1 Hjertets Raad er Menneskets sag. Tungens Svar er fra HERREN.
The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from YHWH.
2 En Mand holder al sin Færd for ren, men HERREN vejer Aander.
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but YHWH weigheth the spirits.
3 Vælt dine Gerninger paa HERREN, saa skal dine Planer lykkes.
Commit thy works unto YHWH, and thy thoughts shall be established.
4 Alt skabte HERREN, hvert til sit, den gudløse ogsaa for Ulykkens Dag.
YHWH hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 Hver hovmodig er HERREN en Gru, visselig slipper han ikke for Straf.
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to YHWH: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
6 Ved Mildhed og Troskab sones Brøde, ved HERRENS Frygt undviger man ondt.
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of YHWH men depart from evil.
7 Naar HERREN har Behag i et Menneskes Veje, gør han endog hans Fjender til Venner.
When a man's ways please YHWH, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8 Bedre er lidet med Retfærd end megen Vinding med Uret.
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
9 Menneskets Hjerte udtænker hans Vej, men HERREN styrer hans Fjed.
A man's heart deviseth his way: but YHWH directeth his steps.
10 Der er Gudsdom paa Kongens Læber, ej fejler hans Mund, naar han dømmer.
A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
11 Ret Bismer og Vægtskaal er HERRENS, hans Værk er alle Posens Lodder.
A just weight and balance are YHWH 's: all the weights of the bag are his work.
12 Gudløs Færd er Konger en Gru, thi ved Retfærd grundfæstes Tronen.
It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
13 Retfærdige Læber har Kongens Yndest, han elsker den, der taler oprigtigt.
Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
14 Kongens Vrede er Dødens Bud, Vismand evner at mildne den.
The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
15 I Kongens Aasyns Lys er der Liv, som Vaarregnens Sky er hans Yndest.
In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
16 At vinde Visdom er bedre end Guld, at vinde Indsigt mere end Sølv.
How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
17 De retsindiges Vej er at vige fra ondt; den vogter sit Liv, som agter paa sin Vej.
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
18 Hovmod gaar forud for Fald, Overmod forud for Snublen.
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Hellere sagtmodig med ydmyge end dele Bytte med stolte.
Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
20 Vel gaar det den, der mærker sig Ordet; lykkelig den, der stoler paa HERREN.
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in YHWH, happy is he.
21 Den vise kaldes forstandig, Læbernes Sødme øger Viden.
The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
22 Kløgt er sin Mand en Livsens Kilde, Daarskab er Daarers Tugt.
Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
23 Den vises Hjerte giver Munden Kløgt, paa Læberne lægger det øget Viden.
The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
24 Hulde Ord er som flydende Honning, søde for Sjælen og sunde for Legemet.
Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
25 Mangen Vej synes Manden ret, og saa er dens Ende dog Dødens Veje.
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
26 En Arbejders Hunger arbejder for ham, thi Mundens Krav driver paa ham.
He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
27 En Nidding graver Ulykkesgrave, det er, som brændte der Ild paa hans Læber.
A worthless man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
28 Rænkefuld Mand sætter Splid; den, der bagtaler, skiller Venner.
A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
29 Voldsmand lokker sin Næste og fører ham en Vej, der ikke er god.
A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
30 Den, der stirrer, har Rænker for; knibes Læberne sammen, har man fuldbyrdet ondt.
He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
31 Graa Haar er en dejlig Krone, den vindes paa Retfærds Vej.
The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
32 Større end Helt er sindig Mand, større at styre sit Sind end at tage en Stad.
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
33 I Brystfolden rystes Loddet, det falder, som HERREN vil.
The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of YHWH.
