1 Tessalonikerne 5
1 Men om Tid og Time, Brødre! have I ikke nødig, at der skrives til eder;
But of the times and seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you:
2 thi I vide selv grant, at Herrens Dag kommer som en Tyv om Natten.
for ye yourselves know full well, that the day of the Lord cometh like a thief in the night.
3 Naar de sige: „Fred og ingen Fare!‟ da kommer Undergang pludselig over dem ligesom Veerne over den frugtsommelige, og de skulle ingenlunde undfly.
And when they shall say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 Men I, Brødre! I ere ikke i Mørke, saa at Dagen skulde overraske eder som en Tyv.
But ye, my brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should seize you as a thief:
5 Thi I ere alle Lysets Børn og Dagens Børn, vi ere ikke Nattens eller Mørkets Børn.
ye are all children of the light, and of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Saa lader os da ikke sove ligesom de andre, men lader os vaage og være ædrue!
Therefore let us not sleep like others, but let us watch and be sober:
7 Thi de, som sove, sove om Natten, og de, som beruse sig, ere berusede om Natten.
for they, that sleep, sleep in the night; and drunkards are drunk in the night:
8 Men da vi høre Dagen til, saa lader os være ædrue, iførte Troens og Kærlighedens Panser og Frelsens Haab som Hjelm!
but let us, who are of the day, be sober; putting on the breast-plate of faith and love, and for an helmet the hope of salvation.
9 Thi Gud bestemte os ikke til Vrede, men til at vinde Frelse ved vor Herre Jesus Kristus,
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 som døde for os, for at vi, hvad enten vi vaage eller sove, skulle leve sammen med ham.
who died for us, that whether we be awake, or asleep, we may live together with Him.
11 Formaner derfor hverandre og opbygger den ene den anden, ligesom I ogsaa gøre.
Wherefore comfort one another, and edify each other, as indeed ye do.
12 Men vi bede eder, Brødre! at I skønne paa dem, som arbejde iblandt eder og ere eders Forstandere i Herren og paaminde eder.
And we entreat you, brethren, to respect those that labour among you, and preside over you in the Lord, and instruct you;
13 og agte dem højlig i Kærlighed for deres Gernings Skyld. Holder Fred med hverandre!
and to esteem them very highly in love, on account of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
14 Og vi formane eder, Brødre! paaminder de uskikkelige, trøster de modfaldne, tager eder af de skrøbelige, værer langmodige imod alle!
And admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the weak, be of a patient spirit towards all.
15 Ser til, at ingen gengælder nogen ondt med ondt; men stræber altid efter det gode, baade imod hverandre og imod alle.
See that no one render evil for evil to any man; but always pursue that which is good, both to each other and to all men.
16 Værer altid glade,
Be always joyful.
17 beder uafladelig,
Pray continually.
18 takker i alle Forhold; thi dette er Guds Villie med eder i Kristus Jesus.
In every circumstance be thankful; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 Udslukker ikke Aanden,
Quench not the Spirit.
20 ringeagter ikke Profetier,
Slight not prophesyings:
21 prøver alt, beholder det gode!
yet try all things, and hold fast that which is good.
22 Holder eder fra det onde under alle Skikkelser!
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23 Men han selv, Fredens Gud, helliggøre eder ganske og aldeles, og gid eders Aand og Sjæl og Legeme maa bevares helt og holdent, uden Dadel i vor Herres Jesu Kristi Tilkommelse!
And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly: and grant that your whole frame, spirit, soul, and body may be kept blameless to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Trofast er han, som kaldte eder, han skal ogsaa gøre det.
Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it.
25 Brødre! beder for os!
Brethren, pray for us.
26 Hilser alle Brødrene med et helligt Kys!
Salute all the brethren with an holy kiss.
27 Jeg besværger eder ved Herren, at dette Brev maa blive oplæst for alle de hellige Brødre.
I adjure you by the Lord, that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren.
28 Vor Herres Jesu Kristi Naade være med eder!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
