1 Til Friheden har Kristus frigjort os. Saa staar nu fast, og lader eder ikke atter holde under Trældoms Aag!
It is for freedom that Christ set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not again be held under the yoke of slavery.
2 Se, jeg, Paulus, siger eder, at dersom I lade eder omskære, vil Kristus intet gavne eder.
Understand that I, Paul, myself tell you that if you allow yourselves to be circumcised, Christ will avail you nothing.
3 Men jeg vidner atter for hvert Menneske, som lader sig omskære, at han er skyldig at opfylde hele Loven.
I again declare to everyone who receives circumcision, that he binds himself to obey the whole Law.
4 I ere tabte for Kristus, I, som retfærdiggøres ved Loven; I ere faldne ud af Naaden.
You have severed yourselves from Christ – you who are seeking to be pronounced righteous through Law; you have fallen away from love.
5 Vi vente jo ved Aanden af Tro Retfærdigheds Haab.
For we, by the help of the Spirit, are eagerly waiting for the fulfillment of our hope – that we may be pronounced righteous as the result of faith.
6 Thi i Kristus Jesus gælder hverken Omskærelse eller Forhud noget, men Tro, som er virksom ved Kærlighed.
If we are in union with Christ Jesus, neither is circumcision nor the omission of it anything, but faith, working through love, is everything.
7 I vare godt paa Vej; hvem har hindret eder i at adlyde Sandhed?
You were once making good progress! Who has hindered you from obeying the truth?
8 Den Overtalelse kom ikke fra ham, som kaldte eder.
The persuasion brought to bear on you does not come from him who calls you.
9 En liden Surdej g syrer hele Dejgen.
A little yeast leavens all the dough.
10 Jeg har den Tillid til eder i Herren, at I ikke ville mene noget andet; men den, som forvirrer eder, skal bære sin Dom, hvem han end er.
I, through my union with the Lord, am persuaded that you will learn to think with me. But the man who is disturbing your minds will have to bear his punishment, whoever he may be.
11 Men jeg, Brødre! dersom jeg endnu prædiker Omskærelse, hvorfor forfølges jeg da endnu? Saa er jo Korsets Forargelse gjort til intet.
If I, friends, am still proclaiming circumcision, why am I still persecuted? It seems that the cross has ceased to be an obstacle!
12 Gid de endog maatte lemlæste sig selv, de, som forstyrre eder!
I could even wish that the people who are unsettling you would go further still and mutilate themselves.
13 I bleve jo kaldede til Frihed, Brødre! kun at I ikke bruge Friheden til en Anledning for Kødet, men værer ved Kærligheden hverandres Tjenere!
Remember, friends, to you the call came to give you freedom. Only, do not make your freedom an opportunity for self-indulgence but serve one another in a loving spirit.
14 Thi hele Loven er opfyldt i eet Ord, i det: „Du skal elske din Næste som dig selv.”
Indeed, the whole Law has been summed up in this one precept – ‘You must love your neighbor as you love yourself.’
15 Men naar I bide og æde hverandre, da ser til, at I ikke fortæres af hverandre!
But, if you are continually wounding and preying on one another, take care that you are not destroyed by one another.
16 Men jeg siger: Vandrer efter Aanden, saa fuldbyrde I ingenlunde Kødets Begæring.
This is what I have to say – Let your steps be guided by the Spirit, and then you will never gratify the cravings of your earthly nature.
17 Thi Kødet begærer imod Aanden, og Aanden imod Kødet; disse staa nemlig hinanden imod, for at I ikke skulle gøre, hvad I have Lyst til.
For these cravings of our earthly nature conflict with the Spirit, and the Spirit with our earthly nature – they are two contrary principles – so that you cannot do what you wish.
18 Men naar I drives af Aanden, ere I ikke under Loven.
But, if you follow the guidance of the Spirit, you are not subject to Law.
19 Men Kødets Gerninger ere aabenbare, saasom: Utugt, Urenhed, Uterlighed,
The sins of our earthly nature are unmistakable. They are sins like these – sexual immorality, impurity, indecency,
20 Afgudsdyrkelse, Trolddom, Fjendskaber, Kiv, Nid, Hidsighed, Rænker, Tvedragt, Partier,
idolatry, sorcery, quarrels, strife, jealousy, outbursts of passion, rivalries, dissensions, divisions,
21 Avind, Drukkenskab, Svir og deslige; hvorom jeg forud siger eder, ligesom jeg ogsaa før har sagt, at de, som øve saadanne Ting, skulle ikke arve Guds Rige.
feelings of envy, drunkenness, revelry, and the like. And I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who indulge in such things will have no place in the kingdom of God.
22 Men Aandens Frugt er Kærlighed, Glæde, Fred, Langmodighed, Mildhed, Godhed, Trofasthed,
But the fruit produced by the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindliness, generosity, trustfulness, gentleness, self-control.
23 Sagtmodighed, Afholdenhed. Imod saadanne er Loven ikke,
Against such things there is no law!
24 men de, som høre Kristus Jesus til, have korsfæstet Kødet med dets Lidenskaber og Begæringer.
And those who belong to Jesus, the Christ, have already crucified their earthly nature, with its passions and its cravings.
25 Naar vi leve ved Aanden, da lader os ogsaa vandre efter Aanden!
Since our life is due to the Spirit, let us rule our conduct also by the Spirit.
26 Lader os ikke have Lyst til tom Ære, saa at vi udæske hverandre og bære Avind imod hverandre.
Do not let us grow vain, and provoke or envy one another.
