1 Det staar til et Menneske, hvad han vil sætte sig for i Hjertet; men Tungens Svar er fra Herren.

2 Alle en Mands Veje ere rene for hans egne Øjne, men Herren er den, som vejer Aanderne.

10 Der er Guddoms Ord paa en Konges Læber, hans Mund maa ikke forsynde sig i Dom.
Inspired judgments are on the lips of the king. He shall not betray his mouth.
11 Ret Vægt og rette Vægtskaaler høre Herren til, alle Vægtlodder i Posen ere hans Værk.
Honest balances and scales are the LORD’s; all the weights in the bag are his work.
12 Ugudeligheds Idræt er en Vederstyggelighed for Konger; thi ved Retfærdighed befæstes Tronen.
It is an abomination for kings to do wrong, for the throne is established by righteousness.
13 Retfærdigheds Læber ere Konger en Velbehagelighed; og den, som taler Oprigtighed, ham elsker han.
Righteous lips are the delight of kings. They value one who speaks the truth.
14 Kongens Vrede er Dødens Bud; men en viis Mand forsoner den.
The king’s wrath is a messenger of death, but a wise man will pacify it.
15 I Kongens Ansigts Lys er Livet, og hans Bevaagenhed er som en Sky med sildig Regn.
In the light of the king’s face is life. His favor is like a cloud of the spring rain.
16 At købe Visdom, hvor meget bedre er det end Guld? og at købe Forstand at foretrække for Sølv?
How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
17 De oprigtiges slagne Vej er at vige fra det onde; hvo der vil bevare sin Sjæl, maa vare paa sin Vej.
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

He who heeds the Word finds prosperity. Whoever trusts in the LORD is blessed.
21 Den, som er viis i Hjertet, skal kaldes forstandig, og Læbernes Sødme forøger Lærdom.
The wise in heart shall be called prudent. Pleasantness of the lips promotes instruction.

A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends.
29 En Voldsmand bedaarer sin Næste og fører ham paa en Vej, som ikke er god.
A man of violence entices his neighbor, and leads him in a way that is not good.
30 Hvo der lukker sine Øjne for at optænke forvendte Ting, og hvo som bider sine Læber sammen, har alt fuldbragt det onde.
One who winks his eyes to plot perversities, one who compresses his lips, is bent on evil.

Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is attained by a life of righteousness.

33 Lodden kastes i Skødet; men den falder, alt som Herren vil.
The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.
