1 Til Sangmesteren. Af HERRENS Tjener David.
For the leader. Of the servant of the Lord, of David. Sin whispers within the heart of the wicked, who have no dread of God before their eyes.
2 Synden taler til den gudløse inde i hans Hjerte; Gudsfrygt har han ikke for Øje;
It flatters them in their eyes that their sin will not be found out.
3 thi den smigrer ham frækt og siger, at ingen skal finde hans Brøde og hade ham.
First, their speech becomes wicked and false, they give up acting wisely and well.
4 Hans Munds Ord er Uret og Svig, han har ophørt at handle klogt og godt;
Then they plot deliberate wrong, take their stand on the wicked way, without the least shrinking from evil.
5 paa sit Leje udtænker han Uret, han træder en Vej, som ikke er god; det onde afskyr han ikke.
Your love, O Lord, touches the heavens, your faithfulness reaches the clouds.
6 HERRE, din Miskundhed rækker til Himlen, din Trofasthed naar til Skyerne,
Your justice is like the great mountains, your judgments are like the broad sea. Lord, you save people and animals.
7 din Retfærd er som Guds Bjerge, dine Domme som det store Dyb; HERRE, du frelser Folk og Fæ,
How precious your love, O God! All may seek shelter in the shadow of your wings.
8 hvor dyrebar er dog din Miskundhed, Gud! Og Menneskebørnene skjuler sig i dine Vingers Skygge;
They feast on the fat of your house, they drink of your brook of delights.
9 de kvæges ved dit Huses Fedme, du læsker dem af din Lifligheds Strøm;
For with you is the fountain of life, in the light that is yours we see light.
10 thi hos dig er Livets Kilde, i dit Lys skuer vi Lys!
O continue your grace to the faithful, your love to the upright in heart.
11 Lad din Miskundhed blive over dem, der kender dig, din Retfærd over de oprigtige af Hjertet.
Let no arrogant foot tread upon me, no wicked hand drive me to exile.
12 Lad Hovmods Fod ej træde mig ned, gudløses Haand ej jage mig bort. Se, Udaadsmændene falder, slaas ned, saa de ikke kan rejse sig.
There the workers of wrong lie prostrate, thrust down to rise up no more.
