2 Samuel 8

1 Nogen Tid efter slog David Filisterne og undertvang dem, og David fratog Filisterne Meteg-Ha'amma.

And it came to pass, after this, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, —and David took the bridle of the metropolis, out of the hand of the Philistines.

2 Fremdeles slog han Moabiterne, og han maalte dem med en Snor, idet han lod dem lægge sig ned paa Jorden og afmaalte to Snorlængder, der skulde dræbes, og een, der skulde blive i Live. Saaledes blev Moabiterne Davids skatskyldige Undersaatter.

And he smote Moab, and measured them with the line casting, them down to the ground, and be measured with two lines to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive, —so the Moabites became David’s, as servants, bringing gifts.

3 Ligeledes slog David Rehobs Søn, Kong Hadad'ezer af Zoba, da han var draget ud for at genoprette sit Herredømme ved Floden.

And David smote Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, —when he went to lay his hand on the River Euphrates.

4 David fratog ham 1700 Ryttere og 20 000 Mand Fodfolk og lod alle Stridshestene lamme paa hundrede nær, som han skaanede.

And David captured from him, a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen, —and David destroyed all the chariots, but reserved of them, a hundred chariots.

5 Og da Aramæerne fra Damaskus kom Hadad'ezer af Zoba til Hjælp, slog David 22 000 Mand af Aramæerne.

And, when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, king of Zobah, David smote of the Syrians, twenty-two thousand men.

6 Derpaa indsatte David Fogeder i det damaskenske Aram, og Aramæerne blev Davids skatskyldige Undersaatter. Saaledes, gav HERREN David Sejr, overalt hvor han drog frem.

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus, and the Syrians became David’s, as servants bringing gifts, —and so Yahweh gave victory unto David, whithersoever he went.

7 Og David tog de Guldskjolde, Hadad'ezers Folk havde baaret, og bragte dem til Jerusalem;

And David took the shields of gold which had come to the servants of Hadadezer, —and brought them to Jerusalem;

8 og fra Hadad'ezers Byer Teba og Berotaj bortførte Kong David Kobber i store Mængder.

also, from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, did King David take bronze, exceeding much.

9 Men da Kong To'i af Hamat hørte, at David havde slaaet hele Hadad'ezers Stridsmagt,

And, when Tou king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the forces of Hadadezer,

10 sendte han sin Søn Hadoram til Kong David for at hilse paa ham og lykønske ham til, at han havde kæmpet med Hadad'ezer og slaaet ham — Hadad'ezer havde nemlig ligget i Krig med To'i — og han medbragte Sølv-, Guld— og Kobber-sager.

then Tou sent Hadoram his son unto King David, to ask after his welfare, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and had smitten him, for Hadadezer had had wars with Tou, —and, in his hand, were vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze.

11 Ogsaa dem helligede Kong David HERREN tillige med det Sølv og Guld, han havde helliget af Byttet fra alle de undertvungne Folk,

Them also, did King David hallow unto Yahweh, —with the silver and the gold which he had hallowed from all the nations which he had subdued:

12 Edom, Moab Ammoniterne, Filisterne, Amalek, og af det Bytte, han havde taget fra Rehobs Søn, Kong Hadad'ezer af Zoba.

from Syria, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek, —and from the spoil of Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

13 Og David vandt sig et Navn. Da han vendte tilbage fra Sejren over Aram, slog han Edom i Saltdalen, 18 000 Mand;

And David made a name, when he returned from his smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, —eighteen thousand.

14 derpaa indsatte han Fogeder i Edom; i hele Edom indsatte han Fogeder, og alle Edomiterne blev Davids Undersaatter, Saaledes gav HERREN David Sejr, overalt hvor han drog frem.

And he put, in Edom, garrisons, throughout all Edom, put be garrisons, and so it was that all Edom became servants unto David, —and Yahweh gave victory unto David, whithersoever he went.

15 Og David var Konge over hele Israel, og han øvede Ret og Retfærdighed mod hele sit Folk.

And David reigned over all Israel, —and so it was that David used to execute justice and righteousness for all his people;

16 Joab, Zerujas Søn, var sat over Hæren; Josjafat, Ahiluds Søn, var Kansler;

and, Joab, son of Zeruiah, was over the army, —and, Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, was remembrancer.

17 Zadok, Abitubs Søn, og Ebjatar, Ahimeleks Søn, var Præster; Seraja var Statsskriver;

And, Zadok, son of Ahitub, and Abimelech, son of Abiathar, were priests, —and, Seraiah, was scribe;

18 Benaja, Jojadas Søn, var sat over Kreterne og Pleterne, og Davids Sønner var Præster.

and, Benaiah, son of Jehoiadah, was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites, —and, the sons of David, became, chief rulers.
