright; But the righteous seek to preserve his life.
11 En Tåbe slipper al sin Voldsomhed løs, Vismand stiller den omsider.
A fool letteth all his anger come out; But a wise man keepeth it back.
12 En Fyrste, som lytter til Løgnetale, får lufter gudløse Tjenere.
If a ruler listen to words of falsehood, All his servants become wicked.
13 Fattigmand og Blodsuger mødes, HERREN giver begges Øjne Glans.
The poor man and the oppressor meet together: The LORD giveth light to the eyes of them both.
14 En Konge, der dømmer de ringe med Ret, hans Trone står fast evindelig.
The king that judgeth the poor with uprightness, His throne shall be established for ever.
15 Ris og Revselse, det giver Visdom, uvorn Dreng gør sin Moder Skam.
The rod and reproof give wisdom; But a child left to himself bringeth shame to his mother.
16 Bliver mange gudløse tiltager Synd; retfærdige ser med Fryd deres Fald.
When the wicked are powerful, transgression increaseth; But the righteous shall see their fall.
17 Tugt din Søn, så kvæger han dig og bringer din Sjæl, hvad der smager.
Chastise thy son, and he will give thee rest; Yea, he will give delight to thy soul.
18 Uden Syner forvildes et Folk; salig den, der vogter på Loven.
Where there is no vision, the people become unruly; But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
19 Med Ord lader Træl sig ikke tugte, han fatter dem vel, men adlyder ikke.
A servant will not be corrected by words; For, though he understand, he will not obey.
20 Ser du en Mand, der er hastig til Tale, for en Tåbe er der snarere Håb end for ham.
Seest thou a man hasty in his words? There is more hope of a fool than of him.
21 Forvænner man sin Træl fra ung, vil han til sidst være Herre.
He that bringeth up his servant delicately from childhood Shall have him become a son at the last.
22 Hidsig Mand vækker Strid, vredladen Mand gør megen Synd.
An angry man stirreth up strife, And a passionate man aboundeth in transgression.
23 Et Menneskes Hovmod ydmyger ham, den ydmyge opnår Ære.
A man's pride will bring him low; But he that is of a humble spirit shall obtain honor.
24 Hæleren hader sit Liv, han hører Forbandelsen, men melder intet.
He who shareth with a thief hateth himself: He heareth the curse, but maketh no discovery.
25 Frygt for Mennesker leder i Snare, men den, der stoler på HERREN, er bjærget.
The fear of man bringeth a snare; But whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
26 Mange søger en Fyrstes Gunst; Mands Ret er dog fra HERREN.
Many are they who seek the ruler's favor; But every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.
27 Urettens Mand er retfærdiges Gru, hvo redeligt vandrer, gudløses Gru.
As the unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, So the upright in his way is an abomination to the wicked.
