4 Mosebog 25
1 Israeliterne slog sig derpå ned i Sjitim. Men Folket begyndte at bedrive Hor med de moabitiske Kvinder;
And Israel dwells in Shittim, and the people begin to go whoring to daughters of Moab,
2 og da de indbød Folket til deres Guders Slagtofre, spiste Folket deraf og tilbad deres Guder.
and they call for the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people eat and bow themselves to their gods,
3 Og Israel holdt til med Bål Peor; derover blussede HERRENs Vrede op mod Israel,
and Israel is joined to Ba‘al-Peor, and the anger of YHWH burns against Israel.
4 og HERREN sagde til Moses: "Kald alle Folkets Overhoveder sammen og hæng dem op for HERREN under åben Himmel, for at HERRENs Vrede må vige fra Israel!"
And YHWH says to Moses, “Take all the chiefs of the people and hang them before YHWH in sight of the sun; and the fierceness of the anger of YHWH turns back from Israel.”
5 Og Moses sagde til Israeliternes Dommere: "Enhver af eder skal slå dem af sine Mænd ihjel, der har holdt til med Ba'al Peor!"
And Moses says to [the] judges of Israel, “Each slays his men who are joined to Ba‘al-Peor.”
6 Og se, en af Israeliterne kom og førte en midjanitisk Kvinde hen til sine Landsmænd lige for Øjnene af Moses og hele Israeliternes Menighed, medens de stod og græd ved Indgangen til Åbenbaringsteltet.
And behold, a man of the sons of Israel has come, and brings a Midianitess to his brothers before the eyes of Moses and before the eyes of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, who are weeping at the opening of the Tent of Meeting;
7 Da nu Pinehas, Præsten Arons Søn Eleazars Søn, så det, trådte han frem af Menighedens Midte, greb et Spyd,
and Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, sees, and rises from the midst of the congregation, and takes a javelin in his hand,
8 fulgte den israelitiske Mand ind i Sengekammeret og gennemborede dem begge, både den israelitiske Mand og Kvinden, hende gennem Underlivet. Da standsede Plagen blandt Israeliterne.
and goes in after the man of Israel to the hollow place, and pierces them both, the man of Israel and the woman—to her belly, and the plague is restrained from the sons of Israel;
9 Men Tallet på dem, Plagen havde kostet Livet, løb op til 24000.
and the dead by the plague are twenty-four thousand.
10 Da talede HERREN således til Moses:
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
11 Pinehas, Præsten Arons Søn Eleazars Søn, har vendt min Vrede fra Israeliterne, idet han var nidkær iblandt dem med min Nidkærhed, så at jeg ikke tilintetgjorde Israeliterne i min Nidkærhed.
“Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My fury from the sons of Israel by his being zealous with My zeal in their midst, and I have not consumed the sons of Israel in My zeal.
12 Derfor skal du sige: Se, jeg giver ham min Fredspagt!
Therefore say, Behold, I am giving My covenant of peace to him,
13 Et evigt Præstedømmes Pagt skal blive hans og efter ham hans Efterkommeres Lod, til Løn for at han var nidkær for sin Gud og skaffede Israeliterne Soning."
and it has been to him and to his seed after him [for] a covenant of a continuous priesthood, because that he has been zealous for his God, and makes atonement for the sons of Israel.”
14 Den dræbte Israelit, han, der dræbtes sammenmed den midjanitiske kvinde, hed Zimri, Salus Søn, og var Øverste for et Fædrenehus blandt Simeoniterne;
And the name of the man of Israel who is struck, who has been struck with the Midianitess, [is] Zimri son of Salu, prince of the house of a father of the Simeonite;
15 og den dræbte midjanitiske Kvinde hed Hozbi og var en Datter af Zur, der var Stammehøvding for et Fædrenehus blandt Midjaniterne,
and the name of the woman who is struck, the Midianitess, [is] Cozbi daughter of Zur; he [is] head of peoples of a father’s house in Midian.
16 HERREN talede fremdeles til Moses og sagde:
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
17 "Fald over Midjaniterne og slå dem;
“Distress the Midianites, and you have struck them,
18 thi de faldt over eder med de Rænker, de spandt imod eder i den Sag med Peor og med Hozbi, den midjanitiske Høvdings Datter, deres Landsmandinde, der dræbtes, den Dag Plagen brød løs for Peors Skyld."
for they are adversaries to you with their frauds, [with] which they have acted fraudulently to you, concerning the matter of Peor and concerning the matter of Cozbi, daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, who is struck in the day of the plague for the matter of Peor.”
