1 Bedre Fattigmand med lydefri færd end en, som går Krogveje, er han end rig.
Better is a poor [man] that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2 At mangle Kundskab er ikke godt, men den træder fejl, som har Hastværk.
Also that a person be without knowledge is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet maketh false steps.
3 Et Menneskes Dårskab øder hans Vej, men på HERREN vredes hans Hjerte.
The folly of man distorteth his way, and his heart is irritated against Jehovah.
4 Gods skaffer mange Venner, den ringe skiller hans Ven sig fra.
Wealth addeth many friends; but the poor is separated from his friend.
5 Det falske Vidne undgår ej Straf; den slipper ikke, som farer med Løgn.
A false witness shall not be held innocent, and he that uttereth lies shall not escape.
6 Mange bejler til Stormands Yndest, og alle er Venner med gavmild Mand.
Many court the favour of a noble; and every one is friend to a man that giveth.
7 Fattigmands Frænder hader ham alle, end mere skyr hans Venner ham da. Ej frelses den, som jager efter Ord.
All the brethren of a poor [man] hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him: he pursueth [them] with words, — they are not [to be found].
8 Den, der vinder Vid, han elsker sin Sjæl, og den, der vogter på Indsigt, får Lykke.
He that getteth sense loveth his own soul; he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

10 Vellevned sømmer sig ikke for Tåbe, end mindre for Træl at herske over Fyrster.
Good living beseemeth not a fool; how much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11 Klogskab gør Mennesket sindigt, hans Ære er at overse Brøde.
The discretion of a man maketh him slow to anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12 Som Brøl af en Løve er Kongens Vrede, som Dug på Græs er hans Gunst.
The king's displeasure is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
13 Tåbelig Søn er sin Faders Ulykke, Kvindekiv er som ustandseligt Tagdryp.
A foolish son is the calamity of his father; and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14 Hus og Gods er Arv efter Fædre, en forstandig Hustru er fra HERREN.
House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers; but a prudent wife is from Jehovah.
15 Dovenskab sænker i Dvale, den lade Sjæl må sulte.
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16 Den vogter sin Sjæl, som vogter på Budet, men skødesløs Vandel fører til Død.
He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul; he that is careless of his ways shall die.
17 Er man god mod den ringe, låner man HERREN, han gengælder en, hvad godt man har gjort.
He that is gracious to the poor lendeth unto Jehovah; and what he hath bestowed will he repay unto him.
18 Tugt din Søn, imens der er Håb, ellers stiler du efter at slå ham ihjel.
Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope; but set not thy soul upon killing him.
19 Den, som er hidsig, må bøde, ved Skånsel gør man det værre.
A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment; for if thou deliver [him], yet thou must do it again.
20 Hør på Råd og tag ved Lære, så du til sidst bliver viis.
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
21 I Mands Hjerte er mange Tanker, men HERRENs Råd er det, der står fast.
Many are the thoughts in a man's heart, but the counsel of Jehovah, that doth stand.
22 Vinding har man af Godhed, hellere fattig end Løgner.
The charm of a man is his kindness; and a poor [man] is better than a liar.
23 HERRENs Frygt er Vej til Liv, man hviler mæt og frygter ej ondt.
The fear of Jehovah [tendeth] to life, and he [that hath it] shall rest satisfied without being visited with evil.
24 Den lade rækker til Fadet, men fører ej Hånden til Munden.
A sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, and will not even bring it to his mouth again.
25 Får Spottere Hug, bliver tankeløs klog, ved Revselse får den forstandige Kundskab.
Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware; reprove the intelligent, and he will understand knowledge.
26 Mishandle Fader og bortjage Moder gør kun en dårlig, vanartet Søn.
He that ruineth [his] father and chaseth away [his] mother is a son that causeth shame and bringeth reproach.
27 Hør op, min Søn, med at høre på Tugt og så fare vild fra Kundskabsord.
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction which causeth to stray from the words of knowledge.
28 Niddingevidne spotter Retten, gudløses Mund er glubsk efter Uret.
A witness of Belial scorneth judgment, and the mouth of the wicked swalloweth down iniquity.
29 Slag er rede til Spottere, Hug til Tåbers Ryg.
Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of the foolish.
