1 Min Søn! dersom du vil tage imod mine Ord og gemme mine Rud hos dig,
My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you,
2 saa at du lader dit Øre give Agt paa Visdommen, bøjer dit Hjerte til Indsigt;
make your ears pay attention to wisdom and incline your heart to understanding.
3 ja, dersom du kalder paa Forstanden, opløfter din Røst efter Indsigt;
If you cry out for understanding and raise your voice for it,
4 dersom du søger efter den som efter Sølv og ransager efter den som efter skjulte Skatte:
if you seek it like you would seek silver and search for understanding as you would seek hidden treasures,
5 Da skal du forstaa Herrens Frygt og finde Guds Kundskab.
then you will understand the fear of Yahweh and you will find the knowledge of God.
6 Thi Herren giver Visdom, af hans Mund er Kundskab og Indsigt.
For Yahweh gives wisdom, from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
7 Han gemmer det varige gode til de oprigtige; han er et Skjold for dem, som vandre fuldkommelig,
He stores up sound wisdom for those who please him, he is a shield for those who walk in integrity,
8 saa han bevogter Rettens Stier og bevarer sine helliges Vej.
he guards the paths of justice and he will preserve the way of those who are faithful to him.
9 Da skal du forstaa Ret og Retfærdighed og Retvished, al god Vej.
Then you will understand righteousness, justice, and equity, and every good path.
10 Thi Visdom skal komme i dit Hjerte og Kundskab være liflig for din Sjæl.
For wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Kløgt skal bevare dig og Indsigt bevogte dig
Discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you.
12 for at fri dig fra Ondskabs Vej, fra en Mand, som taler forvendte Ting;
They will rescue you from the way of evil, from those who speak perverse things,
13 fra dem, som forlade Rettens Stier for at gaa paa Mørkets Veje;
who abandon the right paths and walk in the ways of darkness.
14 dem, som glæde sig ved at gøre ondt og fryde sig i Ondskabs Forvendthed;
They rejoice when they do evil and delight in the perversities of evil.
15 dem, hvis Stier ere krogede, og hvis Veje ere bugtede;
They follow crooked paths, and using deception they hide their tracks.
16 for at fri dig fra en fremmed Kvinde, fra en ubekendt, som gør sine Ord glatte,
Wisdom and discretion will save you from an adulterous woman, from an immoral woman and her flattering words.
17 hende, som har forladt sin Ungdoms Ven, og som har glemt sin Guds Pagt;
She forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.
18 thi hendes Hus bøjer ned imod Døden og hendes Veje til Dødningerne;
For her house leads down to death and her tracks will lead you to those in the grave.
19 alle de, som gaa ind til hende, skulle ikke komme tilbage og ikke naa Livsens Stier; —
All who go in to her will not return again and they will not find the paths of life.
20 paa det du kan vandre paa de godes Vej og holde dig paa de retfærdiges Stier.
So you will walk in the way of good people and follow the paths of righteous people.
21 Thi de retskafne skulle bo i Landet og de oprigtige blive tilovers derudi;
For those doing right will make a home in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it.
22 men de ugudelige skulle udryddes af Landet og de troløse udslettes deraf.
But the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the faithless will be cut off from it.
