1 Mosebog 17
1 Da Abram var ni og halvfemsindstyve Aar gammel, aabenbarede HERREN sig for ham og sagde til ham: »Jeg er Gud den Almægtige; vandre for mit Aasyn og vær ustraffelig,
And when Abram was ninety and nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God: walk before me, and be thou perfect.
2 saa vil jeg oprette min Pagt mellem mig og dig og give dig et overvættes stort Afkom!«
And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and I will multiply thee exceedingly.
3 Da faldt Abram paa sit Ansigt, og Gud sagde til ham:
And Abram fell on his face, and God spoke with him, saying,
4 »Fra min Side er min Pagt med dig, at du skal blive Fader til en Mængde Folk;
As for me, behold my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt become the father of a multitude of nations.
5 derfor skal dit Navn ikke mere være Abram, men du skal hedde Abraham, thi jeg gør dig til Fader til en Mængde Folk.
Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for the father of a multitude of nations have I made thee.
6 Jeg vil gøre dig overvættes frugtbar og lade dig blive til Folk, og Konger skal nedstamme fra dig.
And I will make thee exceedingly fruitful, and I will cause thee to become nations; and kings shall come out of thee.
7 Jeg opretter min Pagt mellem mig og dig og dit Afkom efter dig fra Slægt til Slægt, og det skal være en evig Pagt, at jeg vil være din Gud og efter dig dit Afkoms Gud;
And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and between thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant: to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
8 og jeg giver dig og dit Afkom efter dig din Udlændigheds Land, hele Kana'ans Land, til evigt Eje, og jeg vil være deres Gud!«
And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou sojournest, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
9 Derpaa sagde Gud til Abraham: »Men du paa din Side skal holde min Pagt, du og dit Afkom efter dig fra Slægt til Slægt;
And God said unto Abraham, But thou, for thy part, shalt keep my covenant, thou and thy seed after thee, in their generations.
10 og dette er min Pagt, som I skal holde, Pagten mellem mig og eder, at alt af Mandkøn hos eder skal omskæres.
This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and between you, and between thy seed after thee: Every man-child among you shall be circumcised.
11 I skal omskæres paa eders Forhud, det skal være et Pagtstegn mellem mig og eder;
And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and this shall serve as the token of the covenant between me and you.
12 otte Dage gamle skal alle af Mandkøn omskæres hos eder i alle kommende Slægter, baade de hjemmefødte Trælle og de, som er købt, alle fremmede, som ikke hører til dit Afkom;
And at eight days old shall every man-child in your generations be circumcised among you, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, who is not of thy seed.
13 omskæres skal baade dine hjemmefødte og dine købte. Min Pagt paa eders Legeme skal være en evig Pagt!
He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised; and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
14 Men de uomskaarne, det af Mandkøn, der ikke Ottendedagen omskæres paa Forhuden, de skal udryddes af deres Folk; de har brudt min Pagt!«
And any uncircumcised male, who circumciseth not the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.
15 Endvidere sagde Gud til Abraham: »Din Hustru Saraj skal du ikke mere kalde Saraj, hendes Navn skal være Sara;
And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.
16 jeg vil velsigne hende og give dig en Søn ogsaa ved hende; jeg vil velsigne hende, og hun skal blive til Folk, og Folkeslags Konger skal nedstamme fra hende!«
And I will bless her, and give thee also a son of her; yea I will bless her, and she shall become a mother of nations; kings of people shall spring from her.
17 Da faldt Abraham paa sit Ansigt og lo, idet han tænkte: »Kan en hundredaarig faa Børn, og kan Sara med sine halvfemsindstyve Aar føde en Søn?«
Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed; and he said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear?
18 Abraham sagde derfor til Gud: »Maatte dog Ismael leve for dit Aasyn!«
And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!
19 Men Gud sagde: »Nej, din Ægtehustru Sara skal føde dig en Søn, som du skal kalde Isak; med ham vil jeg oprette min Pagt, og det skal være en evig Pagt, der skal gælde hans Afkom efter ham!
And God said, Truly, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name Isaac; and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, for his seed after him.
20 Men hvad Ismael angaar, har jeg bønhørt dig: jeg vil velsigne ham og gøre ham frugtbar og give ham et overvættes talrigt Afkom; tolv Stammehøvdinger skal han avle, og jeg vil gøre ham til et stort Folk.
And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make of him a great nation.
21 Men min Pagt opretter jeg med Isak, som Sara skal føde dig om et Aar ved denne Tid.«
But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.
22 Saa hørte han op at tale med ham; og Gud steg op fra Abraham.
And when he had left off talking with him, God went up from Abraham.
23 Da tog Abraham sin Søn Ismael og alle sine hjemmefødte og de købte, alt af Mandkøn i Abrahams Hus, og omskar selv samme Dag deres Forhud, saaledes som Gud havde paalagt ham.
And Abraham now took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house; and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on the selfsame day, as God had spoken unto him.
24 Abraham var ni og halvfemsindstyve Aar, da han blev omskaaret paa sin Forhud;
And Abraham was ninety and nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
25 og hans Søn Ismael var tretten Aar, da han blev omskaaret paa sin Forhud.
And Ishmael his son, was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
26 Selv samme Dag blev Abraham og hans Søn Ismael omskaaret;
On the self-same day was Abraham circumcised, with Ishmael his son.
27 og alle Mænd i hans Hus, baade de hjemmefødte og de, der var købt, de fremmede, blev omskaaret tillige med ham.
And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him.
