1 Min Søn, når du tager imod mine ord og gemmer mine Pålæg hos dig,
My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you,
2 idet du låner Visdom Øre og bøjer dit Hjerte til Indsigt,
make your ears pay attention to wisdom and incline your heart to understanding.
3 ja, kalder du på Forstanden og løfter din Røst efter Indsigt,
If you cry out for understanding and raise your voice for it,
4 søger du den som Sølv og leder den op som Skatte,
if you seek it like you would seek silver and search for understanding as you would seek hidden treasures,
5 da nemmer du HERRENs Frygt og vinder dig Kundskab om Gud.
then you will understand the fear of Yahweh and you will find the knowledge of God.
6 Thi HERREN, han giver Visdom, fra hans Mund kommer Kundskab og Indsigt.
For Yahweh gives wisdom, from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
7 Til retsindige gemmer han Lykke, han er Skjold for alle med lydefri Vandel,
He stores up sound wisdom for those who please him, he is a shield for those who walk in integrity,
8 idet han værner Rettens Stier og vogter sine frommes Vej.

9 Da nemmer du Retfærd, Ret og Retsind, hvert et Spor, som er godt.
Then you will understand righteousness, justice, and equity, and every good path.
10 Thi Visdom kommer i dit Hjerte, og Kundskab er liflig for din Sjæl;
For wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Kløgt skal våge over dig, Indsigt være din Vogter -
Discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you.
12 idet den frier dig fra den ondes Vej, fra Folk, hvis Ord kun er vrange, -
They will rescue you from the way of evil, from those who speak perverse things,
13 som går fra de lige Stier for at vandre på Mørkets Veje.
who abandon the right paths and walk in the ways of darkness.
14 som glæder sig ved at gøre ondt og jubler over vrangt og ondt,
They rejoice when they do evil and delight in the perversities of evil.
15 de, som går krogede Stier og følger bugtede Spor -
They follow crooked paths, and using deception they hide their tracks.
16 idet den frier dig fra Andenmands Hustru, fra fremmed Kvinde med sleske Ord,
Wisdom and discretion will save you from an adulterous woman, from an immoral woman and her flattering words.
17 der sviger sin Ungdoms Ven og glemmer sin Guds Pagt;
She forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.
18 thi en Grav til Døden er hendes Hus, til Skyggerne fører hendes Spor;
For her house leads down to death and her tracks will lead you to those in the grave.
19 tilbage vender ingen, som går ind til hende, de når ej Livets Stier
All who go in to her will not return again and they will not find the paths of life.
20 at du må vandre de godes Vej og holde dig til de retfærdiges Stier;
So you will walk in the way of good people and follow the paths of righteous people.
21 thi retsindige skal bo i Landet, lydefri levnes deri,
For those doing right will make a home in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it.
22 men gudløse ryddes af Landet, troløse rykkes derfra.
But the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the faithless will be cut off from it.
