Anden Kongebog 11

1 Da Atalja, Ahazjas Moder, fik at vide, at hendes Søn var død, tog hun sig for at udrydde hele den kongelige Slægt.

And when 'Athalyah the mother of Achazyahu saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.

2 Men Kong Jorams Datter Josjeba, Ahazjas Søster, tog Ahazjas Søn Joas og fik ham hemmeligt af Vejen, saa han ikke var imellem Kongesønnerne, der blev dræbt, og hun gemte ham og hans, Amme i Sengekammeret og holdt ham skjult for Atalja, saa han ikke blev dræbt;

But Yehosheba', the daughter of king Joram, the sister of Achazyahu, took Joash the son of Achazyahu, and stole him away from among the king's sons that were slain, him and his nurse into the bed-chamber: and they hid him from 'Athalyah, so that he was not slain.

3 og han var i seks Aar skjult hos Josjeba i HERRENS Hus, medens Atalja herskede i Landet.

And he was with her in the house of the Lord hidden for six years, while 'Athalyah was reigning over the land.

4 Men i det syvende Aar lod Jojada Hundredførerne for Karerne og Livvagten hente ind til sig i HERRENS Hus; og efter at have sluttet Pagt med dem og taget dem i Ed i HERRENS Hus fremstillede han Kongesønnen for dem.

And in the seventh year Yehoyada' sent and fetched the rulers over the hundreds, of the guards and the runners, and brought them to him into the house of the Lord, and made a covenant with them, and made them swear in the house of the Lord, and showed them the king's son.

5 Derpaa bød han dem og sagde: »Saaledes skal I gøre: Den Tredje del af eder, der om Sabbaten rykker ind for at overtage Vagten i Kongens Palads,

And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do: A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keeping watch in the king's house;

6 og de to Afdelinger af eder, som har Vagten i Kongens Palads — den ene Tredjedel ved Surporten, den anden ved Porten bag Livvagten —

And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the runners; so shall ye keep watch at the house, as a defence.

7 og som begge om Sabbaten rykker ud for at overtage Vagten i HERRENS Hus,

And two parts of you all that are relieved on the sabbath, even they shall keep watch in the house of the Lord about the king.

8 I skal alle med Vaaben i Haand slutte Kreds om Kongen, og enhver, der nærmer sig Rækkerne, skal dræbes. Saaledes skal I være om Kongen, naar han gaar ud, og naar han gaar ind!«

And ye shall encompass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he that cometh within the ranges shall be put to death: and be ye with the king when he goeth out and when he cometh in.

9 Hundredførerne gjorde alt hvad Præsten Jojada havde paabudt, idet de tog hver sine Folk, baade dem, der rykkede ud, og dem, der rykkede ind om Sabbaten, og kom til Præsten Jojada.

And the captains over the hundreds did in accordance with all that Yohayada' the priest had commanded: and they took every man his men that came in on the sabbath, with those that were to be relieved on the sabbath, and came to Yehoyada' the priest.

10 Og Præsten gav Hundredførerne Spydene og Skjoldene, som havde tilhørt Kong David og var i HERRENS Hus.

And the priest gave to the captains over the hundred the spears and shields that had belonged to king David, that were in the house of the Lord.

11 Livvagten stillede sig, alle med Vaaben i Haand, fra Templets Syd side til Nordsiden, hen til Alteret og derfra igen hen til Templet, rundt om Kongen.

And the runners stood every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, by the altar and within, round about the king.

12 Saa førte han Kongesønnen ud og satte Kronen og Armspangene paa ham; derefter udraabte de ham til Konge og salvede ham; og de klappede i Hænderne og raabte: »Kongen leve!«

And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and [gave him] the testimony, and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, Long live the king.

13 Da Atalja hørte Larmen af Folket, gik hun hen til Folket i HERRENS Hus,

And when 'Athalyah heard the noise of the runners [and] of the people, she came to the people in the house of the Lord.

14 og der saa hun Kongen staa ved Søjlen, som Skik var, og Øversterne og Trompetblæserne ved Siden af, medens alt Folket fra Landet jublede og blæste i Trompeterne. Da sønderrev Atalja sine Klæder og raabte: »Forræderi, Forræderi!«

And she looked, and, behold, the king stood upon a stand, according to custom, and the princes and the trumpeters were by the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing, and blowing with trumpets: and 'Athalyah then rent her clothes, and cried, Conspiracy! conspiracy!

15 Men Præsten Jojada bød Hundredførerne, Hærens Befalingsmænd: »Før hende uden for Forgaardene og hug enhver ned, der følger hende!« Præsten sagde nemlig: »Hun skal ikke dræbes i HERRENS Hus!«

But Yehoyada' the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the commanders of the army, and said unto them, Lead her forth to within the ranges: and him that followeth her put to death with the sword. For the priest had said, She shall not be slain in the house of the Lord.

16 Saa greb de hende, og da hun ad Hesteindgangen var kommet til Kongens Palads, blev hun dræbt der.

And they made way for her; and she went by the way of the entrance of the horses into the king's house: and she was put to death there.

17 Men Jojada sluttede Pagt mellem HERREN og Folket og Kongen om, at de skulde være HERRENS Folk, ligeledes mellem Kongen og Folket.

And Yehoyada' made a covenant between the Lord and between the king and between the people, that they should be a people unto the Lord; and between the king and between the people.

18 Og alt Folket fra Landet begav sig til Ba'als Hus og nedbrød det; Altrene og Billederne ødelagde de i Bund og Grund, og Ba'als Præst Mattan dræbte de foran Altrene. Derpaa satte Præsten Vagtposter ved HERRENS Hus;

And then came all the people of the land into the house of Ba'al, and pulled it down: his altars and his images they broke in pieces thoroughly, and Mattan the priest of Ba'al they slew before the altars. And the priest appointed superintendents over the house of the Lord.

19 og han tog Hundredførerne, Karerne og Livvagten, desuden alt Folket fra Landet med sig, og de førte Kongen ned fra HERRENS Hus, gik igennem Livvagtens Port til Kongens Palads, og han satte sig paa Kongetronen.

And he took the chiefs over hundreds, and the guards, and the runners, and all the people of the land, and they brought down the king from the house of the Lord, and came by the way of the gate of the runners to the king's house: and he sat on the throne of the kings.

20 Da glædede alt Folket fra Landet sig, og Byen holdt sig rolig. Men Atalja huggede de ned i Kongens Palads.

And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; but 'Athalyah they had slain with the sword at the king's house.

21 Joas var syv Aar gammel, da han blev Konge.

Seven years old was Jehoash when he became king.
