Anden Krønikebog 17
1 Hans Søn Josafat blev Konge i hans Sted. Han styrkede sin Stilling over for Israel
And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, —and strengthened himself against Israel;
2 ved at lægge Besætning i alle Judas befæstede Byer og indsætte Fogeder i Judas Land og de efraimitiske Byer, hans Fader Asa havde indtaget.
and put forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, —and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had captured.
3 Og HERREN var med Josafat, thi han vandrede de Veje, hans Fader David til at begynde med havde vandret, og søgte ikke hen til Ba'alerne,
And it came to pass, that, Yahweh, was with Jehoshaphat, —because he walked in the first ways of David his father, and sought not unto the Baalim;
4 men til sin Faders Gud og fulgte hans Bud og gjorde ikke som Israel.
for, unto the God of his father, he sought, and, in his commandments, he walked, —and not according to the doing of Israel.
5 Derfor grundfæstede HERREN Kongedømmet i hans Hånd; og hele Juda bragte Josafat Gaver, så han vandt stor Rigdom og Ære.
Therefore did Yahweh establish the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah gave a present unto Jehoshaphat, —and he came to have riches and honour, in abundance.
6 Da voksede hans Mod til at vandre på HERRENs Veje, så han også udryddede Offerhøjene og Asjerastøtterne i Juda.
And his heart was encouraged, in the ways of Yahweh, —and he, yet further, took away the high places and the Sacred Stems, out of Judah.
7 I sit tredje Regeringsår sendte han sine Øverster Benhajil, Obadja, Zekarja, Netan'el og Mika ud for at undevise i Judas Byer,
And, in the third year of his reign, he sent to his rulers, even to Ben-hail and to Obadiah and to Zechariah, and to Nethanel, and to Micaiah, —that they were to teach throughout the cities of Judah;
8 ledsaget af Leviterne Sjemaja, Netanja, Zebadja, Asa'el, Sjemiramot, Jonatan, Adonija, Tobija og Tob-Adonija, Leviterne, og præsterne Elisjama og Joram.
and, with them, Levites, Shemaiah and Nethaniah and Zebadiah and Asahel and Shemiramoth and Jehonathan, and Adonijah and Tobijah and Tob-adonijah, Levites, —and, with them, Elishama and Jehoram, priests;
9 De havde HERRENs Lovbog med sig og undeviste i Juda, og de drog rundt i alle Judas Byer og underviste Folket.
and they taught throughout Judah, and, with them, was the book of the law of Yahweh, —so they went round throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
10 En HERRENs Rædsel kom over alle Lande og Riger rundt om Juda, så de ikke indlod sig i Krig med Josafat.
And it came to pass, that, the dread of Yahweh, was upon all the kingdoms of the countries, that were round about Judah, —and they warred not against Jehoshaphat.
11 Fra Filisterne kom der Folk, som bragte Josafat Gaver og svarede Sølv i Skat; også Araberne bragte ham Småkvæg, 7700 Vædre og 7700 Bukke.
And, from among the Philistines, were they bringing in unto Jehoshaphat a present, and silver as tribute, —even the Arabians, were bringing in unto him flocks, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.
12 Således gik det stadig fremad for Josafat, så han til sidst fik meget stor Magt; og han byggede Borge og Forrådsbyer i Juda,
And so it came to pass that, Jehoshaphat, went on waxing surpassingly great, —and he built, throughout Judah, fortresses and cities for store;
13 og han havde store Forråd i Judas Byer og Krigsfolk, dygtige Krigere i Jerusalem.
and, much business, had he, throughout the cities of Judah, —but, the men of war, the heroes of valour, were in Jerusalem.
14 Her følger en Fortegnelse over dem efter deres Fædrenehuse. Til Juda hørte følgende Tusindførere: Øversten Adna med 300.000 dygtige Krigere;
And, these, are the numbers of them, by their ancestral house, —To Judah, pertained rulers of thousands, Adnah the chief, and, with him, mighty men of valour, three hundred thousand;
15 ved Siden af ham Øversten Johanan med 280.000 Mand;
and, under his direction, was Jehohanan the chief, —and, with him, two hundred and eighty thousand;
16 ved Siden af ham Amasja, Zikris Søn, der frivilligt gav sig i HERRENs Tjeneste, med 200.000 dygtige Krigere;
and, under his direction, Amasiah son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto Yahweh, —and, with him, two hundred thousand heroes of valour.
17 fra Benjamin var Eljada, en dygtig Koger, med 200.000 Mand, væbnet med Bue og Skjold;
And, out of Benjamin, a hero of valour, Eliada, —and, with him, armed with bow and buckler, two hundred thousand;
18 ved Siden af ham Jozabad med 80.000 vel rustede Mand.
and, under his direction, Jehozabad, —and, with him, a hundred and eighty thousand, equipped for war.
19 Disse stod i Kongens Tjeneste, og dertil kom de, som Kongen havde lagt i de befæstede Byer hele Juda over.
These, were they who were waiting upon the king, —besides those whom the king placed in the fortified cities, throughout all Judah.
