5 Mosebog 19
1 Naar HERREN din Gud faar udryddet de Folk, hvis Land HERREN din Gud vil give dig, og du faar dem drevet bort og har bosat dig i deres Byer og Huse,
When the Lord thy God shall roote out the nations, whose lande the Lord thy God giueth thee, and thou shalt possesse them, and dwell in their cities, and in their houses,
2 da skal du udtage dig tre Byer midt i dit Land, som HERREN din Gud giver dig i Eje.
Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the middes of thy lande which the Lord thy God giueth thee to possesse it.
3 Du skal sætte Vejen til dem i Stand og dele dit Landomraade, som HERREN din Gud tildeler dig, i tre Dele, for at enhver Manddraber kan ty derhen.
Thou shalt prepare thee the way, and deuide the coastes of the land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee to inherite, into three parts, that euery manslayer may flee thither.
4 Men om de Manddrabere, der har Ret til at ty derhen for at redde Livet, gælder følgende: Naar nogen af Vanvare slaar sin Næste ihjel, uden at han i Forvejen har baaret Nag til ham,
This also is ye cause wherfore the manslayer shall flee thither, and liue: who so killeth his neighbor ignorantly, and hated him not in time passed:
5 naar saaledes en gaar med sin Næste ud i Skoven for at fælde Træer, og hans Haand svinger Øksen for at fælde et Træ, og Jernet farer ud af Skaftet og rammer hans Næste, saa han dør, da maa han ty til en af disse Byer og redde Livet,
As hee that goeth vnto the wood with his neighbor to hew wood, and his hand striketh with the axe to cut downe the tree, if the head slip from the helue, and hit his neighbour that he dieth, the same shall flee vnto one of the cities, and liue,
6 for at ikke Blodhævneren i Ophidselse skal sætte efter Manddraberen og, fordi Vejen er for lang, indhente ham og slaa ham ihjel, skønt han ikke havde fortjent Døden, eftersom han ikke i Forvejen havde baaret Nag til ham.
Least the auenger of the blood follow after the manslayer, while his heart is chafed, and ouertake him, because the way is long, and slaie him, although he be not worthy of death, because he hated him not in time passed.
7 Derfor giver jeg dig dette Bud: Tre Byer skal du udtage dig!
Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt appoint out three cities for thee.
8 Og dersom HERREN din Gud udvider dine Landemærker, som han tilsvor dine Fædre, og giver dig hele det Land, han lovede at give dine Fædre,
And when the Lord thy God enlargeth thy coastes (as he hath sworne vnto thy fathers) and giueth thee all the lande which he promised to giue vnto thy fathers,
9 fordi du omhyggeligt overholder alle disse Bud, som jeg i Dag paalægger dig, idet du elsker HERREN din Gud og vandrer paa hans Veje alle Dage, saa skal du føje endnu tre Byer til disse tre,
(If thou keepe all these commandements to doe them, which I commaund thee this day: to wit, that thou loue the Lord thy God, and walke in his waies for euer) then shalt thou adde three cities moe for thee besides those three,
10 for at der ikke skal udgydes uskyldigt Blod i dit Land, som HERREN din Gud giver dig i Eje, saa du paadrager dig Blodskyld.
That innocent bloude be not shed within thy land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee to inherite, lest bloud be vpon thee.
11 Men naar en Mand, som bærer Nag til sin Næste, lægger sig paa Lur efter ham, overfalder ham og slaar ham ihjel, og han saa flygter til en af disse Byer,
But if a man hate his neighbour, and lay waite for him, and rise against him, and smite any man that he die, and flee vnto any of these cities,
12 skal hans Bys Ældste sende Bud og lade ham hente hjem derfra og overgive ham i Blodhævnerens Haand, og han skal lade sit Liv.
Then the Elders of his citie shall send and set him thence, and deliuer him into the hands of the auenger of the blood, that he may die.
13 Skaan ham ikke, men rens Israel for den uskyldiges Blod, at det maa gaa dig vel.
Thine eye shall not spare him, but thou shalt put away the crie of innocent blood from Israel, that it may goe well with thee.
14 Du maa ikke flytte din Næstes Markskel, som tidligere Slægter har sat, ved den Arvelod, du faar tildelt i det Land, HERREN din Gud vil give dig i Eje.
Thou shalt not remooue thy neighbours marke, which they of olde time haue set in thine inheritance, that thou shalt inherite in the lande, which ye Lord thy God giueth thee to possesse it.
15 En enkelt kan ikke optræde som Vidne mod en Mand, naar det angaar Misgerning eller Synd, hvad Synd det end er, han begaar; kun paa to eller tre Vidners Udsagn kan en Sag afgøres.
One witnes shall not rise against a man for any trespasse, or for any sinne, or for any fault that hee offendeth in, but at the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses shall the matter be stablished.
16 Naar et ondsindet Vidne optræder mod nogen og beskylder ham for Lovbrud,
If a false witnesse rise vp against a man to accuse him of trespasse,
17 skal begge de stridende fremstille sig for HERRENS Aasyn, for de Præster og Dommere, der er til den Tid,
Then both the men which striue together, shall stand before ye Lord, euen before the Priests and the Iudges, which shall be in those daies,
18 og Dommerne skal undersøge Sagen grundigt, og hvis det viser sig, at Vidnet er et falsk Vidne, der har aflagt falsk Vidnesbyrd mod sin Broder,
And the Iudges shall make diligent inquisition: and if the witnesse be found false, and hath giuen false witnes against his brother,
19 saa skal I gøre med ham, som han havde til Hensigt at gøre med sin Broder; du skal udrydde det onde af din Midte.
Then shall yee doe vnto him as hee had thought to doe vnto his brother: so thou shalt take euil away forth of the middes of thee.
20 Naar da de andre hører det, vil de gribes af Frygt og ikke mere øve en saadan Udaad i din Midte.
And the rest shall heare this, and feare, and shall henceforth commit no more any such wickednes among you.
21 Du maa ikke vise Skaansel: Liv for Liv, Øje for Øje, Tand for Tand, Haand for Haand, Fod for Fod!
Therefore thine eye shall have no compassion, but life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foote for foote.
